Rogue build help?

snypes2888snypes2888 Member Posts: 34 Arc User
I'm trying to get my TR build perfect. Still new to the game only been playing about 6 weeks. I love the tr and rogues in general but it's way too under whelming. Please help me with a build and rotations I like the execution builds but not married to it.

This is close to what my TR uses and she does fine now. Use Oppressive darkness and advantageous position for (in my opinion) the most damage. http://nwcalc.com/index.html#/tr?b=2xgc:xzxe17:9mbg:9g4pg,13i9iij:1000000:1z00000:1uu5zu1&h=0&p=wkn&o=0

Depends what you want, pve or pvp, and yes its hard in beggining and its hard to compete with SW and GWF in pure dps.
    Here is my build: http://nwcalc.com/index.html#/tr?b=2xgm:yufk6p:a5u8:a11gc,13j3iei:1000000:1z05000:1uu0uuv&h=0&p=min&o=0

I am pure PVE. My Daily skills are Lurkers Assault and Whirlwind of Blades.
My Encounters are Smoke Bomb, Dazing Strike and Lashing Blade(replaced by Blade Flurry in places with many trash).
My At-Wills are Duelists Flurry and Cloud of Steel.
My Class Features are Skillfull Infiltrator and Invisible Inflitrator.

    Focus on Power and Crit.

My rotation for bosses is: Duelists Flurry(DF) > activate Stealth just before DF ends and hit Dazing Strike > Smoke Bomb > Lurkers Assault > Stealth > Lashing Blade > DF > Stealth > Dazing strike > DF > ...

Trash rotation is: Smoke Bomb > Stealth > Whirlwind of Blades(WOB) > Dazing Strike > Blade Flurry...

Summoned companion with r12 bondings makes huge difference so i got that before i reached 3k item lvl.
If you dont have bondings use Ioun stone instead summoned companions.
Active companions for me are Fire Archon(summoned), Air archon, Siege Master, Erinyes and Dancing Blade. I am gonna try 3 companions with Combat Advantage bonus as well instead Blade, Siege master and Erinyes.

I am pretty satisfied with my build so far. If you need a PVP build tho i cant help you there :p

Funny @blur we were using more or less the same build.

But give wicked reminder a try against bosses as encounter, even if it the tooltip shows a smaller number in dps against DS and LB, but the debuff for the whole group makes it worth i think, and you could increase the dps of your following attacks.

Also on trashmobs personally i start with a stealthed Whirlwind (best in combination with AA from an AC/DC) -> restealth -> dazing (Sod procc, so aim for an add that is not oneshot, depends on the gear) -> smoke -> BF.
With the buff from the DC the raw power can increase up to a few 100k (depends on the gear from the TR and the DC) so all encounters benefits from that, so even the hallways in CN could be cleared in just a few seconds.

    To the Op:

You should always think about: everything that is stunned, dazed could not hurt you ,so for normal adds a stealthed dazing strike, smoke bomb should help you for better surviving, and even if it not that neccessary dodge one more if you think you should.
Duellist Flurry could give you immunity, but if you are not sure about it...dodge one more^^.

To blade Flurry as third encounter..yes it is a little bit tricky at the beginning, having a cooldown in a situation you will need it, or something like that.
But if you you do the combo daze (stealthed, sod proccing), smoke, blade flurry, you should always spamming bf until the cooldown starts, even if is not necessary bc all adds are dead.
So the cooldown from smoke and bf is more or less the same (1 second delay).

And forget path of blades..its useless, it gains aggro, it doesn't procc sod and i can't count anymore how often other TRs f***** up skirmishes like Throne bc of PotB.

To PvP: same as blur :)

Thanks guys I'm going to try out your builds? Is lifesteal worth spacing high or should I just keep my 7%. I have the criteria heals on my mount. And I'm a critical monster. I'm trying to get some good rings. Trying to get bonding r10. Cuz all I can afford.. what should be using for armor and weapons enchantment. I'm rocking perfect vorpal and greater negation. But I'm thinking shadowclad may be better

I only PvE my TR. But I only really run edemo and dragons. I'm only a 2700il so it's hard to get groups I get get kicked just for being a TR. I'm running DS SB LB for encounters cloud and flurry at will. If I'm buffed I'm doing OK but top 5 out of 10 but if you think about it it's not that good. 2gf 2dc. So I only beat 1 DPS. I'm just not impressed with rogues in NW.

I know Wicked Reminder is nice and good but i am just too lazy to switch it out :p i barely force myself to change LB for BF only in CN :)

Lifesteal is nice but it doesnt improve your dps and its expensive to focus on defense slots too, except you have Lifesteal from Guild Boon. Same for Armor Enchant, i am using just Lesser Soulforged. Vorpal for weapon anytime.

I run mostly Ndemo since i dont need twisted ichor anymore, ELOL, POM and ESOT, rarely CN. I had same phase like you, but it gets better when u gear up a bit, r7 or r8 offense enchants are fine on character, focus on Bondings and Companions Offense Enchants. :pensive:
Also dont be surprised if you lose to some ppl in dps, game is far from balanced and many things are not working as intended and from my personal experience CN is a place with no love for TR's lol, i lose in there to every SW i have run with, no matter the IL xD

I would say solid build, but more or less meta is actually mi exe with black alley tactics from scoundrel path, with different variants.
A guildmate from me made his own build using not only BAT he also skilled "Press the advantage" from scoundrel, which fits with his aggressive playstyle.

I can show you his build and even if you can't understand german, feats are shown, and as always test builds first on the preview server if it fits for you, or take it as advice to build your own:

Focus power and lifesteal if you want to go solo.

Focus power and critical if you want to be supported by healers

@demonmonger, forgive me if this is a dumb question, but wouldn't Armor Penetration be more effective than Critical, since you get 100% crit in stealth? Also what about the defensive slots? I've also been focusing on movement for utility. I'm running a MI EXE straight PVE. Sorry if these are dumb questions, I'm just now hitting level 70 on PS4, so I'm pretty "green".

I too thought armor pen would be better than critical.

I stacked 14000 armor pen about 120% worth, and I noticed that players with 40% worth armor pen and about 14000 critual were doing triple my damage in pve.

There is a fine balance between the two.

I still enjoy my build but it could have been so much better

If you are pure PVE u can completely ignore Def and Utility slots to focus only on Offense but Dragonhoards are nice untill u max refine all gear u need.
Also with new Fangbreaker dungeon, coming soon to PC, def slots might help u survive but its hardest content so far and requires 3.1l IL so i guess u should not worry about it yet.
And yes, we have 100% crit in Stealth but most dmg comes from Duelists Flurry so u need to have decent crit % outside stealth as well.

Awesome info guys, thanks @demonmonger and @blur. @blur, I know you said to ignore utility slots, but I do have movement in them already. Is there cap on that like there is for crits and ArP, like 50-60%? If so, I could just replace with exp gain, right?

I use mobility in my utility slots as well works like a charm... allows you to escape basic attack and dodge red zones easier when speed is high enough.. I have not seen a cap on mobility (currently at 14000 mobility)

Fun part is when you move fast as mounts

So how screwed am i for picking a Drow TR? :/

    zero^^

Because of the debuff (Darkfire?) ability, the Drow race is (for me) one of the best Choice for an PvE Tr.
Sure Half Orc could be better in (personal) dps, crit sev and so on.
Sure Halfling could be better for Pvp Tr (not sure bc i refuse to play PvP).

I am playing an Half Elve Pve Tr since open beta, yes not the best choice (maybe the more defensive variant from Half Orc), but with proper gear and knowledge of the class, race choices are not that important anymore.
So i would never ever reroll her in another Race, but my only choice would be a....Drow, bc personally i am more a fan of buff/debuf synergy in an party instead of personal dps.

    Power+Armor Penetration
    Or
    Power+Critical Strike
    Or
    Armor Pen+Critical Strike

I just reach lvl 70 today.. item lvl 1720
    Sorry my nubby question..

Well, the reality is you're going to be tweaking your build for a long, long time. As you level up your artifacts and/or get new ones, change out mount bonuses, get guild boosts, or improve your companion bonding stones, you're going to find that you may end up with too much or too little of certain stats.

IMO, aim for 60% resistance ignored (RI) in armour penetration, about 10-14+k crit (50%+ crit chance), and as much power as you can get. Power you never stop stacking, really.

There are a few alternate setups, but this generally works very well for PvE.

    Thanks aaramis75

Now my power 8000, critical Strike 3900, Armor Pen 2000

No Epics in my gear yet.. :/

    Ideas for Epics Gears fast?
  • aaramis75aaramis75 Member Posts: 348 Arc User
Couple of options for epics. You can use the ones you're awarded for finishing the Elemental Evil storyline + hitting 70 (Elemental Fire epics).

OR you can skip ahead right to the newer elemental epic weapons by speaking to the archdruid in Protector's Enclave - most people will go for the Burning (Fire) or Drowned (Water) weapons in particular.

Then, once you get to a higher item level, you can start eyeing up Twisted weapons by farming epic Demogorgon.

The Drowned weapons are generally viewed as the best PvP weapons; and either the Drowned or Twisted for PvE. (Twisted is better dps; Drowned is better survivability).

Elven gear is easy to get, Drowcraft is next in line, Dusk if u have tradebars, Dragonflight gear is hardest to get but doesnt mean its best to have 4 pieces. I use 2 dusk parts, 1 drowcraft, 1 dragonflight.
