Tank companion

Just curious as to what other tanks use as their main companions - I understand that having the maximum amount of companions adds a number of small stats but what would be your main companion?

Would it be the allure so all stats are applied to your character? Would it be a healer for extra heals and possibly less stress on group healer? Possibly a tank companion to help with tanking ... Not sure I see the benefit of a controller but maybe I'm missiing something.

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks :))

i personally like strikers as i have enough survive-ability on my own and just need the extra burn to speed things up

The general advice seems to be to leverage Companion's Gift using a companion with a full on defensive slot setup. I've found best results with a Portal Hound, but haven't tried them all. It's slow progress levelling those bonding runestones up (and upgrading the quality of the companion), but well worth it.

Ackter's post on MMOminds has a great piece on it under the 'companions' section

At level 70 you get 5 active companions. Three of the five should provide you stats for your class, even if you never use the companion. Next is the summoned companions. One should be for group content and provide some type of stat or group benefit. The final companion is one you use when soloing content. These two companions should reach legendary level.

As a DC I like strikers do to lower damage I produce. As for stats I am looking at Strike Pen and Recovery.

For any power if you need recovery that is one all classes would benefit from having. Tanks also need Regen, Deflect, Life Steal, Health and Defense.

A pet that provides control resistance increase may also help out.

For what it's worth, I'm liking my shield maiden. She tanks on one side and I tank on the other for combat advantage. I need those enchantments with Companion's Gift. I do want that portal hound though! :)

Shadow demon as an active companion on my pally tank. Deflection mechanic negating some hits and causing 4k damage back to the attacker every 20 to 30 seconds. Slotting bonding runestones transfers stats to me when it uses a skill. Plus he hits for 30 to 90k damage every 30 sec giving me some faster kill times.

    Other companions slotted:
rust monster (damage debuff to attackers)
Dread warrior (enrage on dmg taken causing more threat generation )
    Smith (damage reflection)
    Eriness (5% crit severity)

shieldmaiden looks better than the hound tbh. I just haven't been lucky enough to come by one (or had it high enough up my priority list to work for it!).

My active list is galeb duhr, (dmg buff scaled off dmg taken), dread warrior, rust monster, and blacksmith

I just found the downside of shield maiden: 50,000 AD to upgrade her past level 20. There's also some other currency you can spend to do it, but I can't tell what it is. Glad it's double AD time!

It goes like this to upgrade companions..

    20-25: 50K AD
    25-30: 250K AD
    30-35: 750K AD
    35-40: 1M AD

AD is a very important currency in this game.

The other currency is companion tokens. Earned from the companion packs from the current lock box.

I seen references to "lock box" before. Is this slang for a particular product in the Zen store?

Lockbox are the items that drop that requires keys to open. VIP access grants you one key a day or you can buy them in the zen market.
