Dread V Vorpal

rottersrotters Member Posts: 214 Arc User
I seem to do more dps using a perfect vorpal compared to trans dread (the theory suggests it should be the other way around).

I like most SW's spam TT, I can get random crits for multiple millions from TT but using my Dread I get no such thing because it only works on encounters.

Am I playing my dread wrong? or are others hitting a lot harder with their vorpal too?

I hit like a truck with Dread and I'm using it even in PvP (well, it's a little risky as you won't have Fey's debuff to enemy).

On paper SW does 70-85% damage with encounters in PvE so Dread should perform a lot better than Vorpal. From another topic:

You should test first how much damage percentage is dealt by your encounters from total damage dealt. You should see that overall damage from it might come to 70-85% (keep in mind TT, CD and other fury feats like executioner etc.). Also, keep in mind Dread debuffs.

Let's take a look on this example (eToS last boss): https://i.gyazo.com/95ace62e0ab3e25fb94eea2744a00b55.png

    Soul Scorch: 30% overall damage
    Killing Flames: 8% overall damage
    BoVA: 5% overall damage
Murderous Flames: 18% overall damage *

    Total:
    61% overall damage

So now I can also assume, that 61% damage from Tyranical Threat, Creeping Death, Executioner's Gift and Critical Damage is done from encounters (well, it's simplified but good enough for fast calc):

    (Damage Type: overall_damage% * encounters% = overall encounter influence%)
    Tyranical Threat: 19% * 61% = 11%
    Creeping Death: 14% * 61% = 8% **
    Executioner's Gift: 5% * 61% = 3% **

    Total: 61% + 11% + 8% + 3% = 83%

    * Murderous Flames aren't encounter but they depends only on Killing Flames so I put it there
** I know I'd have to make it more accurate by dividing necrotic damage type but for fast calculation - it's good enough

On the other hand - on this ACT Essence Defiler is only 2% in total damage :P

    Mod 10:
[Combat (Self)] Critical Hit! Your Killing Flames deals 16636893 (1009292) Fire Damage to Ethraniev Marrowslake.

    Mod 9:
[Combat (Self)] Your Murderous Flames deals 376274433 (18876929) Fire Damage to Red Tiamat Head.

I been running ACT logs with both and I sold my Dread enchant based on the fact that as someone mentioned before hand, you get crit bonuses of At wills, Dailies and Encounters with the Vorpal. While you do see bigger numbers with the Dread enchant, overall damage is more with Vorpal in PvE ( I have not tested this in PvP, as of yet and probably won't).

Plus on a note, with the Owl bear proccing off "non" crit and the constant power boosts of Bonding, you are better off going that route than the "crit build" for the Dread enchant, unless you are trying it for PvP, which I would not recommend, due to how the crit severity resistance work with tenacity (You will need high crit chance and crit severity to overcome this).

I have a lot of crit severity companions also which help out a lot, Sword (5%), Enriyes (10%) and Cambion (10%) on top of the 25% from feats, Dread enchant is 75% crit severity, your looking at 125% crit severity whereas with the Vorpal it's 100% crit severity on top of your base.

I may not be considered by most the BEST PVP Warlock on the server but, I am the most HATED amongst them.

Really? Can I ask what build you run? My results I think they are basically the same. My numbers haven't changed much at all. Nothing of any notice. I run SB fury.
