Questions from a new player (VIP & Loot)

lmpmaflmpmaf Member Posts: 12 Arc User
Hello,

I am new to the game, have only been playing a few weeks but have a couple questions based off some of what I have read.

My first question is regarding VIP, while I understand the benefits and what you get from it, is it ONLY worth it if you play every day/nearly every day? I am only able to log in to the game on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. Would I only receive 2 keys a week instead of the 7 since I did not log in daily or am I able to collect every day’s reward all at once?

My second question is regarding excessive loot. I understand this game is clearly a loot piñata as I can kill a group of guys and get 2-5 items from them (normally green/treasure/scrolls), but I have gotten to the point where I don’t even pick up loot anymore unless it’s of blue quality or better (including refinements) because I cannot keep the bag space available. You seem to get so little bank space to start and everything costs zen to add more space/buy bags. I understand that you can trade AD for Zen and vice versa but how does everyone else deal with the excessive loot in this game? Am I the only person not picking things up?

More about my character, I am currently level 59, not part of a guild (with zero interest in joining one), and really just enjoy the RPG elements of leveling. Once I reach 70, I intend to move on to a second character and so on till I get a few 70’s then decide which one I want to pursue further. I have spent a little bit of money so far to buy a couple bags, few keys and a cheap mount (I was unaware I would get one for free at some point). At this point I have zero intent of spending any additional money on the game except maybe VIP which I will only do if I can still see the benefits of it with my limited playtime.

    1) The highest value for VIP(12) from me comes from the teleport any time & shared bank any time. You wont get as many keys as you MUST login every day AND claim them, so you loss a fair bit of value but its still valuable. (Though making 2m to login and grab a key may be worth it.) Oh + Free mailbox any time turns it into a bank slot.

    2) Personal pref, I only pickup blues+ myself and some crafting greens. Many people will even kick you from the party if you keep looting greens in combat. AD=ZEN at least as long as people keep selling Zen. (You couldn't buy it on the PC for a longest time since ad had near 0 value) Until then you can switch them freely at whatever the current rate is. For me, I picked up a couple bags when they where on sale as they make life MUCH easier and well worth the investments. I recommend going straight to Runic as theirs no reason to get less long term. You can buy multiple small bags cheap, but eventual you want to upgrade and lose the funds as most bags are bound on use now.

    3) You don't have to spend ANY money for anything... it just speeds things up. Character slots are the best bang for the buck, followed by a 110% mount (account wide unlock.) Beyond that really up to you. Remember you CAN buy VIP at a discount, be it a 15% off coupon or 50% off blackfriday sale. So plan ahead and save up if you want significant savings.

Right, do you not have two minutes a day just to quickly log on to Neverwinter? You don't have to play any missions just quickly grab the Lockbox Key & also ID Scrolls & Epic Dungeon Keys. If not then VIP will be a waste but if you can find those couple of minutes its well worth it. Plus if online you can Invoke at least once & be grabbing free XP, AD, Ardent & Celestial Coins.

As for loot personally I grab everything I can & either sell it or refine into powering up weapons. Build up enough AD & you can buy bags through the auction house. It takes time but extra bag space is always needed in any MMO. (If you get VIP you might be getting stuff from the lockboxes you don't need & can sell for extra AD). Have you got the extra two bags available via completing missions in Blacklake District & Neverdeath Graveyard.

The Guilds, I was like you. But several are great & most allow you to play as you choose & only join in if you want. If nothing else the Guild gives you extra missions for stuff you're likely already doing so essentially free XP.

Most people have extra characters, I started off with a Great Weapon Fighter but after getting him to 70 started with a Scourge Warlock, many people slag them off but my favourite & main character now. Really just about playing a few different characters & seeing what works for you.

Have you seen the packs you can buy? A lot of them give you stuff like mounts, artifacts & bags which are account wide so available to every character plus gives you a free character unlock.

Thank you both for your replies, they were very helpful. At this point, I may hold off on VIP and wait till I find a coupon or there is a discount in price. While it's only 2 minutes a day, that is not something I could reliably do on a daily basis. I think the most I could do would be like 4 days a week right now. Anyway, thanks again.

I have a question now regarding the 110% mount you reference. You stated that if I buy that, it's unlocked account wide. I did get a 80% mount for cheap as I had a coupon and that does not appear to be account wide. Are the 110% speed mounts the only ones that are account wide? Right now my lvl 64 HR has an 80% mount and my GF is using the mount awarded by the maze engine pack. If I were to purchase the 110% mount, they would both get it? I just want to make sure I read that correctly.

Any mount you buy from the "ZEN MARKET" is an account-wide unlock. You have to claim the mount for each character at the claims agent

Thanks Blizz, yes the Zen market ones are account wide. All others are character bound on use. The Zen market is a great starting place as all your alts will be able to claim it at level 4 and move at a decent rate. Then once you settle on 1 or 2 characters long term you can buy "better" mounts for those characters. Eventually you will want every character you actively play to have 4-5 mounts so you can get the insignia bonus from them. So those account wide ones always have value even if you buy a "better" one for active bonus on your favorite characters.

Speaking of which with the maze engine 50% off coupon its a good time to buy "filler" mounts. Some of them are as low as 250 zen with the coupon and give useful buffs.
