Mod 9 for hunter? Vorpal or dread?

tattaren1#1747 tattaren1 Member Posts: 4 Arc User
Hello im a 3,1k hunter and I still play with the mod 6 or 7 build I think, is there any new build or is mod 8 the latest? Which build do u think I should use? Right now I have theese encounters ( hindering, contrict arrow and fox cunning). Another question that I thought about is that the price off vorpal is really low atm and thats probably because many people like the dread enchant instead, but what should I go for ?

Dread is BIS but expensive especially right now.

I'd go with a vorpal for now. Also your encounters are fine you can always swap Cordon for Fox though if you want to do more damage.

Not really unknown at the moment when PC players have already had the dread enchantment for longer and access to ACT. Either way in 9 cases out of 10 dread will perform better than Vorpal when the dread gives the 75% boost.

I disagree, here's why your dailes, and at wills don't get that 75%. Which if you are a good HR you should be clipping careful attack and hunters teamwork. Plus there's nothing like blasting SS with 50% more sev which you will certainly loose it you go dread. The debuff is nice as well but it will make you deal less dmg because less uptime. Depends on what you want.

Oh and another thing...of course the devs are going to label it as best answer because they want you to spend your money getting it! Lmao

Keep in mind that HR is a versatile class that can have many builds and many styles of play in both group and solo settings... You can't just say dread is best without framing what and how u plan on using it...

Keep in mind that pc has act, but most of their builds are not pure dps...not sure why but I laugh every time I see someone recommend storm warden yet you'll see a ton of pc ppl use it...like they don't know about ca... Or maybe they've moved on to pvp vs pve...dunno... I saw someone recommending thorn ward and rain of arrows for christs sake...

CA is not WAI so not switching because of a bug is ehhh to me. On top of that in normal groups of 5 it's not really THAT noticeable. Of course in raids like EDemo and Tiamat the bugged CA with Vorpal will do dumb damage.

And in smaller groups while going through dungeons I don't clip mobs with CA it messes with melee AotS stacks. Yeah the loss of damage from SS sucks but now all my encounters and roots are doing more damage which everything is rooted. Which is why I prefer Dread.

Hard to say is ca is not wai, it's been like that since day 1...another way to look at it is...it's wai but the tooltip is incorrect and needs to be updated.

Ive tried to switch out fox cunning for Cordon, but the coldowns are so slow and I think I have to change some of my feats to get my crit severity up before playing with Cordon. So far ive done more damage then most of the hunters who is the same Item lvl as me (3,1k). And they use cordon, I might get my I lvl higher before switching feats and encounters. But what are your opinion on companions? Which ones are u using?

Cordon/Plant Growth is over-rated, I personally actually never equip it :)

Yeah, anything that accounts for 30% of your dps is overrated...as act has shown...

We do not have ACT on the xbox and just because Cordon is 30% of 1 players damage it does not mean it would be 30% for someone else.

Honestly dude there are so many choices for a HR that just saying Cordon would be 30% of your damage regardless of what you do is a bit narrow minded :)

I'm putting together in the coming days to address all these points...but cordon is just flat out best encounter for dps, no other encounter routinely hits for over 100k on both melee and ranged...is it the best encounter? Wait and read what I'll post in a day or two

It is not the best Encounter... If you say it is the best Encounter for you then yes that is fine. It is not going to be the best Encounter for everyone. "Best" is very subjective, it could be the most damaging Encounter but certainly not best.

For me it is way down the list of best Encounters, I couldn`t care less if it hits for 100k every now and then... By the time a HR has fired off a Cordon of Arrows I`m already half way through my next rotation.

For me the build up to CoA is too long, I do not like the cast time. Also Plant Growth is fairly decent though, but the roots are extremely short and break almost instantly.

I run alongside a lot of HR that use CoA and the last time I was beaten on DPS by them was months ago when I ran with Taco... He was 1k Item Level above me though and even then he did not beat me on DPS on every run.

I simply said it was the best DPS encounter, no subjectivity on that...I find that trash mob encounters are over after the first shot about 90% of the time now...

you can speed up the animation if you time it right, plus if you use it as a trap, it's just as effective and saves you time once things spawn/move...

Yeah I tried running with it again yesterday... it hits very bug numbers but I just don't like the way it interrupts my flow and it makes me feel more sluggish :)

My bad @rhadamathys I completely missed the part where you said "best for dps" so I apologise for getting muddled up there :)

Still it hits high numbers but I prefer the consistency of Hindering Shot/Hindering Strike. Also when using Gushing Wound it re-fills my 3 Hindering Shots very quickly... But Gushing Wound for some reason does not re-fill my 3 CoA charges... I`m going to test this a little more though as I was half asleep last night and woke up kicked from a dungeon (I really must have nodded off and gone AFK lol) and dead.

What lvls are u and how high is your crit, power and crit severity? Mine is 3315 with 16,5k power and 11,3k crit

I`m not online until later to look at stats... of the top of my head though my Item level is the same as yours. I have more Power though at 20k and less Crit 9.9k. Anything over 50% Crit (before Gift procs and Rising Precision procs etc) I find is a bit over kill.

I like to have an Owlbear cub as one of my Active's so I do not actually want my Steel Breeze (3rd Melee Encounter) and Hindering Shots (3rd Ranged Encounter) to Crit :)

Wow so that last 1000 Item level you guys have on me looks like heck of a lot of stats. I still have a few things to work on... only have Lv 50 Purple Weapons (Twisted and Water sets) and a Purple Lv50 Lostmauth Neckalce, Belt is Legendary though, I also only have Rank 8-10 Runes so far.

I do have 5 Mythic Artefacts though, almost 6. I also have secondary sets levelled up to 50 (Water Weapons and Seldarin Set).

Yeah, seems you too have a lot of irons in the fire.

I nailed down Legendary for my equipment, have six Mithics and Legendary arty. Started work on my Lostmauth (rare) set. I have broken the r12 enchant barrier and still have many to level up for this character and for my DC.

    Slowly but surely getting there...

Building my refinement stacks for my Dread and Negation is my priority.

Don't forget reinforcements...200 points to a stat for 100k? No brainier imo...people pay like 500k for a rank 10 which offers 330 points...for the cost of 1 rank 10 u can get 800 cs... Or put another way...a rank 12 gives you 700 points...they go for 1.5m...4 cs kits go for 500k (components in addition to ad)...and give you 800 points...

I have been using a dread for many weeks now as a SW, and I still say Vorpal is better for PF. You all think CA is bad you haven't seen nothing yet.
