2.7 HR with quiet a few questions

kohndrekohndre Member Posts: 17 Arc User
Hey guys. As the title says 2.7k HR. I have quiet a few questions, that I've been wanting to ask for months, and now I'm here. I'll give you a quick over all. Currently 11k Power 9k Crit 7k Arm pen. I have a legendary Merc companion, with 1 Rank 11, and 2 rank 10 bonds. I noticed I get very comfortable playing my character, and haven't done a ton to improve myself. Only recently did I swap my green aug over for this merc, and went balls to the wall getting it up.

First question. Brutals or Azures in Offense? I currently have brutals. Next rotation questions. I currently use Constricting, Hindering, and Fox. I just swapped Plant over for Fox, and I love the extra dps. Only problem, the rotation feels clunky for me. It is new to me and all. I find myself having to at wills, waiting for cool downs. Is there a specific rotation I should be doing, to maximize dps? For At Wills, Hunter's team work and why? Also, I don't quiet understand how the stacks work, for AOTS for example. If I need to fire a few at wills off, and exactly how it all builds up. A little background. I had a perfect Vorpal. I felt that I wasn't getting much use out of it, dude to my crit being too low to reap the benefits. I swapped over to a plague fire, and I feel like I do way more damage. What is a good amount of crit to have, that it would be worth going back to a vorpal? 1 more thing. I struggle in epic demo, with bleeds like crazy. Even with All drow pieces. My stamina seems to be my weak point. I recently got the stamina boon. My gear has darks for movement, and I have the extra stamina on my offhand power. Thanks for reading.

Did a lot of research last night. Switched my build up. So far amazing. I'll keep learning through trial and error. Much more rewarding. Not sure how to close this thread, or delete it. Thanks.

I went with Taco's, but I just don't think I'm ready for it. I love the new power rotation, so I'll keep that. But I'll change up my tree, until I'm geared more. My merc will have 3 11s this week, and he has 2 personal rings, and a belt with azure 9s. The procs will be nice, but don't reflect my base station sheet. Still trying to find the right tree, and feats that fit my playstyle.

It is only worth using Taco's Build if you have a very high Crit chance... My Item Level is 3200 and Crit chance a little under 50% so it would not be worth it on my Build. I think it is only worth loosing 10% Crit chance if you are already up at 70-80% possibly a little more.

Once you are at very high Crit levels Taco's build is much more viable and extremely damaging :)

Also if you are in to PvP it is probably not worth loosing that 10% Crit chance for 50% Severity as people have Crit resistance in PvP.

Keep in mind a few things when considering which build...

HiC aka tacos build is intended for very high il, and very high crit...however, that isn't all...our guild melts mobs fast as we are higher il, but we also run more balanced parties (dc, cw, gf, plus 1-2 dps)...as such roots don't need to last long and we don't care about DoT since time isn't a factor...as such it's a great dps...

The traditional trapper is a better all around build due to crowd control, overall survivability, and DoT when time is a factor (I.e. Pugs, and soloing t2 or t3 HEs in various zones)...also when il is low, you can't go wrong with this build...it's also a much better pvp build too...

All that being said, I love both builds and don't have a preference because I like what both offer...and the different styles each one requires...

After the next mod, I'm doing a complete reroll (maxing dex) and going full trapper (no bloodletting) to fulfill a desire to a) solo shores and other t1s b) experiment with pvp and c) try to solo some other HEs that I haven't yet...for those interested, I'll be 100% crit strike, 35% ls, 125k hp...with power in the 70-80 k region...I'll be curious to see if I can achieve my goals...

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm currently on a perect plague. 44 percent crit chance, not including merc procs. Best to keep on this, or switch back to a vorpal? I have a brutal 4 and crit ring on myself. Comp has azure 9s on it.

I'd say you should use azures in all offensive slots and a vorpal...save brutals for end game

Thank you. I actually switched to azure all offense, darks defense for lifesteal, and I have 2 percent hoare in all utilities already. I've been trying to trade for a greater vorpal for some time now.

    @Ney, have you started
your Dex belt? Mine is nearly Legendary. I like what I rolled so I will try the belt change before rolling the higher Dex.

with skirmisher's gambit you have to make up for all that crit chance that you lose, so you may need to keep azures slotted even as you approach end game.

a lot of people say taco's build is for high IL only(including taco). it shines at high IL, its just fine around 2600 as well... that's about my where i was at when i switched to using skirmisher's gambit. just understand that you aren't anywhere near optimal at that point.

Thank you for the response soonergm. My problem, has been getting my vorpal back. I let my Pure go, back when I found out I was no where close, to where I needed to be to fully utilize it. Now I'm finally on that horizon, and I'm struggling to even get a greater back. I can't save up 1.8m Diamonds to save the life of me. I might have to actually sell off my enchants in AH, and grind there. My crit chance is way higher. I'm on Bonding 10's, all ready to refine, and I can get my chance up to about 55 percent with 3 stacks. I think I could see myself going back to Gambit, once I get a Greater, or even a pure Vorpal, and get my bondings to a minimum of 11, to sustain crit chance.

I also have been stagnant on my gear. I have enough fangs for atleast 1 piece of dragon flight. I only want the head, and feet. My guild hasn't been focusing market place lately. So I've been trying to make up for it in other areas.

I honestly do not see the point in having/getting a Vorpal as well as having Skirmisher's Gambit. The way I look at it Skirmisher's Gambit is basically a Vorpal at the cost of 15 Feat Points, my Crit Severity is up near the 150% mark so putting a Vorpal on top of that is overkill and it also has diminishing returns.

Anyhoo I have respecced lately and have put points into Skirmisher's Gambit, but I think is is better to go with a different weapon enchant on top of that.

Csev around 220% is noticeable, the diminished returns aren't all that bad like say apg...only diff enchant I'd do is dread...keep in mind HiC build is for specific gameplay

ok im a 3.3k hunter i use azures over bruts but i am thinking of switching some out but not all. iv learned for max dps as a trapper is pathfinder-hunters teamwork (melee) adds more dps to your attacks (its a debuff).. cordon of arrows is insane with hindering and fox with that u can get a clean rotation and max dps . if you are having a hard time with ur rotation u may want to try cleaning your rotation up . u should never have cooldowns. as far as crit goes i have 14,170 and my vorpal loves me lol though if ur crit is lower then 8 i would use a fey or terror before using a vorpal within saying that there is a new enchantment coming out that seems to be perfect for hunters. i spend hours on my hunter everyday all i do is change builds and learn what works best for hunters. theres alot more to hunters and alot of secret tricks. i can tell u last night i cleared a dungeon with over 100,000,000 in damage.
i hope this helps. my hunter is a high crit and control build and if that is something that sounds good to u or something u wanna try then there u go

These last 2 double Enchant/RP events have enabled me to rank up some secondary equipment for my HR. I have had the LM set for a long time at max rank. I have been working on the Black Ice Set and also Seldarin... Seldarin I almost have at max Rank for the Belt and I have upgraded the Artefact to Mythic. Just missing the Beholder for the Black Ice set, I will be able to give the sets some proper testing soon :)

I have also found the Owlbear Companion does some hefty damage with a high power score, it can be beneficial to have a lower crit chance and higher power (with the LM nerf coming anyway) and having procs off the Companion active. It is doing some hits of 20-30k for me :)

I have aimed to hit the 50% crit chance mark, then less 10% from Skirmishers Gambit and then have high procs of Crit + Power from Companions gift... Its working nicely and I might do some vids.

Great info guys, thank you. @articiawinter I agree with your swap. I feel Azures are a must, until I hit more of an end game build. Then I can afford to swap for brutes. I'm currently off gambit. I'm on a cordon, Hindering, and constricting rotation. Fox swapped with cordon, for situational purposes. I'm using a perfect plague, and a Perfect Thunderhead. I actually just sold my Plague a few minutes ago, because I've been trying to grind these bondings up. Iv'e been stuck at fully refined 10's, and I have a key addiction, when I finally get a good chunk of loose ad ;) Guilty pleasure lol. I was going to grab a Vorpal today, but now I'm hesitant with Shadowclad coming out. Either way, I have no weapon enchant at this point lol. @wdj40, I'm curious to see if Lostmauth, will continue to be the best set for our characters. I think If I can get some more crit chance, I'd be willing to jump back to gambit.
  • kohndrekohndre Member Posts: 17 Arc User
Oh wow, just noticed Shadowclad is an armor enchant. No idea what combination I'll be using now.

The new weapon enchantment is the dread there's a thread about on here . but the new enchantment is also buy with zen only will be in a pack with key like dusk boots.
  • kohndrekohndre Member Posts: 17 Arc User
Yeah I had read somewhere, it will be a zen market purchase. I'm kind of stuck at this point. I have read things on dread, but it seems to be the best at this point. I need to do more research on percentages, and how my character is actually using it. I know myself, and a good portion of people probably just blindly follow what we see. Arc finds ways to get you to spend more money. In ways, I wish the game wouldn't have been free. I would have gladly played, for something more stable.
  • articiawinterarticiawinter Member Posts: 41 Arc User
well from what i hear and read dread seems to be best in slot for hunters i cant say anything about it but it is one i will be trying out
