Neverwinter is NOT a platformer and should never be designed as such

morgonmgcmorgonmgc Member Posts: 68
Now that Lostmauth is back up, this post is more relevant..

Whomever designed the Lostmauth dungeon hit his (or her) head and somehow mistook Neverwinter for some sort of platformer where jumping is actually precise and fluid.

It's not.

In case you've had your head up each other's ... 'never-regions', the game is riddled with performance issues, most notably the very fact that jumping is not precise, or fluid. The game often does not register the jump command accurately enough to make the 'jumping puzzle' a viable design decision for Neverwinter.

If you intend on fixing performance issues, THEN you can try to have some jumping mechanics.
Until that point, Cryptic must fix the geometry of the map to allow for free, lateral movement; without jumping, and without getting slammed around, which currently results in loss of control of your character.

It's a shame really, the dungeon itself is really interesting to look at and lovely spaces to play in. But that platforming and the constant knock backs on the Lostmauth fight ruin it. Yes I can dodge, but I can't dodge what I can't see or dodge something that hits me before it's suppose to.

Jumping on almost every MMO is bad.

    The dungeon is very simple.

Not a platformer? I've always wondered what MMOs are now? They're not RPG's that's for sure. Maybe like a dress up game? lol

Its just an extra level of difficulty, def not worth complaining about. There was some serious lag before maint yesty but that's irrelevant.

My first time trying LoL.. had to quit as I could not jump over the lava and no matter where I tried I just either fell off edge or fell short of opposite ledge !!

Any tips ? I get the dodging the fireballs but the jumping is just beyond me is there a particular spot or technique.

Time your jumps just as it looks like your character is about to run off the edge. It might take a little practice, but I time my jumps for when the blue circle under my character is about halfway off the ledge. If you jump too early, you always seem to hit the lip of the next ledge and fall.

lol ran the epic version for the first time.

The lag was SO ****ING REAL. it was ******ed. I was rubber banding into lava for what seemed like 5 minutes. Nice curveball Neverwinter.

I'm starting to think this is intentional. lol

I just ended up quitting this game cuz of this dungeon. It really put me over the edge. I just suck at jumping with a dragonborn i suppose. Only stayed because of the time i invested. Bleh. Hopefully my next mmo doesnt have stiff platforming jumping HAMSTER.

Also, hold down the buttons while jumping; otherwise, it's a short jump. I have a gwf (worst toon for jumping) and can jump the platforms non-stop by just not rushing things. Tricky, but once you get used to it, piece of cake.

I hold the left side controls in place b4 the jump & just hit & hold A at the right time. As long as I've got the angle right it always works - and that's on all classes I play.

The dwarf Paladin thinks that's cute.

L0L I love the umping/platform stuff b/c it is different than usual and the butthurt it caused is HILARIOUS. If you don't have the skill too bad. This coming fromsone who has died when jumping too. Not a big deal. It is fun and adds to the gameplay/challenge.

I guess we'll have to wave goodbye to the Pally bubbling people so they can run through lava xD

Really...? You quit the game because of a particular dungeon \ jumping?

Here's one every gamer should know and would make a big difference here. Make sure the input you use on your Tv while gaming is set to "game mode" and not cinema or something else that you thought made it look a bit better. Depending on the type of tv this will make huge difference in the latency. This being the time it takes you to hit LB - A, jump and the tv to register and perform all the tasks to make it happen on screen. My sonys gaming mode is 18 ms while cinema is like 50+ms. I cant remember the exact numbers. I have read that some tvs have Hdmi inputs that are designated for gaming aswell. So keeping my Xbox hooked up to Hdmi port 1 while being on gaming mode gives me almost instant latency on my Tv. Its something to look into haven't already.

Wow. People actually think the left path is tough on ELOL? I came into this topic expecting it to be a joke but people seriously struggle with this? Wow. Sure, the controls aren't the greatest but come on. Any gamer should easily be able to handle themselves.

Yes, it is tough for most people who are new to this dungeon. It usually takes some practice cause most people think they will jump just fine by pressing and releasing the buttons; they don't realize you have to hold 'em down while jumping.
