I suppose there must be an old thread for this bug, but i couldn't find it.
I reported this bug 4-5 months ago and somehow it fixed itself after a couple of days. But this time TWO of my characters got the bug at the same time.
Ofcourse this is very annoying and especially since you also get stuck in "Return to instance" - something that should be able to cancel somehow if you want to.
Since bugs rarely gets fixed ...is there any kind of trick to get around this?

In epic demogorgon (i guess it should work in all dungs/skirms) some dude invited me to his group of just four. This put me in the "group loop" again and i've been joining groups normally since then.

You may have que'd, were in a que, joined an instance, and or timed out in the guild stronghold. Yes sounds weird, BUT if you take all you characters log them into protectors, then take the glitched character, travel to the stronghold, then travel back to protectors, log out, log back in, it should fix the check issue.
It was explained something like the que process checks to see if your character is idle / loaded and it tries to force you into a party by yourself.... But it doesn't read you as on that character but on a different one???? (Don't quote me just try) lol
I dunno as crazy as it sounds it worked for me...
(This is if the inv method won't work) - edit
I opened a ticket for this problem and was told it was a previously unreported bug.

The invite fix worked for me several times , however I had an issue where it only half worked.
Explanation: I was in a group , but not "in the group" logged out and in did the invite rejoined the group as normal , all was good. Every group I joined after that same issue with same results for just that queue. Now as luck would have it the next morning was maintenance day , so i waited before doing anything drastic.
After the maintenance my issue was no more. So making a long story longer if this happens to you , be patient and wait for the weekly maintenance and it will fix itself (at least it did for me)and hopefully for you.
The person sending the invite will receive a message saying "player already in a group", at which point the members of your group will appear on your screen.
Logging out doesn't do anything as the server keeps track of you - the purpose of the re-inv is to nudge the server to refresh how it lists you as you're caught in a kind of semi-group status.

TY
I was in an instance but "not in the group" that is why I logged out , was the only way to leave the instance since we had just started. Having been down that road before I knew to invite someone to fix the issue, but I think I created a loop lock because I was technically still in a group.
After inviting someone to a group I returned to the instance and all seemed normal. After that I queued for an instance and I was "not in the group" (same day) several consecutive queues same result.
However as I mentioned before we had a server maintenance day the next day. After the servers went back online my "loop lock" fixed itself.
Logging out and back in kicked me back out of the instance but with the option to return.
I am not currently in a Guild so I was unable to ask for an invite from anyone.
I do appreciate your feedback just posted that that info in case someone else got stuck like I did.
Short story : If all else fails server maintenance will fix the issue.
