Castle Never

nitehawkk2nitehawkk2 Member Posts: 1 Arc User
I'm a lvl 70 OP with a gs of 2.4K defense of 8k and deflection of 3.5k Castle Never is supposed to be a minimum gs of 2K, yet, Orcus, the final boss, seems to one shot me, even with full health, quite a bit. I'm protection paly, so anyone have any ideas on how I can tank this boss? Or know of any youtube videos I can watch, showing a Paly tanking this boss ?? Any help would be appreciated. thanks

For genuine tanking you have to have much higher stats, close to max, I have been in parties with 4k guardians, even with astral shield and divine armour, a single hit leaves him with a sliver of hp before death.

For non genuine tanking you can try use a striker to have a companion to soak up one shot kills (get the bell that resurrects it) and not try face tank. You can also hope for a virtuous cleric that gives AP gain.

Its possible, Ive done it at low i levels, even with minimal support. (no real heals/haste going on)

but.. the group I was in, burnt orcus quick.. Im sure if I was in a weaker group.. it wouldnt turn out well at all.

My healer OP managed to survive a hit due to shield of faith and knight's valor. The GF survived the whole time.

The fact that OPs and divine protector are still a plague doesn't help with the balance of things. The devs seriously need to address OPs and actually force parties to use their noodles.

Most OP tanks don't actually do tanking in dungeons, rather than spam a broken daily combined with an encounter to become immortal for a ridiculous duration. I often see BiS tank OPs in pvp with like 32% DR, because they don't need to stack defense.

If they don't they'll end up adding new bosses that deal 1,000,000 damage to compensate.

That pretty much sums up the fact that the paladin is not a real tank, rather it is a mage with an immortality spell.

I tanked orcus for 23 minutes on a 2.3k ilvl pally, it is definitely doable, but you have to be paying attention.

From the times I have run it, to me is seems that you almost need a GF and an OP tank to make it the smoothest possible. Well almost all parties I have gone into to with were 1 DC, 1 OP (tank), 1 GF (tact), 1 GWF and the other was interchangeable. Even ran it once with 2 DCs, but that one took forever as there was not enough dps, with both DCs being buff/healers.

Orcus uses the Finger of Death, not the Finger of Hurts a Lot.

I think it's nice that a Demon Prince can one-shot any adventurer, as an occasional power. I have only seen him use it at the start of the fight, though that may not be the only time. My GF uses Steel Defense and immediately pops a daily for 6 seconds of invulnerability. For a non-GF, soulforged can save the day or an OP with the resurrection aura or any character (DC?) with Lathander's Eye, or anyone that can scoot over and resurrect you (this last option can quickly lead to a wipe).

I think it's a huge problem with the Orcus battle that tank pets can just tank him while he ignores ranged DPS that burn him to a crisp. You would think a Demon Prince would be smarter than that (and it certainly cheapens the victory).

My hope is that they keep Finger of Death a lethal power, make Orcus smarter about being tanked in general but especially by pets but make sure there are a variety of ways a party can recover from Finger of Death using good game play and quick thinking.

You need to be able to handle a 250k+ damage hit. If you want to do traditional tanking.

I have found that I can walk in a circle(right next to orcus) around the boss this causes him to spin trying to face you. This helps you survive it also give you time to recharge Templar's wrath. When my temporary health(yellow) from Templars wrath is low I move back so that I only need to watch out for orbs and the green ranged attack.

Since the bubble is still up the party is still safe and I don't get one hit. I also found that directly after the piece where the hoard tries to walk into the green ball in the center of the screen I move to the edge of the area as there seems to be an invisible attack from orcus before he appears(make sure the bubble is up your party might not do this).

Also the Blink dog is fantastic in the orcus fight ... For me anyways.

There are more than BIS players in this game
RIP Real Tiamat, RIP Real Demogorgon RIP real Temple of the spider. Why remove non bis content to give to bis players ????
FORCING the majority of your player base to play 4 mod old dungeons and trial will have a bad result on player base
Changes are getting so bad i would rather prefer no new changes (RIP ICE FISHING in winter fest)

Did it yesterday. Good Party composition (DC - GF- 2 GWF - CW) we cleared the dungeon quikly... but at Orcus, we wiped the first time.. as the GF died immediately. At second try the GF died again, but i managed to keep the party alive for the rest of the battle...

So also a DC can help the party survive it ( i do not have broken companions, and use only Stone of allure)

Please fix Zhentarim Warlock companion's skill "Arcane Warping" to the originally intended "Arcane Boost"

Simple answer is TEMP HP + DP.
also try to stay out of red zones

First rule of fight club....stay out of red....second rule of fight club....stay out of red. My CW hugs Orcus the entire fight in melee range, but I follow the rules, thus do not die. Our guild has great Tanks and Healers that know how to do what they do. I just DPS like a wild monkey dodging red.

Circle of Power is definately your friend here. I run a 2.8 OP tank and that bonus 25% DR helps a lot. For orcus I run Templars, Binding and Circle. If you cycle them you stay alive.

My 2.5 OP went to CN the first time. Died the first 2 tries for the last boss mainly because I don't play OP well enough. My main is a GWF and my OP has not played in party enough times regardless. My OP was called in only because there was no other OP stepped up (I was doing daily with another character). I often (by mistake) play OP like a GWF. :(

Anyway, Templars, Avenger, Bonding. My job was to keep the bubble up. The third try was easy enough once I got my routine right (and remember I am not a GWF).
