I'm wondering about the damage potential of protection paladin in PvE.
Force of will feat - additional 1% crit per charm, this makes charm much worth getting. Although paladin doesn't have a % damage stat, charm gives AP gain and combat advantage which is almost as good as damage. If build max charm, roll 16 + 2 from race + 2 from fires + 7 from level + 4 from belt = 31 charm. That's 21% AP gain, 21% crit and 21% combat advantage damage (stamina and companion bonus as well).
When feat-ed and build this way, plus Justice tree, build 20k power, 80% crit (yes it's possible, only on OP)+ 60% pen, vorpal, use Templer + Smite + circle/vow/scared, Aura of wis+courage and Judgement daily. How is the DPS of paladin compared to, say, damage build GWF?
If paladin can do half to 2/3 of the damage of GWF then i would say it's great DPS potential.

MY paladin atm is devotion(that means i dont have the power boost) 2k seeing numbers like 100k critical per judgment when i am alone then i can say with right setup and top build can rock.
Do you do fine even with pugs healers?
Between Sigil of Devoted, and BL, TW, I manage to gain enough AP to fulfill my role as tank as well. By no means am I perma bubble though. It is not a simple thing , and there is a lot to juggle, and like I said, timing is critical.
I typically have approx 165K HP, and defense a little above 15k. DR is just a hair over 60% natively but when my bondings proc, then my stats go up just a teency bit (Legendary Blink Dog with Rank 12 Bondings) Transcendent Negation helps me as well
