Companion for Soloing

caelrasstocaelrassto Member Posts: 2 Arc User
I'm moderately geared dev pally, and soloing through the campaign areas is fairly decent. Things die and I'm very safe with the self healing. Right now I'm using Aura of Solitude with a Ioun Stone to help speed it along. I was wondering if an active companion would be better than Solitude+Augment for those solo times, purely from a damage/speed standpoint. If so, what companion would be good? I don't have the AD to go the full bonding route yet; I could go with lesser or normal bondings.

It doesn't seem like any companion does enough DPS to be more effective, but I really haven't tried beyond white/green companions for DPS yet.

Best recommendation is to upgrade augment to Legendary then you get consistent buffs.

If you got the AD, get yourself 3 greater bonding stones or better and swap to an active companion like the blink dog.

What is the advantage of using the blink dog ? In comparison to like the Zhent Warlock ? I was under the impression that a augment companion was better overall, whereas the companion like blink dog or most of the other ones, will die periodically and the time to wait for respawn = no bonus, whereas augment like Ioun stone of Allure is active 100% of the time, with no downtime.

Well, each bonding stone at rank 12 gives 95% of the companion's stats meaning 1 is the same as an augment and 2 are better. Companions reset the bonding stone cooldowns when they die, which means you can get more then 3 stacks. Fast attacking companions can easily get 3 bonding stacks at the moment combat begins, I consider the blink dog better then the zhent, the best one being the lightfoot thief.

Ok so what about 3 Rank 12 bondings on a Augment Ioun Stone ? Any advantage to that ?

No, the bonding stones only work on companions that can attack.

I wonder is there is a hierarchy of companions that could be used. Ranked in order from most expensive down to budget versions. Many of us can not afford the millions of AD to spend to get these BiS items.

another question, for the ppl on a budget striker with rank 9-10s or augment with with of the loyal master
Please fix Zhentarim Warlock companion's skill "Arcane Warping" to the originally intended "Arcane Boost"

Pure -> Transcendent Plague Fire weapon enchantment giving 80damge/20 seconds for 500k+ AD is a joke.

How big of a difference would using a Blink Dog or Lightfoot Thief over, say a common Striker, like the Sellsword be? What's the key mechanic that makes those companions superior?
  • wildfiredewildfirede Member Posts: 886 Arc User
the faster attack speed of those keeps 3 bounding bonus stacks more easy than slower pets.
There are even known cases where a fast companion + different ranks of stones + lliara bell let you stack 8-9 procs... clearly not intended but still not fixed ( couse ppl spend HAMSTER€ on zen->ad to buy that lf.thief)

Thanks for the reply, but according to the Neverwiki - the attack speed of the Lightfoot thief's sky flourish is 2secs - that is the same speed as the Sellsword's Wicked Strike. Is the wiki incorrect?

"...in a series of 4 quick strikes" = 4 strikes every 2sec, sellsword is actually good too but comes @ white, lots of money to get him up.
