Hey all,
I'm sorry to say I'm really disappointed. I'm trying to get the SH weapons and got jewelcrafting and mailsmithing lv 25. I started by doing mailsmithing mastercraft, here are what's needed:
Quest 1.1 : 500x Adamentine Rings and Scales
Quest 1.2 : 1x Gemmed Elemental Scale Armor (t3 result and need the rare event to pop up)
1x Soldier's Gemmed Elemental Chainmail (same)
1x Soldier's Gemmed Elemental Chausses (same)
After Quest 1, we get recipe 1 and Mailler's Lathe (used later in mastercraft)
Quest 2.1 :12 x Adamant Wire: needs 3 Adamant Ores, 1 Adamant Sand (from maps bought for 2k GM at the explorer shop), 2 Molybneda (from maps too) and 1 shark oil (here starts the joke: it comes from another profession's mastercraft, meaning we need all professions 25 or be really dependent of the market).
Here the best: it's a t3 result, so with all epic tools, should be 60% chance. But no, we must use 1 of the useless tool we got before, filling up a slot without giving 40% quality. So we got only 20% chance to get it ! That's ridiculous.
Stuck at Quest 2.1 because I cannot get shark oil.
Then I abandon the Quest 2 of mailsmith's mastercraft and started the Jewelcrafting one, here's what we need:
Quest 1.1: 500x Perfect gems
250x Aberrant leather strips
Quest1.2: 1x Gemmed Adamant Necklace of Regeneration (t3 result from rare event too)
1x Superior Adamant Ring of Piercing (t1 result from event)
1x Superior Belt of Recovery (same)
After quest 1, same: we get a recipe r1, and a Grinding Wheel (tool for mastercraft)
Quest 2.1: 12x Gold nuggets: needs 2 Gold Ores each (get them from the maps too). Here comes the joke again, it's a t3 result and only have 20% chance to get that t3 result.
I needed to open 14 maps (from explorer's shop) to get those 12 Gold nuggets. Meaning that's worth 28k Guild Marks...
Quest 2.2: 6x Gold Ingots: needs 3 Gold nuggets each (the previous 12 are returned and lost) + Concentrated Aqua Regia (comes from other profession). And guess what ?! Same thing, it's a t3 result with only 20% of succeding. But we're lucky, we still get 1 Nugget if we miss it. Let me do the math real quick tho:
3x Gold nuggets * 5 (20% chance) * 6xGold Ingots = 90 Gold Nuggets !! And I'm not even counting the other Aqua Regia. 90 Gold Nuggets ! That is 210k Guild Marks based on what I saw before ! (90/12*14*2k). We're just talking about the Quest 2.2 ! and it costs a lot of GM What the hell ?!
And by looking at the recipies, will prolly need to do the same for silver ingots and copper ingots. And with those ingots, we can craft Gold/Silver/Bronze Coins. Of course those are t3 results with 20% chance only and needs 1(gold) or 2 ingots (silver and bronze) + some stuff from other professions. Oh and why not add 1 more thing ?! Yeah, there's more, with those 3 coins, you can craft another thing that is .... t3 with only 20% chance ! If it's there, I'm afraid it means it'll be needed. So I'll let you guys do the math, and you'll understand my point pretty quickly !
Let me add something too. First we need t3 results every time meaning 4 epic tools. But why do we need 1 of each kind ?! (Yeah for some tasks a specific tool is mandatory !). Oh and let me ask, why the hell, do we need a epic hammer (mailsmithing), or epic tile (artificing) for a jewelcrafting task ?!!
So this is an AD sink, a GM sink, and strongly dependent on the AH ! That is really ridiculous ! And for what rewards ? Amazing MH/OH set and awesome gear ?! Hahaha not all, SH weaps that are great only if lots of people have it, and from what I saw, that won't really be the case and some low level gear that isn't even same level that the one you can "easily" get (at least way more easily than that)!
So could you please review that mastercraft before some guilds get to GH 12 MP 6 (and Explorer r6 as it'll be needed for the first guilds to have)!!
Thanks for reading, cya all !
edit: The shark oil was in the vendor, thanks for the answer, I didn't see it there
I got the quest 2.1 from mailsmithing done. And need 3 adamant rings and 3 adamant scales. That needs a lot of stuff, can be compared to the 6 ingots for the jewelcrafting. So I'm done for now too... Devs, please make it more accessible, so it would actually be usueful.
Take care.

Oh the Carnage
I've been making gemmed pants/shirts since beta. I started out with platesmithing because my main was a GF, then grew the collection across all types. I bought epic tools for artificing and weaponsmithing that are useless. I bought epic alchemy tools that have always been useless. I bought the black ice tools which are useless.
Jewelrycrafting brought new life to professions but was quickly offset by the addition of artifact neck/waist. Jewelrycrafting was further hampered by the addition of the SCA companion equipment becoming BIS. Effectively Jewelrycrafting went from producing 7 BIS pieces for a level character with augment companion to only 2.
Epic Pants/Shirts were added as gifts in the PVP campaign and although not BIS they do create a viable alternative to crafted sets and therefore decrease the market for them.
Now in Mod 8 there are pants/shirts available from a store (first time that option has been present in the game). These are not BIS but also a viable alternative to crafted sets that decrease the market for them.
As the population of Neverwinter has declined and further to that the number of new characters (including geared alts, I say geared because I don't count invoke alts that do not get BIS equiped) the production of the BIS pants/shirts/rings has far outpaced the demand leading to many BIS items selling for less than the cost of production.
Then I hear of Mastercraft of which I haven't explored or seen but my only thought is that it is another AD sink. What I do know is its only available to the largest guilds which creates a further divide between the have/have not's. So while I admittedly cannot speak to the mechanics of Mastercraft I can say that the direction that it represents leaves little promise to those not in big guilds (who often require high gear levels for entrance) some of which are charging up to 5M AD membership fee.
The elitist divide in Neverwinter is growing...
It shoul be either less epic craftable resources needed for quest (6 instead of 12 or less in quest 2.1, for example) or +20-30% quality bonus for new tools. For now... it is awful.
The only good thing here is that, since SH weapons require so much time and effort to get, maybe they will be "BiS" (at least formally) for a very long time while the developers focus more on content like new dungeons and not equipment (yeah, I know, I'm being too optimistic). But again, elemental weapons are better for some classes and much easier to get - I got weapons from fiery pit in, like, one day.
P.S. also cashmere wool is bugged and tailoring quest cannot be finished. Shame on you, cryptics.
Thats the sad and crazy part of the whole thing. IT ONLY works when tons of people take them, since they gated them to this ridiculous level, in essence they made them worthless.
I imagine people doing that to get their gears...NOT !
Can't even find words to describe how stupid this idea is. Kudos for the folks behind it though - each time I'm amazed how it is possible that someone thinks it's even half good.
And than we hear that dev's want to look at the data and evaluate and adjust and...ffs just look at this, no really LOOK !
It's stupid, just idiotic.

This is a rushed spreadsheet (of the basic tasks, no legendary things) to get an idea on how much making stuff currently would cost based on mainly AH pricing with a 20% success rate. Don't expect this to be accurate, more of a rough indicator how much AD you would need as of posting this and assuming all the required mats were available at the cheapest price and the time taken to make stuff isnt considered. Also its incomplete as there is an issue with Tailoring and progression atm.
(lots of caveats i know, but...)
It is very early days with master crafting and the change in price of 1 item can have a big impact for the subsequent dependent tasks.
BUT.... 1 gold wire will cost about 48 million AD to make today.
Completing lvl 2 tasks will cost in the range of 800k to 3.6 mil
Master Crafting atm is a filthy rich players game or an amazing AD sink for the uneducated.
Please make this part of the game more equitable for all players promptly.
