Morning All, new player to this game, but I have played most online rpgs since the first one (NWN on AOL). Level 48 Pally, leveling solo, fun so far, and I am sure lots of grinds ahead.

Leveling companions seems tough once they cap, if I was to buy a new companion, how do I tell what his max base level is?

Are lock boxes worth it?

Are any of the packs worth, really what is worth purchasing with Zen?

I bought 30 days of VIP, worth it or not I have it, what is everyone's opinion on VIP?

Is there anywhere that lists the possible items in the Howling Lock boxes?

Any general help also would be awesome! See you in game!

Guardian, Feywild or Hero of the North are worth it because they have account unlock mounts - but then you can save yourself the cash and get any epic mount from the zen store and it's account-wide too. Lockboxes are very rarely worth it - it's gambling and the house always wins. VIP makes a lot of things very convenient. Honestly, maxing VIP ranks out is pretty useful - having a bank, travel and vendor at your fingertips is awesome, plus the XP bonus - all good things.

You're having fun because you haven't hit 60 yet - 60 to 70 is truely terrible - though it's a bit better now that they only require 8 vigilance tasks instead of 16 per area in each zone (3 areas per zone). So, at least you feel like you're progressing the story, at least up until you realize you finished it and didn't notice... (all ya'll raise your hand if that happened to you! *raises hand*)

Anyway - save your money until you hit 70 except maybe for VIP and an epic mount. Other than that, seriously, don't spend a penny and hoard your AD. You don't need top gear, you can make due fine with what you find along the way until you hit 70. Then, if you are still having fun in the game, then consider dropping some cash and/or AD to buff up a bit.

Also, join a guild - it really will make your experience in game better in many ways, but be picky - bigger isn't always better, but it can be. Greycloaks (the guild I founded years ago) is super awesome, Fencebane is pretty awesome and there's others out there too that really do enrich your experience - just look for a guild that is casual. If they throw a bunch of requirements at you - skip them, no guild with more than ultra cursory requirements is really a casual guild. By ultra-cursory I mean things like lvl 60 + but no other requirements. Gear Score (er... item level) reqs - forget it, if a guild requires you to have "good" gear, they're not casual and unless you're into that sort of thing (and being that you're leveling solo, I'm guessing you're not), you should look elsewhere.

120% mount is devalued some, as they are not bis.. thus making them not as attractive as they were once. Overall the packs have LESS value today then they did when those were released.

My recommendation would be dragonborn legend, forget all of its stuff, its just the bags that give it value.
SW pack.. the pet is #1 best pack value out of the class ones anyways (slyph might have more value for pvpers in siege and openworld. )

Every other pack.. its up to you, I would say having a healer isnt bad.. but many of us have been here long enough not to only have one angel.. but have two, thus flooding the market on them. So they are fairly cheap.

I would love the fey-wild, just for the moonrace, but Im not going to spend the money on it just for a cosmetic appearance (though they are cool imo)

VIP is well worth it, its not just about the key, its about the tradebars you get + added income you can earn with it(I earn roughly 50-60k of AD a day depending on the day, due to VIP)

Without it you are totally gimped imo.

So I would say, buy vip, buy sw pack.. then maybe dragonborn if you want to.. or just buy a odd runic bag every few months or something.

Those are the best values as I see them.

-You tell depending on the color the companion is. White/Green/Blue/Purple/Orange

-Depends if you are lucky or what you want out of them really.

-IMO - VIP a key subscription that is used to make you get hooked on keys. The game does seem to becoming even more lockbox-centric than it was before with the new rewards for TTB.

-Yes but I don't know the link

If you already have one in game, you can right click it and check it out without going to check the external source.

    Hello zerackus :)
    Welcome to the game.

Yes the story quests are fun, and there is grind ahead.. :(

    But to answer your questions...

lockboxes - maybe.. depends on your view of gambling ;)

packs - some people already answered and yes the drogonborne pack is good because of the inventory bag that comes with it and the artifact. The warlock pack is good too.. i also recommend the feywild one.. as the unicorn mount you get is account unlock and a purple quality mount is really helpful

VIP - i just got VIP status myself and I must say even at only rank 1 its very useful.. will be getting more ranks when i can :)

Well there is a wiki for the game... its somewhat behind in terms of content.. but it does have a lot of info on basics and other details.... here's the link: http://neverwinter.gamepedia.com

Enjoy and have fun out there :)

To put the 1 key reward per day in perspective - 1 key costs 125 Zen. You get 1 per day (that you log in) so if you log in every day it's 30 x 125 = 3750 Zen value just on keys. So yeah, it's a fair deal in my option.

As for the Feywild pack, I have it but I never got around to using the race. The racial bonuses didn't fit well with the classes I play if I remember correctly but they are sexy. I hate the Unicorn mount (It's damn ugly) and the armor enchant is worthless. I do love the pet though. It was the only reason I actually got the pack, sad as they may seem.
