What Powers Are Slotted And Where For Your Control Wiz (lvl 70)

Looks like I initially posted this in the wrong place
Hey for you folks that are running control wizards, what powers are slotted and where are they mapped on your controller? I have heard wildly different opinions on the matter and have found some resources but not much. I have seen suggestions doing Rays of Frost but even maxed out it hardly does any damage yet I hear of Control Wizards doing massive amounts of DPS. Could some of you control wizards show what you have. I appreciate it. My wiz is Lvl 70, and have a gear item score of 2300. I think I should be doing more as a Spellstorm Thaum.

Powers for soloing when doing dailies?

Powers for group play/ dungeons?

Many thanks in advance!

    Item Level 2700 or so.

areas / dungeons where I'll be encountering groups of mobs:
    Mastery: Conduit of Ice
    X: Icy Terrain
    Y: Stop Time
    A: Sudden Storm

For areas with one mob at a time and PvP (Lair of Lostmouth is a great example of this with the golems)
    Mastery: Disintegrate
    X: Chill Strike
Y: Ray of Enfeeble (or Shield when necessary)
    A: Ice Rays

At Wills: Chilling Cloud (used mostly) and ray of frost for both
Dailies are Ice Knife and Oppressive Force for both.

and for Tomb of Spider, please please please throw Repel into Mastery. Pushing mobs off the cliff, and there is one with at least 75% of the encounters, makes the dungeon go by in half the time. Ask your tank to pull aggro close to cliff.

the only class that regularly outdamages me in T2's is the HR. There is always the odd 3k+ IL rogue or GWF that does it.

I use a similar layout for PvE but keep Disintegrate instead of Sudden Storm. This makes a good combo which does not need to be changed between single target and multi-target. Oppressive Force is also useful to do the pushing and it works more reliably on control-resistant enemies.

attorn97, Thanks!! Can you help me understand your layout. Why Ray of Frost when I look at the amount of damage it does is like 4-6k? Noticed you didnt include disintegrate. When I look at disintegrate, it's damage is over 30k. Is it how these cold powers stack? Thanks A bunch for your input

virtueofcyanide, the MOF wouldnt help since I am a spellstorm thaum. At least thats what I understand.

Can I change to MOF without a respec? If it makes a big difference I would be totally open to that.

Disintegrate is a great spell, but when dealing with groups of mobs, freezing them so they can't hit you or your teammates > taking a big chunk of hp out of one mob. I only keep ray of frost slotted as an at will to freeze one mob when a former group of mobs has been reduced to one Hexer or Green Cultist.

if they don't hit you because your frozen, your damage dealt numbers go up because you aren't on the ground waiting for a revive or running back to the group from the last campfire. If you freeze everything, its safer to run into the middle of the group for the Stop Time, and to stay on the edge for the Sudden Storm. Those are your big damage dealers.. hitting for 75k a pop to a group of 10 mobs is really nice.

single target areas and PvP are great for disintegrate. having a dragon disappear into a puff of green dust is the bestest! (and it sux that when you disintegrate Lostmouth, he returns as a corpse a few seconds later!)

and as virtueofcyanide said.. check out the MoF thread. "Death is the best form of crowd control". I follow the build with a couple very minor exceptions, and its awesome. it will be the best 800 zen you'll spend in the game... right now, that's barely 100k astral diamonds.

My CW in pvp uses Disintegrate, Entangling Force & Repel plus Shield in mastery. Cloud and Frost at-wills.

Most fights are single target and you need the quick firing encounters to be effective - I find these skills keep the enemy off me long enough to drop them unless they have high CC resist.

The Control Wizard sigil is great for breaking a TR out of stealth (better than lantern)

Frost is mainly used for OPs and DCs - when an OPs circle (cc immunity) goes down he freezes almost immediately, opening the way to hit him with all 3 encounters - only use disintegrate & knife once frozen as it doubles the damage.

I know people like to have dps skills on mastery but the extra survivability of shield on tab often makes the difference in a tough fight. This isn't so important in dungeons where other players are keeping you on your feet but I've got so used to it being there that it confuses me if I slot it somewhere else :D

For most open world areas/soloing I switch to Stop Time, Disintegrate & Chill Strike for most, but if I'm with others I'll change Chill Strike for Icy Terrain for mob control.

    I'm a Renegade SS btw.

CoI in spell mastery, then Sudden Storm, Icy Terrain, and Steal Time for other three encounters.

Oppressive Force is your main daily, with occasional use of Ice Knife.

Always keep EoTS and Spell Storm slotted as passives for a Thaum

Chilling Cloud should be your main at-will, with either ray of frost or magic missile as your second at will.

This works universally for all PVE content for a Thaum CW

@attorn97 have you played with even a decent sw? There's no way you're easily out dpsing them. Same with gwf. I'll concede there are a lot of bad ones, but even just a decent one has no trouble beating any class by millions of damage, especially in t2s.

Now if you meant t1 I'd believe that. The mobs die too fast. But still, they would over take you in damage on the boss.

Not true, he'll boost party damage more, but have a lower individual damage output, thaumaturge has a slightly higher raw damage output then Rene.

    ^^^^ agreed

GWF destroy most with damage dealt! Unless they are a Walmart Weapon Fighter.

^^^Not quite. Mentioned in another thread, I can typically out dps GWF and SW on my HR. It is always close, but unless they are significantly better geared then I am, then I can/do out dps them.

    MoF Thaum:

Most PVE and Dungeons where mobs are heavy:

    CoI on Mastery
FtF or Shards (depends. Shard hits really hard but takes longer to cast)
    Icy Terrain
    Steal Time

At will: Chilling Cloud and RoF for freezing

Feats: Critical Conflagration (which I will remove once I'm comfortable proccing smolder in other ways) and Swath of Destruction unless experimenting.

Dailies : Oppressive Force and Ice Knife. If I am experimenting with stats/feats/powers, I will slot Furious Emulation in for Ice Knife to ensure smolder procs.

Note: So far this helps the most for me when running with groups for adding all the buffs/debuffs. My item level is only 2098 so I can't hang with the T2 places yet unless I stay back and hit ranged which sucks. As for T1, I usually stay at the top unless I come across a TR/HR/GWF that has 2600+ item level.

Disintegrate: I've read a lot about this spell. Slowly trying to work/get used to it in my rotation for more single target encounters. I never leveled Chill Strike, but will work on that to maybe add.

I can say that as a CW, I will never remove icy terrain and steal time unless I'm in a strict one on one fight. Evey time I did, my numbers dropped dramatically. I never bothered with Shield or Repel. Might as well though just to see what else I can do.

Edit: Speaking of item levels, what the good gear nowadays?

    SS Renegade here (PvE).

    RT = Chilling Cloud
    LT = Magic Missile

    Mastery = Conduit of Ice

    Disintegrate
    Icy Terrain
    Steal Time

    Ice Knife
    Oppressive Force

    Storm Spell
    Chilling Presence

Occasionally I'll change out, but this is my go to load out for basically everything PvE, control, stacking chill & arcane, single target, AoE, crit, decent amount of damage, and hefty buffs pretty much all covered.
