From the positive players

To Cryptic/Scott:

Just want to say that I know you have to comb through all kinds of whining and negativity on these forums sometimes, but as a long time member of the game I just want to say that I know a ton of very active players that love your game. From the graphics and effects, to the storylines, to the group content, you have done a lot of good things. Not enough of us with a positive attitude about the game make it to the forums very often, but on behalf of all of us, I'd like to say that post-Elemental Evil you have been doing a great job. Side note: It's most of the people that don't come to the forums that end up spending their money on the game, not the complainers. If I've gathered one suggestion among the long term financially invested demographic, it's that your customer service could use a little polish; it's not bad, but not at that level of excellence that I know you want to hit.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the hard work. So many of us that need Neverwinter to escape the craziness of RL thank you.

I am curious what your positive players think of the fact that there less dungeons now than there were two years ago, and the fact that it seems to be impossible for Cryptic to be able to ever return them. Then there blatantly bad bugs and huge class imbalances (and they are not petty gripes, they are huge). When I said I was curious, I really meant it, please can you get the people that think things are so wonderful but don't post in the forums to say what they think of the ridiculous dungeon situation. They don't have to post here you can summarize what they think, I genuinely want to know how they rationalize the dungeons.

    oh please..

They are big boys, they created their own failures, we didnt, there is a reason why thousands and thousands have left. SURE you can tell those who dont like something to go away.. to a point, but when its obvious that you have driven away this much of the playerbase.. something isnt right. Not at all.

I will note, that the trade bar changes, will make my a little bit happier.

now if they would just fix some more costing structures, add some more dds back, give us reason to play them.. I would be at least 80% back.

PvP is sort of dead to me at the stage, I hate all of the drains, wards and new rings appear to be even more boinked.. just too much weird power stuff going on on that side.. to many gated items that make it less fun in the end to me.

I really dont know how long the original poster has been around..

    oh please..

    . . . .

I really dont know how long the original poster has been around..

A couple of weeks at most, from the obvious naivety of the situation.
    Definitely not an Arc User.

Been around a while. Just looked at my account settings and it says I've been a member since 4/27/12, so that must be when I jumped in open beta.

For the poster that was curious as to what we think about them removing the dungeons, no one is happy about it but we attribute that to the failings that were Elemental Evil. Scott can't come in and reverse everthing overnight, but he has been taking strides in the right direction, and that is what we focus on.

Hope that cleared some stuff up.

    Thanks!

I think the remove of AD from leadership was something that had to be done at the cost of losing some accounts but it made better for those who do invest in the game, since then the prices of things got lowered, everybody can afford more stuff.

I didn't got to see all the Dungeons since im kind of new on this, but epic dungeons don't bother me, pvp is kind of lame sometimes, specially when i with my cw lvl 70 gs 2.42k have to fight 3.5k guys, but sometimes the match is pretty cool and fun, and the winner is not known till it ends.

The thing is, those of us who actually enjoy the game have a tendency to attract in-game financial windfalls.

While people complained about mod1 changes to gear and powers (the big OMG-no-more-double-Astral-Shield-dungeons-are-now-impossible-we-quit-Cryptic-we-hate-you phase) we simply enjoyed the game and played different characters to fully experience the leveling process. There are dozens of little secrets and hidden bits of lore here and there, and some of the most beautiful landscape scenery I've ever seen in a video game. In the end, it turns out our alts could be used for Leadership. Yay.
While people complained about mod2 changes to AP gain, exploits and the new refinement system we just kept working on our mains and enjoyed running the dungeons with other players. And then it turns out all those extra set armor pieces we kept from all those runs are now worth several million AD. Yay.
And it goes on and on. It turns out we could drop our old artifact equipment into new ones and gain back 80% of its RP value during x2. It turns out all those Greater Marks of Power/Union/Stability we happily farmed with DR (the zone attracts a lot of players with interesting backgrounds) sold for 100k+ AD at some point. It turns out all those extra campaign currencies we farmed can now be used to buy decent equipment our alts.

It's mod7, and most of us are now in legendaries/mythicals. It's been a wonderful ride for us so far (the occasional bump notwithstanding) mostly because we just enjoyed the game. Games like WoW had a lot more content, but Neverwinter allowed us to reach end-game content with our characters in a way that would have been impossible in games like WoW. I should know, I played WoW and other MMOs for a few years. It was impossible to get anywhere if you just wanted to play the game at your own pace - you needed a good guild, you needed a good team, you needed to use the "best" build, you needed to devote months worth of effort at a time for single end-game item, etc. And that's with just ONE character. Back then the casual player would never even see the inside of some of WoW's older end-game dungeons.
Perhaps this insight into what should/should not be possible in an MMO helped me make just the right decisions while Neverwinter, I don't know.
Still, I occasionally still play low level characters (mostly untwinked, one-shotting low level mobs gets boring) and so I notice all the little changes here and there that Cryptic makes over time. It tells me that they do care about the game, and that's enough for me.

Now, for the grim side. From our perspective, players have as much blame as the devs when it came to some of the more questionable changes made in the game.
You wanted the TR nerfed. You did not bother to really think that one through, you just kept whining that they were doing too much damage and one-shotting people. You filled the boards with hate threads. I suppose all the vitriol in the forums/chats contributed to that knee-jerk content change reaction that Cryptic devs are now infamous for. And for several mods the TR became the most undesirable class in dungeons. That change also gave birth to the perma-stealth TR that plagues PvP even today, and looking back we now realize that it was actually stealth that was the problem. Imagine that.
You wanted GWFs buffed, and when the devs asked for testing you asked for more and more and more buffs (I distinctly remember several very long threads from players claiming that ACT was telling them that the changes were not enough) which led to the great Mod3 PvP whining flood.
You wanted DCs changed, because lifesteal was beating your healing. You wanted REAL healers. You were angry and you filled the forums with "I want a true healer" threads. And so Regen/Potions were nerfed, LS was changed, and now there are two distinct healer paths and one buff/debuff/DPS path. But it's not enough. Now you want the DC class changed again so it has better solo potential. Essentially you are asking for some variation of the old DC back.
You wanted CWs changed, but when the changes were proposed you did you damndest to argue that the changes were unfair. Unsurprisingly CWs ended up buffed that mod. Queue endless PvP whining.
    And the list goes on.
It makes sense that devs are very wary around player-proposed changes.

Nowadays though it seems the devs are proceeding at their own pace and are somehow managing to juggle just the right combination of player input and changes that they think is best for the game, regardless. It remains to be seen if the trend continues, but yeah I'd say they're doing a decent job so far.
I just wish they interacted more with the player base and told us what they were doing about major issues. Those of us who are observant of such things and who have been here a while know that Cryptic has a way of approaching such issues in the most oblique way possible. One mod the issue is there, and suddenly it's just not. It's funny because people who obviously take the game too seriously just seem to forget about the issue entirely and move on to something else (whiners will always be whiners). It's very amusing for those of us who do keep track.
Anyway the devs love subtlety, apparently, but the game is full of wild conspiracy theories and its getting annoying. It's affecting new players and it has to stop.

You there. New to the game? Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you think getting to end-game is impossible for a casual player like yourself, or maybe you just need to be around a community that helps each other stay sane and competitive with the latest news, current trends, random chitchat and most of all LEGIT (that is, we try to keep things fair) gameplay. If you don't mind being around quirky people and the rare occasional drama (one of our prominent TR members is apparently a mafia godfather) join nw_legit_community at http://www.nwlegitcommunity.shivtr.com/forum_threads/2330542.

The dungeons have not been around for more than six months now, this is not something that has been just a recent thing, they have not taken strides at all, the opposite is true. There are also no signs that they will ever bring them back, all they are doing is adding more heroic encounters mods, how many mods will it take before they return the dungeons, and if they cannot accomplish that then its nigh on impossible to create new dungeons.

Its surreal that this is even being debated, they removed a big amount of game content and they are seemingly uniterested to fixing this.

Thank you for the constructive post. Amazing how many people don't want to be constructive and just want to throw around their opinion as fact. I've been watching these forums for years and just never had the energy to combat the flamers. I'm in a great guild and our forums act as a safe haven from that kind of stuff, but I hate to see new players get turned off by people whose hobby it is to spread negativity, so I felt that I had to post something from our point of view. Flame away.

I'm on the same page as grifter. I have only been around since sometime in mod 5, but so far so good for me. I took a break shortly after EE was released, because even though as got my favorite class to play, that was just an unmitigated disaster. I didn't go screaming on the forums, I just closed the program and didn't open it again for a while. I came back when they released stronghold, not expecting much. I was somewhat pleasantly surprised, although the guild I was in prior was pretty much gone. Not a problem for me, I ran alone as a HR most of the time anyway. Within 3 days, I was in a dungeon with a pug group, and rather than kick me, a few players took the time to explain that the changes to how to equip, since all of mine was pretty much mod 5 stuff. I am now a member of these people's guild and I have to say, playing with a predominantly Aussie guild is the best experience I have had in an online game, and I have been doing this since Ultima Online launched in 1998.

As for having the dungeons back, I woukd love to have them back, but I have patience because I know how software development works, and you always have more to do than resources available, especially on software that relies on people to purchase ingame, rather than a subscription model.

So maybe cut the devs some slack, I can guarantee they are working as hard as they can.
