Shard of Valindra's Crown artifact...poor description or simply useless?

The wording is inexact but close enough: "When casting, you are immune to damage and cannot be controlled." This is a lie...I've been killed I can't count HOW many times by dragons in the stronghold event while casting. Either update the language on the item or actually enable this power as described.

    Really? Ive always been immune to damage whilst casting.

    It doesn't seem to work with me. Now, my main DC has several sources of injury immunity, particularly at the start of a fight, but he's been killed with the Shard equipped while in the middle of casting any number of spells at the blue dragon in Strongholds. I've noticed that I'm taking damage from more mundane sources as well when I'm in the animation of casting.

    Oooooh, Its when using the artifact - the hand swipe power of the artifact. During that you are immune, not any power/encounter that you use.

    If that's the case, then the description is very poor.

    Really? I wouldn't think so - the text is all under the 'Use' sub heading. To me that means that affect only occurs whilst you are using the Artifact's power.

    I'd agree w/ the op in that the word "casting" doesn't fit with the intent "using an artifact". Perhaps "immune while activating" would've been clearer. I'd agree w/confused in that I understood the intent of the on-use effect from the description.

    Agreed, this is most unfortunate. The DC is a caster class and the tooltip does say that when he will cast, he will be immune to damage and cc. Which is a lie. At least, the tooltip should say "while casting it" or "while the artifact procs"
    Hopefully the deceiving is not deliberate.

    If this was how the artifact worked, then every single character that "casts" something would want this and it would be the most OP artifact out there. I still don't understand how you can misinterpret this line - it only offers immunity whilst the casting effect of the artifact plays. The animation itself is exceptionally long, hence the immunity.

    No deception from the devs.
