Our guild founder wishes to leave the guild for another guild. Is this possible without disbanding the guild. We heard that he couldn't leave and are worried that if he does we will lose the guild and what has been built up.
Should be possible. Our founder left the guild a long time ago and has promoted others to be guild leader.
Probably he first needs to promote one other player to highest rank (so there is one who can do all the important things only the leader can do) and has to demote himself to a lesser rank.
i have my own guild and made my alt the leader when my main wanted to take a hike from the guild...

On a side note, if the guild founder abandons the guild, I have heard that customer service will promote the highest-ranking member to guild leader after the founder has not logged in for some period of time, which I believe was 30 days when it happened to my former guild.

Yes, though he may want to promote someone first.

If he is gone for a long time (60 days I think) the option to promote the next highest in rank will appear. That's what happened to my first guild. If he can raise another one to leader, so much the better.
CS will not promote someone if the leader abandons. If a guild had no rank 7 for a period of 30 days or something (might be 2 weeks? I don't recall now), a rank 6 (it may be random, or it may be the one who has been in the guild longest - don't know) will automatically be promoted.

Customer service did that back when it happened to the guild I was in. They may well have automated it now, though.
It's automatic after a period of time. As someone else suggested you'll get an option to take control of the guild if you're the highest rank left. I inherited a guild that way when everyone else abandoned Neverwinter for Elder Scrolls. Best if the current leader promotes someone else to Leader before he leaves.
