Spitting Distance from 70 ... questions!

chestnut13chestnut13 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 176 Arc User
Almost finished the 60 to 70 slog, ready to do full respec (staying WK), and had some questions:

1. Is Burning Gear best option for PVP?
2. My old build has lots of Regen ... is Life Steal now a better option?
3. I asked this in another thread but answers were nebulous ... value to shoot for in ARP? I used to maintain around 2800 ... what value is a good target?
4. My old build was high Dex (26). Am I better off lowering that and adding in Strength or CHA? I have CON belt so I think I will be OK there.
5. I have a Greater Vorpal ... should I stay on that path or is it better to move to something else?
6. Any particular gear I should be aiming for immediately that will help either PVE or PVP?

Thanks in advance folks!

    1. Yes. The current BiS grade PvP gear is the Burning-tier. There's an 'Elemental Burning' tier which can be accessed through Blackice shaping, which is slightly more stronger than Burning-tier, but annoying to get your hands on.

    2. Regen is useless for combat purposes now. It just helps you recover out of combat.

    3. Case-by-case, IMO. IIRC most people have their Armpen resistance around 50~60% since that's the amount provided by Tenacity gear. So ideally, you'd probably be aiming to directly counter that with the same amount of Armpen. But in my case, even without that large an Armpen, my build and tactic still allows for amount of damage I'm content with, so in my case, I don't view it as being too important.

    4. Depends on what type of path/build/tactic you favor. Hard to tell you anything unless you can give us a sort of a 'vision' into what kind of TR you want to be. One thing for certain, is that thanks to the gear giving big HP bonuses, the importance of CON is certainly lower than before. Currently, 90k HP~120k HP is considered around acceptable. 80~90k HP is a bit low, but still manageable.

    5. Dump Vorpal. Vorpal bad in PvP now.

    6. Mainhand... offhand... neck... belt... 4x artifacts... personalized rings... basically everything. Cryptic made this game into a real P2W. Basically you need to get RP and refine everything.

Fair enough ... I haven't played in about 6 months. Have always been a WK Sab. I like to PVP and only pug. Back in Mod 5 always maintained 25 to 50ish page on leaderboard. My build focused on Deflection and Regen, high Dex, Con belt, hated CWs with a passion. See my role as team support but believe best results for me in PVP is a jack of all trades build that allows me to adjust to whatever pug I'm in and take the role that is most critical to the team's success. I prefer to be in the gank at 2 as DHS can debuff and dot so many players. Having said that, I have no problems in 1v1 or 1v2 and can hold my own if need be.

Your killing me with the Vorpal comment ... I worked so hard to get that thing ready to go perfect! Just had to dump my old useless Barkshield and bite the bullet for an Elven Battle. The refining I have to do is overwhelming.

Do my arti belts and cloaks from last mod need to be replaced as well?

There are Greater versions of each of the 60 belts from M5. It is best to get those and feed your old items into the new arti items. There are a few different builds that may be better for PvE and PvP. Speaking as a past Wk Sab and a present Wk Scoundrel... the build has limitations and works okay in some situations... but it is not a "jack of all trades" build.

My build has high Deflect, decent LS and I need more Recovery and I am working on it. In fact my Deflect is as high as my Defense... which gives me about 43%. I have just over 4k ArPen, mid 11k power and close to 5k Crit.

When I PvP... I know I am support and a back-capper. I will do what is needed to win... so a "jack of all trades".

In PvE there is nothing better than watching the mobs I am fighting halt their casting because they just got stunned. I once counted 8 times that my TR interrupted the spell-casting of Hexers and Enforcers. It adds an amount of survivablity that the other paths cannot offer.

1 yes til new t2 guild pvp come out next week

2 regen good only for aftermath battle now. life steal only starts to kick in after 12-20% not that helpful in pvp but it did saved my life a few times.

3 50-60% arp for pve for pvp the more the merrier

4 what ability score to choose man that depends on your build . fyi aim for the lostmauth set its a must for any dps class now.

5 vorpal is ok now but not best option. trans terror for tr can do miracle if you know what to do with it. feytouch also good and lightning too. i personally use trans bile its ok.

6 you reach 70? buy cheap pvp blue or green gear from ah. and aim go get the t1 gear first. find a nice guild that will be willing to carry you though those dungeons and skirmishs.

Can someone explain why vorpal is not good for pvp now? Is it due to avalanche or other reflective powers?
  • drkbodhidrkbodhi Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 2,378 Arc User
There is a link... somewhere. I believe that a player's DR has a lot to do with it... not so much the reflective powers or Avalanche. I could be wrong, but I am going off what I remember.

If you search the word Vorpal you may find the thread.

Well basically, it is because Vorpal enchants are hit by "double the effect" against Tenacity, due to the fact that Tenacity offers you; (a) increase in basic damage resistance, and (b) a second defensive factor which increases critical resistance -- and 'critical resistance' literally means your crit damage will not inflict the full damage as set forth by your crit severity.

It's not useless -- it still accounts for increase in damage in PvP, but it's not as noticeable as before... and while other weapon enchantments have powerful secondary effects, the Vorpal is almost entirely centered on a big crit damage increase (it does have a couple of other features but it's not much effective). So, people nowadays figure it's better use an enchantment that increases your damage somewhat AND also procs powerful effects (damage siphon... rooting... lightning arcs... etc etc..), rather than use Vorpal which now does 'slightly' more damage than other enchantments, but has no real 'goodies' attached to it.

Ok thanks for the info...shame I just go mine to perfect. I suppose it is still killer in pve.

Hrm I dunno maybe I'm fighting low tenacity chars or something, vorpal seems to do ok for me. Had feytouched, but went back to vorpal. Swapped out soulforged for negation, seem to live longer now.
