Stronghold Starter Pack PSA

putzboy78putzboy78 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 1,950 Arc User
Just to give everyone a heads up, there is a problem with a the Stronghold Start Pack. This pack comes with a new Runic Bag of Holding that is identified as Bind on Equip (BOE). However, if you open the pack on a character that does not have all five bag slots filled it will auto equip and therefore become Bound on Character (BOC).

I opened the pack on an inactive alt because my main is maxed out on Guild Marks so the vouchers would not get bound on my main. Now my bag is stuck on an inactive alt and my main is still juggling with how to carry the collected vouchers until I can spend some Guild Marks (currently I am juggling 34 stacks of SH currency in my preciously limited bag space).

I have contacted support and they have indicated there is nothing they can do to help resolve this issue. So I wanted to try and spread the word before others make similar mistakes. Caveat Emptor

As far as i know, all new bags you buy have acted this way since they made bags BoE they will auto equip if there is space for them.

oh... this explains why one of my guildies was shocked when the bag bounded to his char upon opening the pack.... I hope this gets fixed cus if it says BoE, then it should be clear that it should be Bind on Equip and the bag should not equip automatically... that's 600~700k of AD wasted.. quite a lot if you ask me....

at 500k ad per zen that would be 800,000 k ad bag. that's an epic mount for all your characters through zen market on sale. That's not a small investment to throw away. Maybe for people in the US or Europe that's a small amount of money but for those of us in mexico that's an expensive luxury to just throw away.

That is PWE's way of saying "buy or get your own bags before starting trading them".I know it is nasty but most of marketing is a nasty business.Buy dragon cult packs(Dont know if other smaller ones work) from AH and put them on your empty slots.Unfortunately, this is the best way of dealing that problem for now.

The joke "bags of holes" are no good at holding anything but can be equipped in spare bag spaces to prevent this problem. They are available very cheaply from the AH. But, yes, that should not be necessary. All bags should BtA in my view so you can freely move them between toons but not be able to sell them on.

Hot Tip: If you're running out of space, create a guild for yourself using your alt toon and unlock the first bank repository for 150K AD............now thats a lot of space

Supposedly you can use the Bag of Holes to fill the empty slots, and the bag won't bind. I haven't tried it.

This is just a half-butt implemented change because bag sales were slow I guess. Everything else that binds ASKS you if you want to bind it (and support will tell you "It asked you and you said yes, now go away". Why not the bags and seriously, why auto-equip the bags in the first place?

Been a bug in my opinion for a while and I doubt they will fix it because they profit from it.

Since they spend the effort to do that intentionally, it is not a bug. It is worse than a bug.

I don't think they did this intentionally. Bags always auto equipped if you had a slot. They just forgot to remove that feature when they made bags BoE....and have ignored the issue ever since (which could be intentional because it makes them money in their eyes - which in reality, it probably costs them).

Yes it happened to me as well. Turned out to be useful anyway, but what a let down to have your support ticket come back and say its essentially players fault / mismanagement / mistake.

I brought this issue up with @strumslinger who, hopefully, will bring it up with the devs. I agree that now that bags are BoE, they should not auto-equip. :(

Thank you! Because so far support has said

    we cannot unbind the item

I asked if it was possible to give me a runic bag bound to the proper character and delete the one on the wrong character

the response was that they cannot refund the zen

Putzboy, even if the devs agree that bags should not autobind when you get them, you are not going to get that bound bag unbound and moved. Fixes do not work retroactively.

o i know, plus fixes typically make things worse in the long run. But if i don't ask there is no chance of them resolving the core issue.

Last time I asked support for help it was because I got a "Item is Busy" error when trying to put a rank 7 enchant in the second Offense Slot of my Audacity of Golden Dragon. Then the rank 7 enchant was gone. I opened a ticket and they restored the rank 7 enchant; however, in that process they moved all of my active companions to my inventory (not my idle companion bag. It wouldn't let me summon them, move them to the idle companion bag, or anything. After five days of back and forth and me playing without my expensive companions I was advised to BUY a rename on my companions and that would make them able to summon them again. So i spent 30k AD on renaming companions as a workaround to a support mistake. On a bright note I have never seen the "Item is Busy" error again so I'd like to think that me taking the time to address it led to a fix.

So hopefully by me following up on this item and letting everyone know the issue it contributes to a fix

I believe the word you're looking for is "misfeature".

@Venture-1 @Venture from City of Heroes if you remember that far back. Yes, *that* Venture. Yes, I probably trashed your MA arc. For me it was Tuesday.

The official response is that they cannot do anything if your zen purchase was made by zen purchased in game. In case anyone was wondering.

It's irrelevant really, posting a comment in a months? years? old patch notes shouldn't override the current description of the item. I'm certain they've had adequate time to update the description. If they haven't by now its because it's a low priority item that exploiting the customers and earning them additional income.

What I believe happened was an oversight by the devs. They only recently made the bags bind on equip, however the bags have always auto-equipped. I'm bugging Andy about it again today.

Pretty sure the change was months ago now, and they were told prior to implementing the change, and immediately afterwards, that this would be a problem. I'm no programmer, but I can't fathom that making bags not auto-equip would be that hard. Filler work on a Friday night at best.

Or just make the bags bind to account like they really should be, and be done with it. Can't imagine this change really enticed that many people to buy additional bags (except whales and exploiters). What binds and doesn't really needs an overhaul, cause it rarely makes sense and the number of different bind statuses just cause problems anyways.
