[PC] Patching Why oh Why?

Okay so the game checks and loads patches when you first launch the PC client. After it does that the game loads and you pick your toon and start playing and sometimes it will load more patches. Then you get in the game and enter an area and guess what..... more patches are loaded..
My question is why? Why not have it do all this patch loading and updating at the main client? Instead of me having to see load screen after load screen? In some cases I'm sitting waiting for a patch to load for a quest only to find out ive been kicked from a group because of it! (Happened to me 2 times in the last 3 months)

You have On-Demand patching turned on. Turn it off to avoid this.

This has been a problem since beta. On demand patching should be removed. It'd solve a lot of issues.

It does become a problem for people with slower connections and/or bandwidth caps. It helps not having to download a massive amount just to start playing.

It's not really a "problem". It's a convenience feature for some. Understandably, it can be an annoyance for others, but it's simple enough to disable.

Turning it off will make you download all the files, but once you have them no more loading.

Learning how to turn that feature off was one of the best things I ever did!

I don't see the point, tbh. Even if I had the slowest connection ever, I'd just wait till it was all downloaded rather than have it spoil my gameplay - just like with every other game. Massive download, you just have to grin and bear it. But that's got to be better than being held up actually IN the game.

But as you say, it's easy enough to disable. However, since newcomers don't know about it, it'd be nice for the default setting to be OFF rather than ON. Some people might give up on the game not knowing this is switchable, thinking that this is the way it's always going to be.

I am using patch on demand and its pretty convenient. Not to mention its an easing to the patchserver.
