Can we have a free month of VIP for all players?

We have put up with an awful lot with Mod6, and for those of us that stuck it out, a token of appreciation might go a long way to mend fences as well as sell folks on what VIP offers. Too much to ask? I think not.

There is nothing unrealistic about free trials or doing something nice for the community that supports your game.

God, no. You know who has tons of accounts? Exploiters and botters. You know who would get 30 free keys per account if they gave everyone free VIP for a month? Exploiters and botters.

Guess who has infinite resources to purchase VIP and will anyway? You guessed it.

Now that I think about it, keeping it out of the hands of botters shouldn't be hard. Just make it accounts at least 60 days old at the time the promotion is announced and have gotten at least 2 boons earned on a character or something along those lines. That should get exclude most of them.

You expect them to put a bottleneck on what may potentially be their most reliable revenue source? And do it in a way that would DISCOURAGE new players?

Absolutely not. But if not allowing botters to take advantage of it is a concern, there are ways to mitigate that. Personally I don't care about the botters because like it or not they are part of the ecosystem. I'm on the fence about this VIP thing as I'm sure many are. Given a chance to try it out might make me a customer. As for your bottleneck reference, I'm not sure what you mean by that. All the folks who could buy it before would still be able to.

So, because they're just going to buy VIP on all their accounts anyway, we should just give it to them for free?

Botters don't have infinite resources for VIP access. Even if they had infinite AD, they have to wait in the queue as long as anyone else.

The big downside to this whole mess, as far as I can see, is that we can expect the queue to remain in the millions, to the extent that getting zen for AD may be impossible. But, this has little to do with botters to begin with.

Remember: every 1000 zen was paid for with real live cash somewhere. Even if the botters are the one using VIP access (which while they can, certain unique aspects of how VIP works are somewhat discouraging to botters, but probably not enough), they are in effect contributing to the game. Because someone somewhere bought that 1000 zen with real live dollars, and got the corresponding half a million AD in return for it.

I'd rather they add a free appearance change to the Caturday Cloak...

Not gonna happen. The VIP program is just the latest attempt to wring some cash out of a declining and disillusioned player pool so why would they give it away for free?

The VIP programe, as most are in games, is there to generate cash. I'd imagine they will give out tasters eventually, Neverwinter are quite decent with their giveaways. However, introductions of these sorts are the biggest generater of money because everyone wants to be the first to experience and benefit from these programs, so I doubt they'll look at giving it away for free anytime soon.

You do get a free month of VIP. It's in the Zen Market and you buy it with Zen. After converting the FREE Astral Diamonds you've earned into FREE Zen you can buy it. That was easy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were already thinking of doing this, just for one weekend or something. What better way to whet people's appetite?

I agree with OP 100% on this, for me there are currently too many points, which seems unclear/useless or gives me head aches ( like HP buff in PVP...), so a free trial would/could clear those misunderstandings.

    Spot on!

As i see, current model favors those botters/ exploiters more and excludes decent people more. The idea itself isn't bad at all, but needs fixing here and there.

Not fair to give free free rank points to everyone it is meant to be for VIP players and making it too easy will make it useless.

It is fine the way it is
There are more than BIS players in this game
RIP Real Tiamat, RIP Real Demogorgon RIP real Temple of the spider. Why remove non bis content to give to bis players ????
FORCING the majority of your player base to play 4 mod old dungeons and trial will have a bad result on player base
Changes are getting so bad i would rather prefer no new changes (RIP ICE FISHING in winter fest)

I have to say I'm surprised with the reactions of some folks here. First off, most players won't get to try this due to a zax backup that will only get worse, and at this point many of us are done tossing cash at the game until we are shown the value of that investment moving forward. Maybe Strongholds will be simply awesome and put folks more at ease with that, but if you have been paying ANY attention to these forums since M6 came out there is no way you haven't noticed the level of angst directed at Cryptic and parent PWE over their many anti-player changes to the game. This means of the folks who haven't left us forever, many are sitting on that fence waiting to see Cryptic's next move. Will it be pro-player commiseration to stem the tide of exodus or more of the same?

That said, I'm glad there are still so many supporters that will toss their money at the game in spite of all that has happened. Hopefully a cash infusion will soften Cryptic's stance on some of the more terrible decisions they have made to drive business in the cash shop.

Here's the thing: You don't need to be a VIP player to benefit from the VIP program.

"What the !@#$ are you talking about TheyCallMeTomu?" Okay, first, there's no need to use my full metamonniker, you can just call me Tomu (unless you don't want to be one of them.) Secondly, the VIP program's real effect on the game is twofold:

1.) Lockbox items will be dropped far more commonly, because there's so many more keys.
1a.) Ergo, more people will post lockbox items on the AH.
1b.) Ergo, the PRICE of lockbox items, in terms of AD, will fall.

2.) At higher VIP levels, the Wondrous Bazaar % cut is greater than the 10% cut the AH takes.
2a.) Ergo, a person can buy something at -25% cost, then sell it at -15% cost on the AH, and make a profit.
    2b.) Ergo, a person will.
    2c.) Ergo, multiple people will.
2d.) Ergo, prices of WB items will drop.

The mere existence of the VIP pass basically amounts to a drastic price cut in lockbox items, and a 15% cut in wondrous bazaar items for non-VIP pass players, and a 25% price cut (and chance to make a profit) for the high tier VIP players.

You don't need to spend a penny in order to appreciate the new VIP system.

frankly, ill be blasted if im going to pour more money into a broken game. i have no problem buying in game stuff at all (ive bought pretty much all of the packs available to date, and used to spend my entire entertainment budget per month on it for upgrade materials).
i do have a problem with the idea of "VIP" being added in. for one its insulting to the idea of F2P. for another its just lame. stacking on another reason to dump cash into things. for myself, the more required it is to pay for things just to be able to function, the less im going to spend. theres plenty of games available for monthly subscriptions that not only cost less, but dont get shuffled around, nerfed or otherwise rendered valueless with each module release.
as it stands now the only item of value from the original packs is the account wide mounts (though an argument could be made for the companions). i know darn good and well that if i pay into the vip structure that it is going to get nerfed or invalidated eventually. how do i know this? everything else has.
i cant just set myself up a monthly budget to spend in game trusting that what im paying for is what im going to have six months or a year later. thus, im just not going to spend any at all. no value in it for me.
note: i use value to mean return on the investment in game through either long term usage or reliable usage over time.

I got my orders from after vip was announced. Also strongholds is a MASSIVE ad sink, I expect the backlog to go down a LOT at some point if not relatively quickly. Lastly I disagree with your last point :D

Ok, so you hope Cryptic making money off of this drives them to INCREASE the number of things they do to drive cash shop sales by making things feel overly difficult and time consuming without them. Interesting point of view. Thanks so much for sharing.

FWIW I still have a pile of Zen from a previous promotion so the backlog doesn't really affect me should I decide to do the VIP thang. I just know many players without the zen reserves that do want to buy it (each to their own I guess) and are frustrated seeing that backlog go up and up.

As long as there's a price cap on AD, there's going to be a backlog.

The idea behing the ZAX is that someone somewhere is willing to pay real dollars for X amount of AD. But as long as there's a cap, that X amount of AD may be insufficient for what anyone's willing to pay.

Players shouldn't just expect to be able to get zen when there's a price cap.

Oh they are just burning through saved up AD. They need a way to get people to use it up so the economy normalizes. This way they can take it out of circulation.
