Hi,

I changed to a new laptop, and my game crashes while loading the sharandar map. I'm unable to test this to other map, as its the first map loading (besides PE) I've done on this new laptop. I've re-install the game through ARC , setting all graphics and display to minimum settings, but still the game crashes on the loading screen with the following error messages:

Fatal Error: Direct3D driver returned error code (DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED) while creating texture.
Technical Details: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED while creating RTEX_2D texture size 512x512 (10mips,RTEX_DXT1, usage 4, Mgd Y, GS N)D3D11 Device removed due to DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG 0x887a0006.

Here is my laptop spec :
OS : Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit
Processor : Intel Core i5-5300 CPU @2.30GHz
Memory : 8GB RAM
DirectX Version : DirectX 11
Graphic : Intel HD Graphics 5500 4GB Memory

I've tried launching the game in Safe Mode, it still doesnt stop the crash. Please help.

I will try to help you the best I can. Let me start by giving you a bit of information regarding those errors.

The DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED refers to the following "The video card has been physically removed from the system, or a driver upgrade for the video card has occurred."

The DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG refers to the following "The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is an design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed."

Honestly to me this sounds like a driver issue. What is happening is the game is sending a command to your graphics processor that it is currently unable to interpret therefore the game crashes as it doesn't receive a response. You can try updating the driver for the Intel HD 5500. Sometimes pre-loaded graphics drivers only contain the base instruction sets which are required for Windows to run and play videos.

Another thing you can try if you haven't done so already is take advantage of the free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Window 10. Windows 10 has a lot more versatility when it comes to hardware support. It also runs smoother and actually has a start menu. It also has a tablet mode if you have a touch screen and like that kind of feature. I have been using Windows 10 for a few months now due to being an insider however it was officially released yesterday. So might check that out too.

Worst case scenario is the graphics chipset in your laptop cannot process the games commands. While rare anymore this does still happen as most manufacturers don't have gaming in mind when they build them.

Here is a link to the drivers for your graphics chipset in that laptop. They are official Intel drivers from Intel.

Intel HD 5500 Drivers: Drivers for HD 5500 directly from Intel

Hope this helps, please let me know if this works for you.

Thanks for the reply.. I've updated the latest driver for my graphic.. but it doesnt resolve the issue.. Here's the workaround i got from cryptic. It does resolve my issue.

    1. Launch the game launcher
    2. Click "Options" at the upper-right area of the launcher
    3. Look for "Safe Mode" and check it
    4. Scroll down to "Command Line"
    5. Enter: -d3d11Enable 0
    6. Click the "Save button" and launch the game
    7. Go to the game's video settings
    8. Then select "DirectX9" as your default
    9. Exit the game
    10. Launch the game again (ensure the Command Line in step #5 is still there)

Just to let people know that windows 10 is pretty awesome but right now is not game friendly. Ive been playing this game just fine on windows 7 and 8.1 but when I upgrades to windows 10 the game keeps crashing with this same error code, and all my drivers are up to date with windows 10 drivers. With windows 10 i think its because it forces you to use directx12 if your card can.

It's not Windows 10 related as far as your graphics are concerned. It's something to do with your GFX card/chip manufacturer and the driver they released. It's more likely that your GFX driver isn't properly interpreting the commands sent by the game which could even be interpretations for DirectX. That work around may work for you but it's also just a work around. I would suggest sending the information to the manufacturer so they can start working on a fix.

I have tested Neverwinter Online along with several other games on Windows 10 with the following Graphics Cards and most recent drivers available for them. All work with no problems.

    Nvidia GTX 780
    Nvidia GTX 750
    ATI Radeon HD 6870

I have similar Direct3D driver returned error code crashes after installing a new graphics card. I was running win 7 with a gtx 570 with no probs (except for poor graphic detail) for months. I updraded to the new Radeon R9 390X and crash every 5 mins of play in both win 7 and win 10 equally. This was also experienced with the box driver and the most recent driver. I'm sure it is a driver issue from the graphics processor and not a windows problem.

To correct myself, and share what I've learned since my last post ... the main problem I was having, and I'm sure many others are as well, is with DirectX. This game doesn't currently support anything above DX9. The new vid card I recently installed supports DX12 and when first entering the game had great detail and palyability for about 5 mins at a time before it crashed. I experimented with different settings to no avail until after changing the in game DX setting to 9.

That fixed the crash issue. However, to play at DX9 rendering I had to scale back all my graphics settings to a crappy level in order to get a playable framerate. So basically I am driving a Ferrari on a go-cart track and have to drive slowly. Please Devs add higher DX compatibility to the game or you will lose more players.

Hello. My name is Drew and I am having the same problem. I am using Windows 10 and I cannot get passed the Direct 3D error. I do not know what video card I have. I am going to uninstall NW until this issue is resolved.
