Artifacts for Character Sheet

How, when and where might I find Artifacts? Just turned lvl 50 and wondered. I inspect like characters and noticed two and some with three.

Educate me...

    You can get your first Artifact for free from a quest called Artifact Recovery. Here is the NW wiki page for that quest.

    After that, as far as I know, you need to do dungeon runs (I think epic level dungeons) and collect Shards. 4 shards makes a Lesser Artifact. Or, you can find artifacts and/or shards in the Auction House.

    Shards don't make artifacts. They make weapon and armor enchantments. Artifacts come from lock boxes (the ones you open with keys that cost zen), from dragons in heroic encounters (rothe valley and whispering caverns), in epic lostmauth, the shores or tueren, Tiamat drops the orb. All of these are extremely rare to receive except maybe tiamat. Most people buy them from the auction house. You can find them under equipment, listed for crazy prices.

    Yes, I was wrong about that :)

    I know I'm right about getting the one from the quest though.

    Epic dungeons drop some too, at least I saw 1-2 drop in few t2's.

    I've got 3 artifacts luckily. My first (lantern) I got from the Artifact Recovery Quest, the second (Shopkeeper/Book thing) I got from a dungeon drop (Karrundax I think) and my third (Rod of Imperial Restraint) I got from the Rothe Valley Dragon Heroic Encounter. That one was really lucky as I've only had two other things drop from dragons (dragon bone stuff) before or since.

    You'd do well to buy the Orb if you can afford it as it's not too bad and its fairly cheap in the Trade House as everyone's running Tiamat now so lots are dropping.

    I will check the TH later today. I am working on gear for my now lvl60 DC. Don't have enough Astral but working on that.

    Not exactly a character sheet question... But, what should I be aware of about the artifact weapon acquired from the ToD campaign? I see the prereq's. Will there be a number of tries at the campaign, or wham bam you have it?

    You get one of 5 randomly. If its the one you want, wham!if not, try again. If you salvage it it gets you a shard. The mission you run to get it nets you another shard. So if you run it 3 times and dont get what you want you have enough shards to buy it.

    Ah, ok. So hopefully I will get the desired bow for my HR on the first try. I find out later today. The time delays are agonizing!

    I've seen artifacts drop in Epic Pirates Keep certainly. Like any random dungeon drop for something good, that's a lot of luck though. Seems the "easiest" way though with some degree of success is to beat Tiamat a number of times, and hopefully by the time you amass enough Linu's Favor to get the artifact offhand (and/or Draconic Templar Armor bits etc) you'll have the Orb. That they sell for 110K or so (last time I looked) suggests there is a pretty good chance to get one that way. Also for 24K glory, you can buy an artifact in the PvP Trade of Blades store.

    Yeah, I have been able to receive 3 Tiamat Orbs between my two characters in a total of maybe 30-35 wins between them. So they drop pretty often, I also got my offhand for both of them during those runs as well so you can do that rather reliably.

    I recommend the lantern from the artifact quest as it seems to be one of the more expensive ones and provides DPS boosts for large single target fights.

    So I opened my first Artifact chest and received the Golden Dragon's Tooth. Then later in the night open ten lock boxes and was awarded the Waters of Elah'zad. Not a bad night. From the campaign task I open another two tonight, one again for my HR and the other for my Rogue.
