Damaran Shepherd, how it is compared to a normal dog?

  A regular dog, at max level will give you a +25 Arm Pen bonus, while a Damaran Shepard will give you +100 crit strike, and summoned will give you +2% crit chance.

  The damaran shepherd is actually pretty useful upgraded to epic. Not as your main companion, but for the active bonus it provides to your summoned companion (10% critical chance), plus 400 crit to you. I upgraded mine and don't regret it one bit.

  The Damaran shepherd, from the SCA tutorial, is actually quite good - it gives you +100 crit and the summoned companion +3% chance to crit.

  Dog only give you armor penetration
  
  Damaran give you critical strike. The 2 % of critical chance only works in your companion, like the Boar and your critical severity.
