So, I spent over 700k AD on the Auction House and purchased . . . nothing.
Step by step:
1) I searched the AH for Steel Crucibles
2) I purchased the first, cheapest Steel Crucible on the list
3) I clicked the next Steel Crucible on the list to purchase it
4) The game informed me in red letters that my purchase had failed. The terminology was something along the lines of the Auction House being unavailable.
5) I assumed that the item had been purchased just prior to my attempt to do so. I clicked on the next Steel Crucible to purchase it.
6) I was given the same error message as described in step 4
7) I continued attempting to purchase Steel Crucibles, assuming that I was not being charged for a failed purchase attempt, and continued to get the same error message as described in step 4
8) After multiple attempts to purchase I finally gave up. At this point I noticed that my AD count had gone from just under 800k, to roughly 20k, and I only had one Steel Crucible to show for all those Astral Diamonds.
Those lost Astral Diamonds came directly from Zen, which came directly from my credit card.
They're still missing. So far Customer Support has offered me a giant F-You by suggesting that I am lying, which is why I'm looking for others that have experienced this issue. I am not lying. An error in the AH took my AD but did not reward me the Steel Crucibles I bid on. I'm a tad miffed at this point, if that's not obvious.

They have logs of what happened with your character -- tell them you want to see proof in the logs of how you are lying and if not you want your character rolled back a day or so.
Their logs only show one Steel Crucible purchased and "other" AH bids. Apparently my buyout attempts do not show up. Their logs also show, according to Customer Support, that I never had more than 300,000 AD at any given time. That is just not accurate as I had put $100 into a Zen purchase, converted a portion of that into AD (I had about 800,000 AD), and then proceeded to unknowingly throw away AD on this error. It's because of this that I'm looking for someone else who has ran into this error.
Due to the innaccuracy of their logs I have no evidence. The most frustrating thing is I have been, admittedly, a wallet warrior. I've spent almost $1000 on this game. Customer Support is now suggesting that I am lying about this error to gain approximately $40 in AD.

just quick idea. i know its stupid but perhaps worth asking. did u withdraw ad from sell zen window and transfer it to character?

Thanks for the question, hogt. I quoted myself because I edited my response while you were quoting me. No, I do not have AD sitting in the AD/ Zen exchange.
I've written a letter to snail mail to the mother office. I will post another ticket. Hopefully I don't get the same "Support" agent. That person smiled while telling me to go screw.

Or you can always reverse the transaction. The game is so buggy that loosing money/AD is so easy you wouldnt put any money into it if u knew it in the first place. If they cannot find out what happened from the logs then suprise, its another bug.

Well, hopefully Support comes to their senses and considers this as a possibility. It's insane to treat a customer who pays so well with such contempt.
They sure as hell should have an accurate log of your zen/cash transactions -- if not you should consider getting credit card company to refund your account due to non-delivery of purchased goods (zen).
Their logs do not reflect accurately how much AD I had in the first place, but even if their numbers were correct (they said I only ever had 300,000 AD, even though I'd exchanged enough Zen into AD to have around 800,000 AD the same day as this error occurred), your question would still be valid. Where indeed did that AD go? I bought one item that didn't sell for more than 60k AD (I can't remember exact price, but well under 100k), I had around 800k AD (300k according to their infallible records), and shortly after that one successful purchase I had around 30k AD. Continued errors drained my AD bank account.
"Customer Support" has suggested I am lying (and did so with a smile) and has now chosen to stop responding to my emails. I hope no one else runs into this error, but I sure could use the voices of others who have experienced this error.
Edit: I just realized you asked "where do the logs say the zen was spent?". My answer still applies, only altered to read "Where indeed did that Zen go?"

Zen delivered but stolen, ask for a refund from your credit card company. Its about time these bugs get corrected and the only way is if they start losing money. Its theft and the programming error doesnt justify it.
Maybe a Moderator could suggest a way I could go up the food chain in Customer Support on this? I tried sending another ticket to avoid dealing with the same Support person who's currently ignoring me, but received the response that it was a duplicate and therefore deleted (understandable, I'd do the same). I am not trying to steal anything from this company, I just want to get back what an error within this game took from me. Hell, I'm not even complaining about the error itelf, all games have them, the problem is I spent real money to purchase AD and an error within the game took that AD/ real money.
Their logs do not address the failed Auction House buyout attempts, and do not accurately reflect the amount of AD I had (according to Customer Support), but a simple look at how much Zen I purchased with real money, where I spent a decent sum of that Zen, and how much AD disappeared after one succesful AH buyout of a relatively low cost item should be evidence enough.
I'm sorry if I'm ranting. The contempt I've been treated with thus far has me a bit tweaked.

I can't "correct" their error by getting a refund. I spent $100 on Zen and received $100 worth of Zen. The amount of AD I lost to the in-game error comes to less than $50. By reversing the charges on that purchase I am stealing. I will not do that.
I did submit a ticket yesterday because I had 400K go missing. I have had the error you describe many times and never had an issue. And yesterday I did NOT buy anything so but was looking in the AH which is disturbing. It's possible my problem was a bad or mistaken punch of a gateway button but I would swear I was careful and did not. What comes to mind in your case is a time when I thought I had got AD from the exchange but did not. I am sure you have checked but I always have to double check the obvious because I shock myself often. Anyway comiseration and maybe a me too for the record in case.

Much better to let them "get away with" the same behavior exhibited time and again with others?
Think of it as a fine or penalty. If one simply allows their continous mismanagement one participates through default.

Well, hopefully you get better results than I did. Their records do not show that I had failed purchase attempts in the Auction House, nor do they show an accurate representation of the amount of AD I had prior to those purchase attempts. As such, so-called Customer Support refuses to look at the amount of Zen I'd purchased with real money, where I immediately spent a portion of that Zen (on an exchange for AD), and where that AD then went (which was into an error within the Auction House). Because their records do not accurately show the amount of AD I had, and becasue they've refused to do any research into their error, it has been assumed that I am a liar and am trying to steal from the company. The good news is it will easy for me to refrain from spending any more money on this game. I've spent too much already. Besides, ESO is a fun game . . .
I've recently had similar things happen and it's quite frustrating. Thankfully is wasn't NEAR as much as 400k in AD, but still enough to have me pretty perturbed.
I purchased an entire set of draconic gear for my trickster rogue, equipped it all and then purchased the exact same thing for my sons hunter/ranger. I left the gear in my mail slot for probably 8 hours or so for him to hit 60. Wellvhevdidvladt night about 1:35am. So I went to the mail box, pulled out the 8 pieces of gear I purchased for his class and the game lagged out then came back 30 seconds later and every thing went in fast forward mode for about 5 seconds till everything seemed caught up. I looked in my inventory to start passing gear, and NOTHING moved over to my inventory. I thought nothing of it and opened mailbox again, to find NOTHING in my mailbox. Not even the messages you get when leveling to 60 that have been there since I started... I've tried everything, it is all just gone...
I contact arc, they clearly need help as they asked for exact names of everything..which I have them EVERYTHING, even time stamps they could easily reference within 10 minutes of the incident... To only get a response back that I need to link my gamer tag to get help...!!!? I linked day one, not only does my arc account show it, but I have the illusionist companion in my inventory all leveled up from linking. Now the person helping me (Claymore) is failing to respond ...is this normal??
www.BBB.org search Perfect World Entertainment in California and submit a claim there. You may get more desired results as they do not want blemishes on their accreditation. Good Luck.

Does that mean they were returned to your mailbox or that you already tried that but they're still missing?
