One Player's Feedback

I have been playing for over year. This year I have slowed and nearly stopped playing because of lag and other game issues (some broken features and disagreeable game mechanics).

I enjoyed Neverwinter when I first started playing. I see that some think the game has improved but honestly I don't see how.

The game has more broken mechanics than it did when I started playing. There are more bugs it seems (can't be certain) and broken quests than there were when I started playing.

When I first started playing it was during the winter festival, actually I think i started shortly before but I think my main toon wasn't even level 20 when it started. I got my first taste at the "grind". Admittedly I enjoyed running around doing those events, which I think were more fun and enjoyable than the summer ones.

Fast forward and I learn about the dungeon grind for gear, repeated runs to get set pieces and so much more killing just to get enchantment drops. But this was all tolerable to a point.

Fast forward and now we have artifact gear. OMG you created something so annoying that it makes most players cringe but made a "Few" happy that they could spend tons of money to have orange HAMSTER on their character sheet and pretty much dominate pvp and probably pve (although I can't say how many orange wearing people i've seen that didn't appear to play well at all).

You then had to fix the RP system because it was just over burdensome, then you had to fix it some more because refining 5 items at a time could take some people all night or even week to finish up if they saved up a bunch and didn't do it as they went.

Now you have had to add RP to daily quests to get people do even have a chance at refining reasonably and to actually get people to do something in the game again.

However as pretty much with everything before you have had done before either it was abused or you just deemed yourselves overly generous have changed things so that once again people find its not really worthwhile to do.

This players feedback is:

I'm not happy with how the game is being managed and implemented. An RP system might be fine IF it were more thought out and better implemented. Frankly i'd much rather see you take up more reasonable suggestions such as making artifact gear XP based and maybe as such encourage more impatient people to buy XP boosts. Want to level your gear faster? Do more quests that give XP rewards, enchants that give xp boost in your utility slots. Anything would be better than the carple tunnel inducing RP system you have that does NOTHING but ENCOURAGE botting. You want to encourage playing?? Then stick to XP based systems. RP systems are for abusers and botting.

I don't even think I can make comments on PVP in a manner that would be constructive, but I can say its VERY unsatisfying.

What happened to story line? Not that it was ever strong in this game, but at least there was one. Now the game is so muddled it practically doesn't make any sense and the story line of the Temple of Elemental Evil, wow its been butched or left so incomplete its unrecognizable. Maybe there are a lot of mind numbing quest type games out there, but DnD is about story. We need something compelling, we need something interesting, need something that might actually make us go OMG I gotta do that again, I don't believe what I just saw/heard.

Even the best stories will get old after you do them 100+ times but at least there is something there.

There really needs to be in game moderators or mentors or something to help get things moving. People that can help guildless players get groups to do a run. I don't expect this or think this will ever happen but if you ever have actually played your own and game and interacted with the people that play this game you would see where i'm coming from. There are always good people and bad people, especially in an online environment, but this game feels like its populated by people that are just now learning to use a computer or are here expressly to torment others.

For the love of all that is Neverwinter can you please just readjust tiamat to be a 5 man dungeon that is either queable or just walk in with 5 people. If you DO NOT have the ability to code/program a 25 man queue system then you should NOT force 25 pug man pug teams on your player base. That is probably the horrible thing you have done to your players. In fact personally I think its the most offensive. Either work a queue system that can do 25 people or go back to the usual 5 man teams and just have a "normal" and an "epic" version of the scenario.

It seems that Cryptic (maybe coerced by PWE) don't want the playerbases tears but do want their money. Communication from the lead producer has dried up, although the move to these forums doldrums might explain that. I would not be surprised if we are the beginning of a grab-all-the-cash-that's-possible scenario, before shutting the game down and moving on to another F2P style endeavour.

I can understand many of the points, 6+ months normally i do not post in games unless they do some really good or something that reallys gets under my skin, which has happened. On top of all your points they cant even keep the players in the loop via the emails they send out unless its about something they can profit under. If its a buy something event, you get that email asap, but if its a free event a code ect its either late or expired so something is missed unless your locked on the facebook or twitter page as was suggested by support. honestly should not have to make your player base have to lock on a web page when you also send out mail, at least for such large in game events such as the recent one. Still think the devs should re-release the free item for day one at the end of the event to the peeps that got the late mails and missed it. aka no double dipping for those that recieved already as I pretty sure happened with the first round of game codes from last event.

Well.. for this games time frame having 1-2 alts for 6 months wont get you anywhere.

You need to invest some money into the game to get the most out of it, but it doesn't have to be alot, or all at once. They have defiantly made it much harder to earn AD however, which only hinders newest players, but its still workable.

You can have 1 near BiS toon , with about ten character slots doing leadership , and thats with about a years worth of grinding. In addition, alot of people luck out and get benefits from either exploited items (botted RP early in its cycle with dragon hoards, exploited AD, through two devastating glitches or items that were MEANT to be BoA or C and ended up being sale-able (frankly that has happened way to often)

All of these things allow a few percentage of the playerbase to either be way ahead of what is natural progression and/or be close to it without having spent any money. But its a small percentage of the game overall.

There are legit players who are BiS without any of that, but most of these will have 20 -30 leadership alts to gear out a toon, so they did spend money at one point to earn that with that, it still takes several months to get leadership up to snuff (at least around 1 month anyways) so its not instantaneous.

The difficulty and what many of us have said is one of the top concerns in game, is the sad reality of not being able to play alts anymore.. or play them in a VASTLY diminished capacity.

The lead factor of this is the artifact gear and the set artifact gear, you simply would spend SO much time even getting several alts to purple , that its too daunting to worry about anymore. Having the Weapon/offhand was way more then they needed anyways, they shouldve left it at that and called it good.

The game isnt as bad as some claim, but its sure not any better then it was from mods 1-3 (and the playerbase has spoken on that many times, poll after poll show those 3 somewhere in the vicinity of favorites (with 2 usually winning out by a large margin. Mod 2 had the perfect amount of grind (it was the fastest they ever released) in addition after they modified deep gash on GWF, the pvp aspect of the game was really fun back then (when they first introduced tenacity and profound gear some r8s and 2 artifacts to purple could make you in shooting range of playing with anyone)

If you take just a normal old "perfect" vorp.. its about 8 million AD atm, you tell me how long that would take one player just to earn one of these. At one point, you just logged in every day , ran your dailies (you could get to cap ) or farm some DDs and earn a few million a month or close to it.

Now.. sheesh its hard to earn more then just the salvage on a daily basis and half of it is leadership at that.

Did they go a little overboard on AD in last mod? Yea probably, but as typical cryptic fashion, instead of just getting rid of the auto salvage from heralds.. they just went overboard and new players always feels the brunt of this stuff.
