  • As I understand it - and keep in mind I've never gone from gold back to silver so some of this is stuff I've heard, not stuff I've tested - the way it works is this: A silver character can be freely converted to a gold character. A gold character can be freely converted back to a silver character of the same AT. So what…
  • Huh. I've almost always gone for the OV cooldown reduction piece for utility, with almost exactly the same reasoning of "it's better to take this here and use a primary utility slot for cost discount if I end up needing more". ...I think it's probably that "if I end up needing any" qualifier that makes the difference? Cost…
  • Oh, the lasers. They may once have been relevant, but even some of my non-tanks scoff at their damage output. None of them do anywhere near the, what is it, 40,000 damage or so that dino or ape can do? (Prior to mitigation, but assuming you're being sensible and splitting the hit three ways.) Clearly we need some new…
  • The tooltip for Protector specialization's Exhausting Strikes still has an escaped apostrophe. Ditto for Brawler specs' Penetrating Strikes, Commander specs' Well Trained, Vindicator spec's Initiative, and Presence spec's Vulnerability.
  • That... doesn't actually help avoid dead zones. If you just try to alternate Infernal Blast taps and Defile charge, there's no guarantee that any given IB tap will actually proc Supernatural Power, and you can end up trying to use Defile at a point when you don't have the energy for it. Unless your actual attack sequence…
  • I don't see anything about that rotation that makes it inherently avoid dead zones - how does the math work out on that? I mean, I guess I could see that working if a full charge of defile costs more than 85% of your maximum energy - but then you'd run into dead zones again the moment you teamed up with someone with Aura…
  • Just a couple of minor notes: Infernal Blast naturally refreshes poisons (including Debilitating Poison), so I'd advise taking IB to rank three. (The only argument I could see for Virulent Propagation is if you plan to, in AoE situations, apply Debilitating poison, then spread it, and only then switch to using Epidemic. In…
  • While that math sounds about right, I disagree with your conclusions. Yes, an 11k bubble on a tank that's playing perfectly and blocking all hits is not very useful. However, having (effectively) an extra 3k hit points can easily make the difference between dying and not-dying if the tank misses a block - especially if…
  • Actually, I'd make a different suggestion: Make the rampage tokens non-binding, but add a perk requirement so you have to actually run each one once before buying justice gear. That simultaneously helps with the RNG annoyance, and gives people who have all the tokens they need a reasonable incentive to run the things…
  • Bug: The blazing neck costume piece clips into the back of the neck and shoulders on female models - this gets worse with certain slider settings, but even at the defaults it's quite obviously broken.
  • I'm not sure if this is technically a bug, but (unlike most recent foot details), there is no beast legs variant for the buckled straps.
  • My most recent run past this mission he didn't ask for coffin nails, but the one directly north-east of Perault, next to some crates, should work.
  • I did, eventually, find one of these that worked for me - turns out that in addition to the two I knew of (one that heads south from the base, and one that heads west), there's one that heads east. My guess is that there's something that can happen to break these after they've spawned - perhaps de-cloaking them and then…
  • Yes, this would be good. So many new mods - especially the two-stat ones. I'm sure adding those sounded like a good idea - but it really, really wasn't.
  • Can verify this bug; courier was up, but did not lose its disguise. Swapping zones did not fix it for me; cycled through all three MCs that were up at the time, checked both couriers in each. I'll try again later, report back here if I can get a success.
  • There was, at least as of the last time I tested, at least one instance of each item (including coffin nails) that can be interacted with successfully - and coffin nails weren't the only things where some of the nodes were broken. Admittedly, it's also been a while, so it's possible that the mission's been broken for real…
  • Ugh. Ran into this myself, found this thread -after- I'd already spent the 750 tokens. (Though at least I didn't spend that twice...) Have submitted an in-game help ticket; we'll see how that goes.
  • A question for the more math-oriented types here: I've got an int-primary electric user who already has a significant amount of defense penetration (because, well, int primary); currently using primarily Ball Lightning and Lightning Arc for single target. Are these changes likely to be a buff or a nerf to this particular…
  • On a slightly different topic: I ran some scaling tests with the alien armor pieces on a female character, and am happy to report I didn't find any distortion or clipping issues.
  • And, of course, this is completely disregarding that Form of the Tempest is the proper Form power for unarmed martial arts as well. Oh, sure, unarmed has Form of the Master, but, well, that power only works if you're running around with LR -and- you're either solo or have enough threat generation to be the center of…
  • If you're avoiding Thundering Kicks, I'd suggest also avoiding the advantage on Fluidity and just taking it to rank three. That'll put you in the same boat as a non-dodge-based tank against cosmics: block every hit or risk death. Against non-cosmic opponents, you should be fine with 70% dodge from passive + gear. Shouldn't…
  • * Stack strength. * Full charge Haymaker. * Punch things into orbit. As an aside, it's quite possible to use Haymaker (or Annihilate) without tossing enemies around - you just need to make sure to put three stacks of knock resist on your target first. (This is also important if you're trying to optimize damage output; some…
  • I'm pretty sure it would - this isn't an uncommon question. Neither is "I just bought a freeform slot, how do I apply it to my existing character?" That said, I certainly can't claim to know what sort of coding nightmare trying to resolve this might unleash, so it's possible for it to be more work than it's worth almost…
  • Having run a regen tank in cosmics*, and looking at your proposed gear: you should be fine on survival. You won't be solo tanking dino with this, and a missed block will tend to kill you (especially if you're down to only one soak tank on dino/ape), but it's definitely doable. (If you're down to zero soak tanks, that's a…
  • To the best of my knowledge, there is neither any way to do this, nor any indication that it might become possible in the near future. That said, if you're looking at being willing to pay $50 for one freeform character, it might be worth considering waiting for the next time lifetime subscriptions go on sale... (Then…
  • Four cosmic missions. An OM daily. Five alert dailies plus vigilance. QWZ has its five base dailies, plus one meta-daily, plus one every-five-days meta-mission. Onslaught adds another two dailies and one every-five-days meta-mission. ...And we're at 20 missions just from that. Nevermind if there's an event running…
  • Why should I want to have a character well-geared before bringing them in? I mean, it's not like there are any DPS checks where the group would be better off if I brought someone who already had GCR gear, right? Oh wait. There are. And that's not even getting into the issues where you're trying to gear up one character,…
  • ...Well, I guess this explains why they keep revising the tutorial. Too bad the revisions have, by and large, not actually been improvements.
  • My suggestion for making it optimal to engage both at once: Make the mega-Ds start far apart, but chain aggro - if you put yourself in combat with one, the other will show up when it gets there. This forces the players to at least put a tank on each of them. Give the mega-Ds a shared health pool, so you don't have…
  • There's actually one other straightforward alternative: skip the weapon-based powers entirely. For example, a Lightning Arc based build with a weapon hand for the left hand should work well as a mech with lightning gun. It does take some frustrating trial and error to find which attacks use which hand, however, and few…
  • They'd need to fix skull level first so that it actually works properly. Right now, a skull level enemy actually -has- a level, and spawns with HP appropriate to the level of whatever player triggered its spawning - meaning that if a low level player wanders by and causes the game to spawn a skull-level pack, that pack is…
  • I'd suggest a couple of basic black/shadow were-animal looks - werewolf, snake, and lion all come to mind as costumes that should be pretty simple. Skeletons - both human and monstrous - would be nice too, but I'm not sure if those would qualify as 'simplistic'.
  • Yup, seen this too. I'd guess that the win10 update removed the option to use anything other than 32 bit color - and thus also removed whatever registry setting CO was using to determine if 32 bit color was in use. ...But that's just a guess; in the meantime I've gone ahead and checked the "don't ask me for a month" box…
  • Theme. Now, if the pets had been, say, floating orbs of shadow? I could've worked with that. But what they were? Nope. Did not fit that character. At all. And I had plenty of other characters to work on instead.
  • ...No pet on Ebon Ruin? Yay, I can finally go back to leveling my darkness character!
  • I don't suggest Parallels or VMWare - they may have gotten better since the last time I checked, but virtualization software tends to have issues with graphics cards and graphics-intensive games. I've heard rumors that it's possible to get the client running on a mac using some variation on Wine, but I haven't tried to do…
  • Because you can't get to that level of dodge in a real fight. Your image shows you've got 20 stacks of the buff you get from failing to dodge an attack, so that's inflating your dodge chance by +100%. Those stacks clear instantly whenever you successfully dodge an attack, so your real dodge chance is only around 94%.
  • I'd like to see a return of the old arc reward titles in some manner where newer players can actually get them. Perhaps put the arc titles box on the vendor for a purple special item voucher or somesuch? (Edit: I don't remember all of the titles that were included, but the list definitely included "The", "Lord", "Lady",…
  • Also one pass would be "take the strongest aura, add 1/10th the effect of all others". Loop through once, track the maximum and the total. End with max + (total - max)/10. ...But I suspect that the underlying code doesn't store all applied auras in a nice convenient list somewhere, otherwise this would've been simple to…
  • Range checks are actually quite cheap, requiring only multiplication. Sure, the actual distance to a target is sqrt(x*x + y*y + z*z)... but you don't need the actual distance, you just need to know if it's less than some constant R. And for that, (x*x + y*y + z*z) < R*R works just fine. If you really need to optimize, you…
  • While this sort of change would make a lot of sense from the endgame point of view, it's much less sensible for people leveling via alerts where even the small bonuses from a hybrid's aura can make a large difference - especially in terms of AoPM boosting end/rec for characters that don't yet have their energy management…
  • Agreed. I was also expecting the main quicksilver aura to function like the fire body aura from Qwjibo, and not cover armor.
  • There are a number of flaws with cosmics, yes, but the biggest one is that they're built as high-challenge encounters where everyone involved needs to be pulling their own weight... but they're also built as open-world encounters where anyone can show up. These goals are not compatible. I would, however, support the…
  • Having run Eidolon with a HW character: it's not a 100% death sentence, but you do have to be -very- careful with positioning and react -much- faster than most other characters need to. The key is making sure you're on the outer edge of the group; if there's anyone farther out, then by the time you can move again after…
  • That speculation is exactly accurate. And outside of tanking cosmics, any defensive passive will work just fine, even the much-maligned PFF. Aside: though I don't recommend using Lightning Reflexes for leveling; it is the worst defensive passive when you're low level (which means it doesn't give much avoidance) and can't…
  • Yup. Kaizerin has shown significant hostility to the notion of a 100% dodge build - I didn't record the exact words, but the last conversation I had on the topic included claims that it "trivialized" tanking and that it represented a non-standard build rather than being the only sane way to use Lightning Reflexes, so I…
  • Actually, Supernatural Power only gives energy if your attack hits something. You can be in combat, and if the things you're fighting are all out of range of your maintained PBAoE (such as, for example, a nearby target just got knocked by a teammate, or just decided to back up, or even outright died), you will get no…
  • I've made a dodge tank, and successfully tanked for Kigatilik and Teleiosaurus; I'm confident I -could- tank Eidolon with that character, but that fight only needs two tanks, so I've not had an opportunity to try it yet. Using a dodge tank for Qwjibo is not advisable; it can probably be done, but Qwjibo has an attack that…
  • From the patch notes thread:
  • Yup. Pretty much everyone on the forums agrees with this - I think I've seen only one or two people arguing the other way, and they're either people who argue with everything, or people who admit to having only a very few characters. (Or both.) Really frustrating when what was once an alt-friendly game takes yet another…
