Help with a Tank Build

joonabug42joonabug42 Posts: 13 Arc User
Hi folks! My little Infernal DPS is doing great. Thanks again for all the help! Now I want to get my tank, Might Meg, whipped up into shape. The end goal will be to act as the Main Tank for Cosmics and other end game content. As for build I have no idea, but I do have some preferences strictly for character concept reasons.

These aren't restrictions mind you, just preferences:
*I'd like for there to be no weapons.
*I'd also like for Str and Con to be superstats (I think this might be a given). She's Mighty Meg after all, gotta be super strong!

She's been mostly Might since creation but I'm not locked into that. Maybe get some kicks in there or something. Anyway, all the help that you're willing to give will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for the build, Kamo!

I'm going to give it a few rounds against a target dummy in the PH and see how it feels. Just realized I only have one free respec left on Meg so I want to make sure I'm comfortable with the way the abilities work before committing. :)

Try it in the battle station and/or on PTS. Test dummy doesn't fight back so it wont be as useful for a tank test

Oh, the lasers. They may once have been relevant, but even some of my non-tanks scoff at their damage output.

None of them do anywhere near the, what is it, 40,000 damage or so that dino or ape can do? (Prior to mitigation, but assuming you're being sensible and splitting the hit three ways.)

Clearly we need some new lasers.

A level 40 max squishy character at game launch would have taken around 30% of health from one, so no, it was never particularly relevant.

Eh, if you're practicing, should practice for bad situations, not ideal. Need lasers that hit for the 300,000 damage of a bugged dino crit.

Lasers provide consistent damage and are a good easy way to check on resist levels for most builds. They're super outdated but can still be somewhat useful. But I don't think that's what the OP was looking for when they said that they need to get comfortable with how abilities work before stepping out of the PH.

Battle station provides a way to hit stuff and get hit back and get a better overall sense of energy expenditure, rotation, etc. It's still super underpowered relative to what an endgame tank experiences, hence the suggestion to go to PTS, but way better than lasers or hitting a test dummy.

yea, I would be up for re-vamped Lasers that could go much higher than the current one. Also would be cool to have an expanded Battle Station w/ boss-styled enemies or other very high-risk options, though that's prob a bit of wishful thinking.

If you don't want to go to pts, qliphotic warzone bosses are usually up and, while they don't have the same attack patterns as cosmics, are a decent test. If you don't care about the scr you practice fairly easily with three people (tank, offtank, healer; portal guardian is the easiest to unlock), but you can also find a few dps and beat them up the normal way.

So while we're in maintenance I thought I'd drop in and give an update.

I've done my testing and it's a great build. The problem is I just don't like the bestial attacks. Seems petty, I know, but they just don't feel comfortable to me. I've had the same trouble trying to level other bestial characters before. :(

Previous to this I was using this build (incidentally another kamo build from a different thread). This is the thread the build came from: https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/championsonline#/discussion/comment/12785109

And here is the build itself. I've really enjoyed it so far but I think it would probably need some tweaking to be a Cosmic MT.

Note that travel powers can also be whatever you want. The talents are messed up, it's supposed to be all Con based to maximize the use of Con. Gear that is currently used gives 202 Str, 580 Con and 73 Rec. So... if you wanna do the gearing like that, it's cool. If not, just try to have at least 500+ Con for Defiance.

Just looked over the linked build I linked earlier and it didn't display right at all. It's been fixed now to show the correct info from the build as it was originally posted.

A question about demolish, do you need to fully charge it to apply the crushing debuff?

The only tweaking you'd need would be to make the block r3. If you want it to be even tougher you could take Telekinetic Shield instead of Ebon Void, for increased resistance vs physical attacks....notably Ape and Dino.

If you don't care much for the offensive passive, you can swap it out for Circle of Primal Dominion which provides an awesome threat buff.

    Here's a lvl 40 Might-tank build w/ some pretty standard attacks:

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform
    v2.4.2-29

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Strength (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
    Level 15: Endurance (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Behemoth (Str: 10, Con: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
Level 6: Physical Conditioning (Str: 5, Con: 5)
Level 9: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
    Level 12: Bodybuilder (Str: 5, End: 5)
Level 15: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 18: Relentless (Str: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 21: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Clobber (advantages)
    Level 1: Enrage (Endorphin Rush)
    Level 6: Defiance (advantages)
Level 8: Demolish (Rank 2, Below the Belt, Challenge!)
    Level 11: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 14: Molecular Self-Assembly
    Level 17: Mighty Leap (advantages)
Level 20: Haymaker (Rank 2, Rank 3, Challenge!)
Level 23: Shockwave (Rank 2, Rank 3, Challenge!)
    Level 26: Resurgence (Rank 2)
    Level 29: Masterful Dodge (advantages)
    Level 32: Retaliation (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35: Aggressor (Rank 2)
Level 38: Circle of Primal Dominion (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Adv. Points: 33/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Strength: Swole (2/3)
    Strength: Physical Peak (3/3)
    Strength: Brutality (2/2)
    Strength: Juggernaut (3/3)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: Elusive (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Strength Mastery (1/1)

Shockwave isn't very strong for dps, but it does tag things easily in a wide cone. Some of the other powers could change, but I assume you'd want to keep a route to putting up Demolish (and/or another Crushing debuff) and Haymaker in there.

Yeah the suggestion would be to drop the adv and go r3 or to take TK block or even Energy Shield. The adv was there as an added linger defense because the person in the other thread who requested a build was new to the game and would presumably be running alerts, etc...and not main tanking Cosmics. It'd be a challenge to devise a main Cosmic tanking build where taking the Voracious Darkness adv is an optimal choice.

In the case of a Defiance build tanking Dino, I think the adv could be disastrous. I would be concerned about what happens if stacks drop off, which they tend to do. And since defiance stacks and voracious darkness stacks have the same proc conditions then they could both fall off, at which point the next bite will result in death.

I've done it. It's not ideal, but the fight is not that fragile.
