  • Derp. Coming from someone who struggles with the English language in almost every single post, that's some novel advice. Yeah, and I beat it within a month. Which means that this is all there's left to do in this game. I'm just trying to get a return on the time I invested downloading this hunk at this point. WoW…
  • And yet the game is still being propped up by those fundamentals- leveling, questing, training abilities, skill trees, gear. These are the things that make MMO's work. Because they've been doing it already. They didn't attempt at any point to reinvent the wheel, they simply threw in their own flavor to a previously…
  • That's not a fair analogy because WoW is everyone's measuring stick. What makes some games competitive is polish and adding their own unique touches, like TOR's high production value story driven content and GW2's instancing and combat system. The rest is boilerplate, but it's really mandatory nonetheless. Dungeons and…
  • I'm getting sick of repeating myself. I have no problem with a solo path in an MMO. I tihnk solo questing is great for that. Almost every good game includes such an option really. I don't want to "take anything away" from people options-wise. But it's just common sense that rewards and efficiency should be increased in…
  • Once again, solo questing is great. I do it myself in several MMO's. It's a nice option to leave on the table. But there should still be an equal amount of content requiring cooperative play. Take COH for example. You could level 1-50 soloing Mission quests if you wanted, no problem. You could also level 1-50 doing TF's,…
  • Because Incarnate trials were so easy to solo. Sure, some TF's could be soloed. I had several characters that soloed MoITF's for example. But then there was the STF and LRSF, the Sutter TF, Apex, Tin Mage... Most of which couldn't really be soloed (or if they could it was extreme niche cases, probably less than 1% of the…
  • What team content? Alerts? Those novelty lair things? This game has almost no actual teaming because there's no reason to team. That's where the rewards come in- as we've seen in this game, if there's no incentive to team, people just won't do it. When you can get to max level in a week by yourself and 3 or 4 days doing 2…
  • The good thing about COH was that it had quite a lot of team content AND quite a lot of solo capable content. I've never suggested that quests be removed. Having soloable quests is important, but there should still be team exclusive content in order to instill a sense of community, and with increased rewards and challenge.…
  • lol I can't believe some of these responses. If you guys want to be alone so badly why are you playing an MMO? And how do you not realize that a massively multiplayer game that doesn't require or at least add appropriate incentive for teaming at all is poorly designed? You guys know about single player RPG video games…
  • The trouble is that everyone solos this game because it's so easy and they don't miss out on rewards, which sort of defeats the point of it being an MMO. Having a healthy amount of content requiring cooperative play is what builds up in game friendships with new people and leads to a more productive and vibrant playerbase.…
  • 1.) Raise the level cap to at least 50. 2.) Add new tiers of end game gear and higher rank mods, all of which can only be earned through cooperative multi-team raid content or by completing challenging small team/solo content in the new 40-50 zone. Risk of failure for all of the above. 3.) Oh, that new 40-50 zone. Add it.…
  • This thread is about WoW right?
  • lol, playing WoW free 1-20 is about as rewarding as playing this game to the level cap. This game seriously level caps at 40 after 3 years. It has no end game. It has no incentives to keep playing. There are no raids, team size caps at what, 5? 6? If you want to have an MMO, getting people to have a reason to play together…
  • I recommend you keep complaining until the game gets finished. After 3 years no end game raids and the level cap is 40. Even if you subscribe or buy a LTS to Champions Online you still get a demo version.
  • lol people in this game are whiney. In WoW years ago, a guild crashed an in game funeral for a player who died in real life.. For lol's. You think devs should intervene over people qqing whenever a RPfest is trolled? Grow thicker skin.
  • Once they let me navigate their UI with my mouse, add an actual costume creator to their game and more than 4 powersets, we'll talk.
  • Folks much more privileged and information savvy than I have run the numbers. Feel free to google it- TOR has either paid for itself by now or is on the brink of doing so after a year. The only real question is viability- how many development dollars they spend on the game relative to their playerbase and what they need to…
  • Compare the people who have heard of Star Trek to the people who had heard of the WoW universe, pre WoW... And even current era, after the WoW boom. Compare the amount of people who LIKED the former out of all those who had heard of them. Star Trek wins. And yet, here we are. IP does NOT sell a game.
  • Subs dipped below 1 mil in July, with break even point being 500 mil at that point in time. All signs point to the game paying for itself or being so close to having paid for itself already, after about a year that whether they're technically there or not could be a cause of very tedious debate but ultimately not a point…
  • Unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the individual I'm quoting here. For future reference, it's best to simply apply an end quote tag to the person(s) you're quoting, place your response and then open a new quote tag in order to prompt conversational viability. It's hard to respond to you in this copy/paste cob…
  • Hey, I feel like you're sort of nitpicking my argument. I give a lot of credit to you and everyone else who have apparently stuck to this game enough to feel the need to rationalize its structure- but that doesn't change the logical structure of rationalization- if you're rationalizing, you're rationalizing. The difficulty…
  • It's important to frame the negative TOR whiplash in context. When people say "TOR is failing" they mean compared to WoW. They don't mean TOR IS FAILING. On a bad day I wouldn't be surprised if TOR had 5 times the playerbase as CO, and that might even be conservative. I know this isn't a TOR forum and so this might seem…
  • I suppose I failed to give the "read text and solo" leveling path a fair shake. I tried to mention that what I have done from it was funny (my first 40 was strictly read text/solo) but the fact remains that it's still quite archaic and yea- I know there are options between Canada and the Desert, but the missions are all…
  • COH refugee here, I've been dipping my toes in CO for a few months. Something I didn't quite agree with in the article: I too felt this way at first, tons to do. The trouble is that it's sort of an illusion- the game offers the appearance of lots of things to do, when really it's very limited in terms of content... At…
  • If it makes you all feel any better, for a couple of consecutive issues before COH Freedom launched, we got very little in the way of new content (granted by COH standards) and the dev's seemed to get unusually quiet. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere, issue 21 came out and it was revealed that they were working on TONS…
