Ego sleep and ninja vanish is a great combo, but boy do some things take a long time.

Again, I didn't have real problems until level 20 -- but I was playing without specs, advantage points, or talents.
Once I added those in, no problems at all.

The initial missions weren't too bad. I just need to remember not to aggro too many mobs so that I won't get overwhelmed and get killed.

In the mission "Thick As Thieves", the only mob of note was the Tommy Gun. As a master villain, he packed quite a punch. I got a lucky shot that killed him before he can do me in. But the group at the end of the mission did me in... too many too fast.

After "Thick As Thieves", I changed powers again. I removed Shatter and replaced it with Frost Breath. I then added Sigils of Ebon Weakness into the mix. I also took

Flight as my travel power. I tried if for a while and I was not satisfied with the powers that I have chosen, so I am back in the Powerhouse drawing board. I removed Sigils of Ebon Weakness and changed it to Smoke Bomb.

At level 10, I decided to try the mission "Talos Takedown". I got lucky that Talos didn't his range powers, so it was uneventful.

At level 11, I tried to complete the mission "Purple Reign" and defeat Kevin Poe. Man, he is tough. In all of my leveling in CO, I have never had to retreat that many times. But I managed to defeat him after dying twice. His combination of holding you and sapping you of your life force is just brutal.

Did fight club a few hours ago on elite mode and died once on the last boss when like everyone other mob that I skipped decided to come attack me too then I got knocked so couldn't escape. <_< I'm finding I'm starting to play a bit like how I play in PvP, the only problem is that NPC's attack you as soon as you go into their line of sight again while players will usually be looking the wrong way and/or will have a reaction time where they ponder what their move is as you jump out at them. Running around pillars and stuff seems to be very effective though for me currently. I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up the elite mode for too long as I can see things getting harder... Also ninja vanish is so slow. :D

thats the problem with skipping mobs, they can get you later.

breaking LOS will work with some, others will chase you a LOOONGG way.
I've headed to the desert. which is probably not a good idea, due to the amount of ranged bunched mobs but hey.. I have instant res power. the best power ever.

Instead self-rez, take an emergency threat wipe kind of thing like palliate or smoke bomb.
You need to use it way before your health gets too low, though.

Also, with my melee toon, I could not beat Talos until I was level 11.

Ouch. Some of the early bosses are pretty tough on newbies.

I actually think that has a lot to do with the flaws of melee in this game. Melee has more difficulty overall and Talos has very few ranged attacks.

Your character dies, you get a free res to the nearest respawn.
as many times as you want. Ok , as many times as you die.

    Now that's a super power.
unless its in wind or force. it's out for me.
Level 20, not getting second spec tree yet. want to see how it goes without.

some energy problems but bubble helps stay alive.

    Hit 40 today.
Here is the build I used (yes I stopped buying powers early on).

Thoughts and experiences with the adventure:

Used Venomous breath for 99% of the content. Stunlocking enemies made things quite easy and dots let me take cover and wait for things to die if stuff got dicey. Eye of the Storm was used if I pulled too much and needed to turtle up. Energy wasn't an issue with supernatural power.

Did the tutorial and leveled through missions. Went from MC to the Desert, to Canada, to Monster Island, and ended in Lemuria.

I did use the double XP buff as I didn't want to get bored with this project and I liked the pace better with it on. Total time came up to 19 hours with a couple hours of that being idle.

It was refreshing to play through the game normally, it had been a while since I've done this. I died a couple times when I pulled a tad too much, but never really felt overwhelmed or underpowered.

I tried to tackle some of the 5 man lairs. I got through about 1/5 of Nucrulls lair and called it as it would have taken hours and I didn't care enough to complete it.

I also tried to kill Chimera in the OM but did not succeed there. His attacks were taking off most of my health and I didn't have the healing power to overcome it.

I did kill Mega Terak, but he's really easy if you range him.

I found choosing range allowed me to tackle this challenge without much resistance. I think a real challenge would be doing this through melee attacks only. Perhaps another day.

All that said I do kinda feel this is a better area for where our characters should be at as you can't quite steamroll through everything and enemies do pose a threat if you take on too much. 5 man content (to do it in a sane amount of time) requires multiple bodies.

Anyways, thanks for posting this up! It was a fun experience. Now my little dragon is taking a much deserved break.

    Thanks, Kaizerin.

I'm going the melee route, and it definitely can be a challenge . . . but only the toughest bosses, really. Careful play keeps too many enemies from coming at once, but Eye of the Storm/BCR/Overdrive is such a good combo.

27 and hitting a lot of mobs in clumps which blow through his,( what there are) defences.
I will get him to 40, even if it's just through sheer bloody minded stubbornness.
which reminds me , i need to work on the Automatum. I seem to be one of the few people not focussing on chest beams.

Just hit level 12, and currently doing the mission "The Brains Behind the Breakout". I must say that this is not an easy mission either. I have died twice in this mission without getting close to the boss... time to sort out my powers again.

At the Powerhouse, I removed Frost Breath and exchanged it with Shatter. I also got Evasive Maneuvers. Let's see if this works.

Slowly leveling and trying not to die at the same time. It seems like that I am taking it quite cautiously since I am taking on missions a level or two lower than what I currently am.

Ok, still at level 12 and Zoe Loft is tough ... like major tough. Time to go do something else, I am tired of dying at her hands.

I managed to get to level 13, but I died 4 times in the process. Time to go do something else again.

And may I get an SG invite? It's Nostatistix@danlimski.

    Thanks, Dan.

at 26 I had to give in and get a heal- BCR. too many gadroon shooting straight through shields.
got a spec tree. can't remember what it is though.
the canada Burial Butte missions were ok, except for getting there when the hordes of zombies were turning up.
Did the ones away form the area and went back to that one when they had stopped flooding the area.

    at 30 still ok.
Zoe loft- go down the side. blast attack, run behind pillar.

watch out for explosives, and snipe.
why are you worrying about how many times you die?
    I'm at nearly 200 deaths at 30.

CO does have the ability to set the mission level based on the level of the team. Stuff like Serpent lantern does it. All enemies will be scaled to the highest level in the team.

Skull tech is different in that it tries to make an enemy equally challenging to players of all levels, simultaneously.

This says 10, but that may be minimum level.

I've made it a habit to just stay to the side of the room in Brains Behind the Breakout, bypassing the crowd, and just attacking Zoe directly. Can't say my Gimp had any issues with it...

    Speaking of my Gimp:

    rarlvdB.png

Will Powers - A concerned civillian with nothing to lose. Armed with just his pistols and SMG, he's slowly made his way through West Side, Nevada, and City Center to be a fairly competent and really cautious fighter. Also, he just recently found out he's psionic. Currently at level 21.

Gotta say, even when using 'optimal' powers (TGM, Conviction, and Mental Storm being most notable) the game's still a whole lot tougher. And I actually like that; I have to carefully partition energy, use Holdout Shot at the proper time for healing/energy, back out and use cover when the going gets tough, and just tactically make my way through most missions. Really feels like I'm an underdog, using their wits to get through the situation. Instead of an overpowering superman.

MC Help a Citizen only goes up to 25. After that you do still get xp for re3scuing the people, but you don't get a mission. I've noticed that Canada has it's own version. But it's not easy finding them due to the giant expanses of nothing in Canada.

Head up to the VIPER base and rescue Steelhead soldiers around the perimeter. In fact, one of the mission contacts in Steelhead gives you a rescue-ten that'll burn through them right quick.
Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you

At level 31, I am trying to beat the Qularr Swarm Lord at Area 51.
Though it is only a level 24 supervillain, I can't beat it solo.

Hits very hard, and summons adds.

Anyone else give that one a try?

EDIT: Beat the darn thing on the 8th try. Sheesh!

Also, getting serious leveling fatigue. Hard missions are, well, really hard, and the gain of XP is really slow.
I forgot how slow leveling was without alerts.

    Well I did it.

A little under 5 days of real time and only a few build tweaks along the way.
While having two AoE and two single target holds may have made dying less of an issue, only having one actual attack that was single target melee was certainly as tedious as I thought it'd be.

So I went through the tut, no XP boosts, and I was in the SG as far as bonuses. Oddly enough I actually really like the build I came up with for this. I'm gonna convert Aurum to a much more usable toon with manipulator, AoPM, and proper gear at some point.

I had Conviction, sentinel aura, sentry aura (I think that sort of counts), and much later into leveling (around level 37 i think) I grabbed Protection Field cause I'd run out of stuff to take. I used PF more to ignore incoming damage while activating clickies than for legit damage mitigation though.

Detailed breakdown at time of dinging 40:

    Powers:

    Acrobatics R2
    Millennial Flight

    Bestial Fury
    Supernatural Power
    Pounce
    Soul Mesmerism R2+Glossolalia adv.
    Conviction R3
    Howl
    Massacre R3
    Ego Storm R3
    Mental Storm R3
    Locust Swarm +Festering Bites adv.
    Collective Will R3
Sigils of the Primal Storm R3
    Protection Field R2

    Stats/Specs:
    Primary Pre
    Secondary Con/Str

    Presence
    Dominion 2/2
    Grandeur 3/3
    Force of Will 2/2
    Moment of Glory 3/3

    Sentinel
    Sentinel Aura 3/3
    Torment 2/2
    Genesis 2/2
    Moment of Need 3/3

    Sentry
    Twist Fate 2/2
    Precise 3/3
    Sentry aura 2/3
    Stalling tactics 3/3

Gonna end up changing around powers a bunch, lots of redundant stuff there now. Possibly secondary stats, but I think my specs'll end up being the same except sentry aura.

    Snark never dies.

nice, I have protection field and BCR,both of which I usually forget to use.

I didn't want to get anythign out of force/wind but at 26 had to give up and get BCR. Just not enough protection.

237 missions halfway through 33. I am running out of missions. Currently doing yetis, if that gets me to 34. I'll be able to VB crisis, which gives me VB and MI to do.
    I have
force bolts with adv.(my main saver)
    Gust
    Updraft
    Hurricane
    whirlwind
force cascade(yes you can get it off)
    Protection feild and wind reverb
    BCR
    so far
    ego/dex/con
    ego
    force of will-2
    Insigth-3
    Follow through-2
    sixth sense- 3
    sentry

    sentry aura- 3
    twist fate 2
    fortify 2
    persevere 2
    reinforce 1
    guardian
    locus 1
    make it count 1
    ruthless 2

this is going to take a while, at least with the winter event over, I don't have the becomes constantly popping into my device tray.

I'm at level 34, a little over 250 missions. Currently working through Monster Island, since there is an extremely high density of missions of the right level.

I am splitting my play time with pursuing Justice Gear tokens on my main toon, so it will still be a while before hitting level 40.

My winning combo remains: Eye of the Storm, BCR, Overdrive, Ego Sprites. This maintains energy and health, plus does DoT, and creates a shield.

I also never knew that the Eye of the Storm shield persists for a short time after the power is finished on a full maintain.

Does "retro" count? Cuz, I feel that I've done this way back at launch.

Back then, I had my main w/ Invuln but the wrong SSs and was using various things in the Primary slots (PR in the primary offense, and things like blood of corruption, dark shard robe, etc). So, he was "the gimp" through practically all of his leveling.

Also had a Defiance char that didn't stat any Con. Dying was a way of life for me back then. Especially because I didn't KNOW any better.

So I took a short break from dying, now I'm back to try again. And I did go up one level, and died a few more times.

As much as it is frustrating, the game is harder and it seems more fun. I think I'm a sucker for punishment then.

Just starting a gimp myself, level 6 at the moment!

    Planning to:
    Not use Spec points.
Will not use Double XP if it comes back any time soon.
Looking for the SG if it's still around!

Hoping to have a (painstaking but fun) blast with this!

Edit: Nipped in the bud. Good luck to others, but this challenge is a little above my spoiled gameplay ability. :<

    Just hit level 36.

By the way, I don't think anyone has been too successful without using Specs or Advantages.
    Good lucK!

    2. Character builds must not contain any: Slotted Passive, Toggled Form, Block Replacers, Active Offenses, Active Defenses, Abilities tagged as a Pet/Summon (Sigils are OK!), or the ability Rebirth.

Question on this: Does this include Palliate? It's marked as a heal ability.

    Finally:

I must say, it was actually fun to play missions again, especially with them actually being a challenge.

Playing missions with no gear, passive, blocker, AO or AD, or self-rez, or devices, made things challenging like they were back before On Alert, when I was using a poorly-geared Grimoire AT.

As soon as I'm able to be in game again I will have to give this challenge a go.
