    Wrist Bolter

You can spend two points on Automated Assault to make this a hand slot. That lets you deal some free DPS while other attacks are toggled on. It's a decent option if you take some specializations that work off your energy builder. Spec choices of this nature include Revitalize in the INT tree, Kickback from END tree, Exhausting Strikes from Protector tree, No Escape from Brawler, etc... You can make a whole build around Wrist Bolters like this. However, I'll advise you that you should probably take primary super Recovery and the Efficient specialization with Overdrive, rather than mess around with Endurance's Kickback. You'll get as much energy plus you can still use your hand slot that way.

just to offer a correction, in case nobody else has, Automated Assault is only a 1 point advantage

here's what i've been using- had tons of fun with it

    Build

    PowerHouse (Link to this build)

    Name:

    Archetype: Freeform

    Super Stats:
    Level 6: Intelligence (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
Level 15: Endurance or ego or whatever (Secondary)

    Powers:
Level 1: Wrist Bolter (Automated Assault)
Level 1: Energy Shield (Phalanx Defense System)
    Level 6: Invulnerability (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Implosion Engine (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 11: Molecular Self-Assembly
Level 14: Ego Surge (Nimble Mind)
    Level 17: Masterful Dodge
    Level 20: Palliate (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 23: Resurgence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 26: Mindful Reinforcement
    Level 29: Rebirth
    Level 32: Inertial Dampening Field
Level 35: Micro Munitions (Rank 2, Alpha Strike, Challenging Strikes)
Level 38: Mini Gun (Rank 2, U-238 Rounds, Challenging Strikes)

    Travel Powers:
    Level 6: Teleportation (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 35: Jet Boots (Rank 2, Rank 3)

    Specializations:
    Intelligence: Preparation (2/2)
    Intelligence: Enlightened (3/3)
    Intelligence: Revitalize (3/3)
    Intelligence: Detect Vulnerability (2/3)
    Sentry: Fortified Gear (1/3)
    Sentry: Twist Fate (2/2)
    Sentry: Sentry Aura (3/3)
    Sentry: Fortify (2/2)
    Sentry: Reinforce (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Initiative (2/2)
Vindicator: The Rush of Battle (2/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)
    Mastery: Intelligence Mastery (1/1)

basicly at the heart of this build is Revitalize which is completely game breaking... no joke masterful dodge has a down time of 8 seconds. up for 12 sec, 8 seconds without it, then you can activate it again. it's similar for paliate and resurge... power armor is great for revitalize because your eb can run constatnly. since your eb is on all the time twist of fate gives you +9% dodge and +9% crit chance. and vindicator debuffs resiance... or you could go avenger and increase your overall aoe dmg.

for gear i'm usin some heroic dodge/avoid gear on defense and big stacks of con- 200ish. end 100ish and 100ish int from secondary gear. but you could spec ego for more damage, i just like having more end. big stacks of con are great for hp ofcourse and for ego surge- advantage scales with con so just like masterful dodge +40% crit chance 12 sec up, 8 sec down... or use rank 3 asension and it's pretty much perma asension.

if you swap out idf for concentration you can go for even more damage... or swap out the self res for a team rez... oh and implosion engine is insane. insane.

once you start playing with revitalize your gonna start to see how game breaking it really is... oh yeah and dodge with invul so fun

I have some question about Invulnerability.
If my invulnerability states that it has 150 flat damage reduction, how does the damage reduction calculated?
Is it possible to get 100% damage resistance from this defensive passive?
Can someone show some mathematics about the total defense I can get from this passive?
    Thank you for doing it.

When you say 100%, do you mean in terms of getting 0 damage? Never happen. I have seen some toons do as well as 'Dodge-Block-1 Damage' But it takes work.

Much like in Dragon Quest, the minimum damage that an attack can deal is 1.

I have seen a build called Sweet shield who took just flat out BLOCK or DODGE-BLOCK from my attacks, that was sometime last year however.

I know that 99% dmg resistance is possible, but it takes alot of work and G to get it that high I think..

with the specs trees and certain stat setup it's possible to get 80% all dmg resist from your defense alone.
blocking reduces all incoming dmg by 80% (r3 block), while certain blocks like energy shield+laser knight(33% maintainable dmg resist with melee powers) and ebon void+adv give extra.

there is no way to mitigate 100% of the dmg, but you can come near it if that's what you want to focus on.

for the sake of relevancy here's a PA build that focuses on defense and mitigation:

Hey all, I'm fairly new to this game, I played closed and open beta but I might as well be brand new at this point.

The Gyrojet XIII build looks really damn solid, but I wanted to incorporate Concussor and Chest Beam into it somehow. Problem is they seem really counterintuitive to Quarry, and Chest Beam seems more suited for an MSA build than Overdrive. Is there any way to have shoulder launcher/chest beam burst, AND concussor/gatling/micro munitions sustainability, or do they basically demand different builds? I'm okay with not having an optimal build, I'm just not sure how to approach it, especially with stats and spec and such.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've been gone a good long while ( over 900 days actually ) so much has changed. I am wanting to retool my PA build but obviously I'm not really as able to build as I used to be ( ignorance is most certainly NOT bliss in this case ) I'm trying to stay true to what I had originally wanted to do BUT .. are things as they stand going to make this not feasible? Here is what I have tried to do so far after reading this thread. Am I in the ball park? Currently she is still 18 where I left off with her so long ago.

I created my character after reading this guide. I love playing with a power armor toon. Yesterday i was able to complete Andrith Ruins alone on Elite level. Very hard, but, quoting "Young Frankenstein": "IT! COULD! WORK!"

    This is my current build:

    Name: Steel Centurion

    Archetype: Freeform

    Super Stats:
    Level 6: Intelligence (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
    Level 15: Recovery (Secondary)

    Talents:
    Level 1: The Hero
Level 6: Jack of All Trades
    Level 9: Field Ops Training
    Level 12: Paramilitary Training
    Level 15: Command Training
    Level 18: Survival Training
    Level 21: Covert Ops Training

    Powers:
Level 1: Wrist Bolter (Automated Assault)
Level 1: Tactical Missiles (Rank 2, Crippling Challenge)
    Level 6: Invulnerability (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Mini Gun (Rank 2, U-238 Rounds, Challenging Strikes)
    Level 11: Concentration
    Level 14: Overdrive
Level 17: Micro Munitions (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Energy Shield (Phalanx Defense System)
Level 23: Reconstruction Circuits (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 26: Sonic Device (Rank 2, Deafening Dissolution)
Level 29: Unbreakable (Better You Than Me)
    Level 32: Lock N Load
Level 35: Masterful Dodge (Unfettered Strikes)
    Level 38: Electric Sheath

    Travel Powers:
Level 6: Jet Pack (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35: Teleportation

    Specializations:
    Intelligence: Enlightened (3/3)
    Intelligence: Tactician (2/2)
    Intelligence: Detect Vulnerability (3/3)
    Intelligence: Expertise (2/2)
    Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Guardian: Locus (2/2)
    Guardian: Retribution (2/2)
    Guardian: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)
    Mastery: Intelligence Mastery (1/1)

    Tank role.
I picked talents to have reasonable not-super-stats ( they are all at 30 points instead the "classical" 10 points), and to max the effects of Enlightened, Expertise and intelligence mastery.

I'm wondering if someone's updated this to current standards of play.

I'm considering an all-particle ranged DPS build, but I'm not sure of the viability. Using the guide as written, I've come up with the following build:

    PowerHouse (Link to this build)

    Name: Particle Power Armor

    Archetype: Freeform

    Super Stats:
    Level 6: Intelligence (Primary)
    Level 10: Ego (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents:
    Level 1: The Invincible
    Level 6: Healthy Mind
    Level 9: Ascetic
    Level 12: Quick Recovery
    Level 15: Academics
    Level 18: Negotiator
    Level 21: Field Ops Training

    Powers:
    Level 1: Power Bolts
Level 1: Concussor Beam (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 6: Overdrive
    Level 8: Concentration
Level 11: Aura of Primal Majesty (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 14: Energy Shield (Phalanx Defense System)
Level 17: Eye Beam (Rank 2, 20/20 Fission)
Level 20: Reconstruction Circuits (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Chest Beam (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 26: Energy Wave (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 29: Electric Sheath
    Level 32: Unbreakable
Level 35: Ego Surge (Nimble Mind)
Level 38: Implosion Engine (Rank 2, Rank 3)

    Travel Powers:
Level 6: Power Flight (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35: Teleportation

    Specializations:
    Intelligence: Enlightened (3/3)
    Intelligence: Tactician (2/2)
    Intelligence: Detect Vulnerability (3/3)
    Intelligence: Expertise (2/2)
    Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Guardian: Ruthless (2/2)
    Guardian: Tenacious (2/2)
    Guardian: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
Vindicator: The Rush of Battle (3/3)
    Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
    Vindicator: Offensive Expertise (2/2)
    Mastery: Intelligence Mastery (1/1)

I'll gear for END and REC, to help with energy costs. I've been told that Reconstruction Circuits is actually a pretty good heal, as long as it's ranked up and you don't try to run it with everything, so I'll take that. If it doesn't work, I'll probably replace it with Conviction, seeing how EVERY BUILD uses Conviction. (That's sarcasm, folks.)

"Y U no take Mini-Gun/Micro Munitions, bro?" This is a particle-based build. I took Concussor Beam because I like the pose and the special effects. Eye Beam might be slow (hopefully the 20/20 Fission advantage will improve that) but it's the shoulder-slot particle damage option. Chest Beam is a damage alternate to Reconstruction Circuits with a debuff to boot over Plasma Beam's straight-out damage. And I'm not sure about the particle damage capabilities of Fire All Weapons over Energy Wave.

Yes, I know I probably should have gone Molecular Self Assembly with the INT PSS and AoPM and gone with Conviction to feed MSA. I'd like to stick as much with Power Armor as I can, though. The guide suggests Aura of Primal Majesty pretty strongly, so I went with that, but I know AoPM has been nerfed in the past, so it may not be as viable as running Targeting Computer or Electric Form. Also, I know I can only run AoPM in Hybrid or Support role, and won't get the increase to damage that Ranged Attack mode gives.

Not a fan of Implosion Engine as an ultimate power. Anyone have an alternative that would fit better with the concept of power armor-based energy attack?

And yes, the build has one advantage point remaining. I'd prefer to put it into Accelerated Metabolism for the offensive power I'll use the most (probably Concussor Beam).

Its fine as a regular heal for PA builds, but ya may want a bigger heal cd to supplement it, in case ur health gets spiked.

FAW is a good power for AoE burst dps, esp since you can have the energy to maintain it. It'd be worthwhile as the 'ultimate power' over implosion engine.

Eye Beam will be fine if combo'd w/ other PA slots (I am unsure about 20/20 fission vs. R3, though). Sub-optimal doesn't mean not-viable, esp since PA's dmg can still be higher than most w/ it.

OD is fitting as the EU here, as long as the stats support it. Although OD scales best w/ Rec (tooltip error), it still also scales w/ Int or End. Since Int is already powering Conc and Detec Invuln ya mine as well go heavy on that. Also, Ego as a 2ndary SS isn't doing much for ya here, esp in a AoPM build where AoPM can boost to to/past 70. Dex or even Rec or End could replace it.

If energy wave is just for an AoE KB move and not for its dps, ya can de-rank it a bit for R2 of Ego Surge and/or Unbreakable.

Ya can get Preparation over Tactician for some extra equilibrium from End. Would also prob switch Modified Gear and 1-3 points in Rush of Battle for Merciless and/or Mass Destruction. Same thing w/ Tenacious and Find the Mark in Guardian.
