I'm happy to have uploaded over 125 CO PvP videos! I've been recording and uploading since before the release of On Alert and continue to post new videos.
If you've ever been curious about Hero Games but have yet to play, feel free to watch and maybe pick up a trick or two
Cryptic has a lot of work to do on the Hero Games.
I've compiled a list for some of these issues here.

Ok I just have to say this, and please do not take offense.
It's the music. In the videos. I like to watch pvp matches on youtube but good god man I'd almost swear I was being forced to listen to dubstep when I just wanted to watch a replay of a decent CO fight if it's one of yours. I understand this is my problem (likely due to my advanced age). So I get through maybe a quarter of a video before I turn it off.
That being said alot of that music is apparently rather popular, so anyone younger than Matheslua should like your videos.
Also bump.
Thanks for the bump
When you did videos awhile back, you had everything up: power trays, stat bars, device trays...the works. Those were really good videos because you weren't afraid to pan out to give the viewers something to actually see.
I get that you want to have your secrets for whatever reason from the 10 or so people that pvp now, but man, it makes for some really terrible videos. I watched, I think the second video listed, the one in Stronghold, and all it made me want to do is go into a corner and have multiple seizures. Camera angles were all over the place and all I was doing was watching someone go to the boss room, jump around a bunch, and make 2-3 of the same hand movements over and over...sometimes I saw your life bar go from near empty to full.
My advice: go back to the time when you had full camera view and full screen view. Yes, you give away some highly classified information, but it makes for a much better video in the end.
All the video cropping and camera angles during the match, the first thought I had was: and people wonder why pvp is all but dead now if these are the videos they are watching.
Note: I know that you are awesome at pvp, and "can" make awesome pvp videos...just wanted to let you know the difference in what you did before and what you do now. Most people will want to watch to learn how to play better, and yes, some even copy builds, but not everyone. Just seeing someone jump around using Defile and Force Snap doesn't make a good video if you can't see what's actually going on.

With that said, the camera angles are going to be moving around as that's the control sheme I use (reticle). I'll consider showing more of the full screen.
I know what my post probably sounded like to you, but that all was coming from someone that hasn't pvped in this game in years, nor do I intend on doing it ever again, no offense to pvpers here, it just isn't in my bag of tricks anymore.
However, I do enjoy the occasional pvp video, and yours have been the most notable to me...I still enjoy Rose's feyblade pvp video too because it has catchy music
Could be just me though. I would rather see someone's creative genius than someone just going 20-0 in a hero game.
I think I read in the comments on one of your videos of someone asking for commentary. I think you should give it a shot and see how it goes.

And ama hater because my videos are better! Hur hur hur!
Just because malware has the movement of a sock doesn't mean his video's are bad guys, and people have all kinds of tastes in music, if you don't like it turn it off. It's what I do. =D
Me and mal still never did a duo video side by side of the same time recording something... We'd be like-

They all thought I was out of the game....But I'm holding all the lockboxes now..
I'll......FOAM FINGER YOUR BACK!
Thanks Nepht
Just uploaded a new video, from a long match of BASH, hohoho.
Just to make people happy, it's the full UI, powertray and all.
To make folk extra happy, I am using Country Music. Just kidding on that one.
Now I know the real reason PvP is dead in this game. I was so bored after 5 minutes I had to turn it off before I fell asleep in my chair. The horrible music grating on my auditory nerves was the only thing keeping my eyes open. Now I know why you include that as well.
Haha. It's cool, opinions are like buttholes. They all stink?
Maybe PvP is "Dead" because people who don't PvP are jerks about PvP to PvPers.
True. Quite a few people who have what they consider valid pvp input wouldn't pvp to begin with no matter how good or bad it was.
Turning this into a PvE players Vs PvP players thread isn't gonna help your campaign to improve PvP.

Now that's a great way to get those of us PvErs who might be interested in PvP to join you and your PvP buddies in trying to bring back PvP. Cause making an us vs them argument is a well known and logical tactic to get people to join a cause...
What ever happened to letting people have fun in their own preferred style and not poking them with sticks? Did PWE have a secret stick sale this past weekend and nobody told me?
Besides, I never said anything about PvE players. We're all PvE players if we are level 40.
Maybe i'll get into pvp one day heh, looks fun! *thumbs up*

You need to calm down. Throwing the troll label about does not a long thread make.

Interesting request considering you defended someone for trolling then proceeded to make false claims that I said something about PvE players.
Thanks! I'm always glad when someone finds these videos helpful or enjoyable!
Meh people also don't understand that in a game like CO especially the gameplay is unique to every player. I think everyone in this thread has to calm down and stop being such a Frowning Fred or Negetive Nancy.
If anyone hasn't already give my montage a go, there is a link in my sig. I play slightly more fast paced on squishier builds than malware.
I have a few other videos but one to note is my duel verse luci using my demolish rising knee build. If anyone wants to watch it who hasn't: http://youtu.be/UlygFC_WsqI

I defended no-one and made no false claims. Cool it.

Emphasis added for the statement that preceded the below quote:
The attitude shown in the first quoted text doesn't exactly do your argument any favors in regards to having a leg to stand on in the second quoted text.
Asking you to lay off the attitude isn't trolling. Pointing out the divisiveness in your particular approach isn't trolling either. You however aren't winning yourself any converts by being a jerk and reinforcing the stereotype of PvPers that leads folks to avoid it regardless of game setting. Unfortunately given the current state of PvP going by this and other threads, you need all the people you can to help lend their voice to have it heard by Cryptic / PWE.
But hey, if you don't care about the part of CO that you most enjoy continuing to languish in the sad state it currently finds itself in, then please continue your current approach.:cool:
Now this is inevitable, that some "PvE-er" is gonna come in here and argue against my point, but it's true no matter how much they deny it. They don't like the fact that their build feels inadequate against any other build, especially against a dedicated pvper.
This is not a pve vs pvp argument, but I'm stating a truth that everyone knows, but I haven't seen anybody say. There are many excuses, such as "Pvp isnt fun", "my build is for pure pve only", "pvpers are jerks", "pvpers use frankenbuilds and exploits", etc etc. The list goes on. Maybe some of those are true, maybe some arent. That doesnt matter. It still remains the fact that pve players avoid pvp because there is a lack of reward, and nobody likes losing to their peers in a close knit community as small as CO.
Now on to the topic. I always liked your videos Mal. They help me learn tactics and various build combinations that the more pvp oriented crowd uses. As a more leaning toward pve style of play type of player myself, I use that too help me gain an edge even when facing a pure pvp build.

Making a pre-emptive strike on anyone who may disagree with you by saying the reason that most of those who don't participate in PvP in CO is that they are afraid to lose, and no other reason 'cause you say so, doesn't make it true.
In fact the argument could be turned on it's head and we could say that most of those who participate in PvP only do so beacause they need to beat up other players to feel validated....but that would be a silly, all-encompassing statement.
I don't PvP in CO for a couple of reasons. One of them is the level of public griefing I see from a lot of well-known PvPers (I ain't gonna name names) and another is that, by all accounts, it is in it's death throes.
I know many people who share these opinions and I'm not gonna invalidate another person's reasons for not PvPing.
There are probably quite a number of reasons.
However, I am all for improving the PvP system in CO for those who like to do it. More power to them. I also think that going to the effort of making these videos and sharing them with the community is a good thing and is to be applauded
Click here to check out my costumes/milleniumguardian (MG) in-game/We need more tights, stances and moods
People will like and hate PvP for their own reasons. Let them be, the only reason PvP isn't thriving now is because there is no real reward/reason for doing it.
Now I think mal is a great guy, don't ruin this thread guys....
Just don't start another Sh!tstorm.Please. We're sick of it.

It is true. It may not apply to everyone, but it is indeed true. People just hate losing. Losing sucks.
I do this. Feeling superior against other players because I out powered them, or out smarted them in pvp does make me feel validated. The greatest opponent in this game is a human player. The unpredictability and the potential of unlimited outcomes depending solely on their choices. When I beat somebody in pvp, no matter how bad they are, or good, I feel completely validated, and even superior to them. It comes with the territory in the crucible of this thing we call "competition".

I'm actually cool with losing. Last week I was playing Super Street Fighter 4. I main Sakura and randomly got matched against a higher ranked Sakura. I roundly got my **** kicked but it was cool because I learned a lot about where her guessing games are and what kind of traps she has.
Incidentally, I don't really feel all that awesome when I get paired against a lower ranked player who obviously doesn't know their stuff. There isn't anything satisfying to me about a free win, but it definitely feels great to beat someone at the same level or higher.
I think any good PvPer will admit they learn the most from losing, although obviously people don't play to lose. Losing in itself needs to be taken in context as a step closer to winning, and winning, at least to me, in the context of becoming better.
As for why I don't PvP, I find CO lacks the depth and balance of a competitively-oriented game, and I alluded to that in the PvP thread. In most cases for me if the game isn't good enough for e-sports, it isn't good enough for me to PvP in. Because if I win, I feel empty because most likely it's because the other player just didn't have the tools to have a chance to win. If I lose, most likely the inverse is true. Too many matches are pre-decided before the fight even starts.
And here's a reference for where I'm coming from, by David Sirlin, who spoke at GDC 2009 on competitive multiplayer balance: http://www.sirlin.net/articles/balancing-multiplayer-games-part-1-definitions.html
Ontopic:
I may not be able to appreciate CO PvP but 125 vids is still a pretty impressive number. Also good to see you're listening to feedback and showing your powers tray!
LOL you saw what helbjorn said to provoke that (understandable) response from oobtree, and you're accusing oobtree for trying to turn this into a PvE Vs PvP thread? Really?
What helbjorn did was uncalled for and was in poor taste. It's one thing to dislike someone's taste of music, but to go that far and make that sort of post and dishonestly blame the videos for the state of PvP; it was done just to be flat-out a-hat. I'm amazed that any blame was shifted to oobtree.
Oobtree, I don't PvP, but I can see that the videos are a labour of love and appreciate you sharing them with the community. Thanks, for what it's worth.
Just calm down people. ;D
I personally think that malware puts a lot of work into his videos, if people don't like the music they can turn the sound off easily enough. malware actually uses a few different types of music in his videos, some of them I actually really like. The best thing about mal's video's personally for me is that they simply look stunning. Wouldn't you guys agree?

Not sure if it's 100% love since I do see Machinima's logo there, which means it's paid, but I still respect the effort.
No, not really. I saw what helbjorn did and I warned Malware that this response..........
......wasn't gonna help his thread
I agree and I didn't defend him.
...that's debatable. Taste is subjective. For example, some might say that this.....
....was in poor taste. Nobody was quoted and therefore it was to all who had posted so far.
I agree again
It wasn't shifted. Helbjorn was out of order, but Malware was also becoming beligerent and starting to throw around the troll label which is kind of against the T.O.S. AND was not gonna help his thread.
And we agree again.....I already expressed this sentiment.
This was all shown clearly back in post #25. Now perhaps you can stop attacking me.
I really don't wanna take up any more of this thread, so if you want to say anything else to me Jenny perhaps you can have the courtesy to PM me instead.

GG CO community. GG.
By the way Malware, I found your videos helpful in the way to get insight on what actually goes on in PvP, and I appreciate that.
EDIT: Sorry for the stealth edit hinky.
This is the best comment ever.
Let me tell you why...
If he for example says "yes" then he is agreeing and not arguing his point but saying he has done it before, if he says "no" then he is in fact arguing his point on a thread meaning that his answer could not be valid.

It really means a lot to me!
It's probably for the best that we just ignore the trolls from now on. That's usually the best policy
Like Sister Smash said, haters gonna hate!
I haven't perused all ur vids, but is there one that clearly shows off how stupid the PvP queues are? Maybe make a compilation of things going wrong and fly it around the devs.
(I really want the queues fixed, cause it also affects PvE and the teamup UI ><)
- Be safe and have fun, champs - for science!
I posted this video last July (almost a full year ago) about the queue kicking issue. As you can see it's getting very tiring being a year later and this still kills the joy of 3 out of 5 Hero Games modes.
Wow, so it is way more frequent than the same thing that happens in Rampages (and that only affects 1 player, afaik).
I'm not sure if any of the active devs have experienced this in-game (likely not), but a vid speaks louder than text-based pleas or even still screens. They could prob do w/o the 'fix your game' style comments though :X
- Be safe and have fun, champs - for science!
I think that since it's a year later we should be shouting "FIX YO' GAME CRYPTIC" at the top of our lungs. Even when that video was posted, the issue had been around for almost a whole year before it. Whenever On Alert came out.
I mean, if any single one of them actually tried it in the live game w/ other players.. I just don't see how any responsible employee could witness getting their toon kicked that many times and still not be motivated to look into it.
- Be safe and have fun, champs - for science!
As others have said, it's really the main reason PvP isn't more active. I can't see why normal players wouldn't like a game mode like Stronghold.. It's largely team pvp with boss PvE involved and it's very fun. Not something your average FoTM frankenbuild would be as successful at. In fact your average F&I PQ trinity team is the best team to have !
Yup, if that happened in basic Alerts/Rampages that often I would prob have given up on this game in frustration by now, rofl- and I imagine I'd be far from alone on that sentiment.
It seems weird- I mean it sounds like they put in all that effort to make some general cross-over pvp/e content that could have wide appeal, but so much for having anyone enjoy it reliably. If the devs think its unpopular cause noone likes the instance, then they prob have the wrong impression. Likely it wasn't popular simply cause its not working most of the time
(then to goad them on, you'd want to praise the content itself to highlight why fixing access to it is important)
- Be safe and have fun, champs - for science!
Shhh we wouldn't want people to know that extreme PvE builds work well in SH now do we? We also definitely don't want players to know that PvE is a core part of two of the available hero games modes. We might get too many new players if they fix the queues
Sadly, the main reason for the 2 PvE-oriented Hero Games modes was to make HG's appealing at the time seeing as how, before On Alert, the best gear (Champion gear) was only earned via PvP. That's really the first obvious sign that, originally, Cryptic intended PvP as an end-game source of fun with rewards. I guess BASH, KoTH and somewhat UTC (which still serves as a great PvP mode for the holy trinity) are considered more advanced modes for PvP?
Wow, that is so far from the case now. It's like anyone who enjoys fighting other players, using combos, strategy, etc.. It's like we have been punished with the On Alert pass (special thanks to G.Crush) and we've been left to rot in a dungeon ever since.
I hope that, if indeed new developers have been hired, that they view PvP again as a resource rather than a cesspool. So many other MMO's have enjoyable, rewarding PvP. Why can't Champions?
I may come on CO sometime and make a new PvP video when I have time, havn't done one in ages. :x

And yes. I love being able to post a thumbnail here for my videos!
