I have teamed with Inventors and they have always filled the gap on teams nicely. I consider them a integral part of any team. Inventors I welcome thee.
Why? And allow me to ask, how poor these teams were? And how often, since this is one of the rarest ATs, it is generally avoided by the people.
Whatever support the Inventor can do is served better by any other support AT.
Medical Nanites are mediocre heal.
It has no solid directed heal.
It has no res.
It does low DPS.
The only reason to have this AT in team are its two debuffs, but teddy bear is situational and sometimes can do much more trouble thant it is worth.
Even in terms of debuffs the team will do better with the Grimoire or the Void.
What is so integral in this AT, that can't be done better by others? To the point when it is required to beat the encounter?

Nothing really. It does probably have the highest single-target dmg of the three Support ATs, but that's not really saying much since Support sets the bar low, and teddify's effects can def be annoying (really would like a 0-pt adv to disable that proc). Burst Ray wouldn't be a bad AoE spell to grind with either if it wasn't such a tight and short-range cone. And one would like to gear some Dex/Crit to help grind faster, but since MN and BS can't crit it barely helps ur healing to do so (only affecting the drones, at half the return).
Bionic Shielding is a weird beast on the AT- an effective 15 sec cd on each target, high burst cost, no Compassion to support it, yet there's no ICD on the 5 charges. It can really quickly fill up a health bar, or turn into mostly over-heal depending on the type of dmg inc.
And they can't really let Bionic Tampering debuff be affected by CDR/gearing for the sake of the AT, cause it'd have too many bad implications for PvP.
But the big stinker, as is for the Mind, is no res power. Guess Cryptic really wants non-FFs to shell out for Becomes

That's yet another instance of "flawless" cryptic logic. They denied res powers to the paid AT... Only to give everyone a free AT with said power.
...
Really, Cryptic, get a grip.
If one FREE support AT has resurrection power, then all other support ATs need to be given one. Especially paid support AT...
It's not like you are losing anything by giving res powers to the Mind or the Inventor, since the Radiant already has it for free. Even the theme of the said AT is exactly the same as become devices with resurrection power.

They obviously want to make it rain with that sweet sweet retrain money for when people switch over to the Radiant lol.
In any case though I feel lack of poor long term planning is what caused this. I can't help but feel that the Radiant only came about because of the LARGE demand for an AT with a res. They decided to make it free from the kindness of their own heart (or it may have been back when they were making a bunch of stuff fro free) or some other reason lost to the Qliphotic Realm. In any case they would do well to add res abilities to the other "healing" ATs.
"I tried to look at that page but saw only inane comments."
I doubt it's going to change. Just looking around these forums, I've come to the conclusion this games pretty well dead and cryptic/pwe are just trying to suck out the last few dollars. Until reports haven't been updated since 2012, and no dev "this is where we're at/going" posts at all. Unfortunate.
If I was in control of the C-stores, I'd make some pretty sweeping changes to it.
Consummables, like sidekicks, catalysts, teleport devices, and joke items would all be moved over from the Z-store to the Q-store. They'd be expensive since Q can be gotten for free on this game. Anything permanent would stay right where it is. This way, players would be able to get temp versions of becomes or other items to see if they want to get the permanent versions.
Auras would be yanked out of the crap bundles they have them in now, would be made bind to character, and would be sold for about around 25-50 zen each. It'd increase the number of impulse buys, would increase the number of auras bought due to needing them for each toon, and, would give us a reason for actually having storage for them on individual characters.
I'd do something similar with costume sets. If someone wanted, they could buy the bundle which would unlock for the entire account or, they could buy individual costume pieces for about 25-50 zen which would unlock just for that character. Again, I think it would increase the number of impulse buys.
Character slots would be sold individually for 500 zen each.
Freeform slots would be sold for 2,000-2,500 zen each.
I'd also drop the price on premium ATs seeing as some of them really aren't worth the money and you already have to buy a character slot to use them unless you want to delete another toon to make room.
I'd add color change tokens to the Z-store that would allow silver players to do a change of power and aura colors on one toon, once per token. I know... Some people will probably say it's an insult or a slap in the face to gold account users. Don't care. There's other stuff they get that silver account players can't get. They can live with knowing that silver account players can pay to change the colors of their powers. That's what gold account users do, after all.
Another thing I'd add is the ability for silver account players to unlock a larger resources cap on their account. Maybe something like 100 zen for every 250 G increase.
I'd definitely slash prices on respec tokens. As has been pointed out before, respecs can be gotten for much cheaper through simple game play, making them largely pointless to buy at their current prices on the Z-store.
I think doing that would help up the number of impulse buys while giving people things to spend questionite on, resulting in it having an increased worth so more people would buy zen to exchange for it.
