Heroes, if you've been anxiously awaiting the release of our Auras system, tomorrow's the big day: We'll be having a Friday morning maintenance, and at the end, you'll be able to get your grubby gloves on them. Auras are visual effects that you can equip, color, and slot into either always-on or combat-only slots; get more details in this preview blog.

Auras:

Auras are here! Auras are slottable items that create a new visual effect surrounding your character. Depending on how you slot them, an aura can be active all or the time or just when you are in in combat. Multiple Auras can be active at the same time, leading to millions of potential combinations.

  • Access your Aura Slots via the Auras tab Character Status window (press C).
  • We have added an Aura Storage bag to your character so that you have somewhere to keep your new Aura items.
  • All slotted passives have had their effects removed. You can now buy these effects as Legacy Auras from the new Legacy Aura Vendor in Renaissance Center. All characters get one Legacy Aura for free.
  • You can buy additional Aura packs, as well as extra Aura Slots and Aura Storage slots, from the C-Store.

Winter Event:
  • The Winter event has begun! Black Harlequin is terrorizing Millennium City once again with his army of misfit toys, including Clarence the Giant Mecha Teddy.
  • Join the Black Harlequin Alert to confront him in his demented toy factory: The Finkle Foundry. This Alert was previously known as the March of the Mecha Soldiers mission.
  • The Winter Wonderland Lockbox is now live. Possible prizes include the Dasher Winter Sleigh vehicle, a Become Workshop Elf device, and the Santa Suit costume.

Items:
  • Heirloom items from the Nemesis system are no longer Unique.
  • Dark Aura has been converted from a toggle device to an Aura item.

Powerhouse:
  • Added Regenerating Test Dummies to the rest of the Powerhouses.
  • Those dummies have been set to level 40 (not skull) to avoid some problems players were encountering.

Powers:
  • Aura of Radiant Protection - The Runic Glow cosmetic advantage has been removed, and the visual effect is now part of Legacy Aura: Radiant Protection. Players with this 0-point advantage will need to visit the Powerhouse before training new powers.

Costumes:
  • The female Kabuki Mask was missing some textures in its Leather and Metal materials. Fixed.
  • The Kabuki mask texture "Cinqo de Mayo" has been renamed to "Dia de Los Muertos".

UI:
  • Item listings in tabbed stores have been revised to accommodate prices with long names.

Misc:
  • Fixed a civilian callout message that had lost the name of the villain you'd defeated.

    Oh Snap! Nice updates.

Do you know if there has been any progress on these bugs currently on LIVE?

    HERE

I know that they are looking into PFF's bug to try and figure out the cause, but there hasn't been any word on Telepathy or the entire debuff system bugs

    Also,

    FIRST

Wish they would have addressed putting on on-off button in for auras...guess that is one more thing to ignore.

I felt that the auras themselves were almost ready for live. They have enough to "pass" for live implementation but I feel like a few things needed addressing. One thing being the fading on some auras in the in-combat slots. Some blink out and its a little awkward, where some others slowly fade and are beautiful.

That said, the 80k is a major win and I'm super looking forward to the update!! Thank you for listening to us. <3 The C-store prices will determine if this mood stays though xD

I say stuff and I say things, sometimes together but only when I'm feeling adventurous.

Looking forward to this. I'm also interested in the price and distribution method of the non-legacy auras -- hoping we won't get another case of player sticker shock, because they *are* cool; I'd rather spend tomorrow listening to people admiring them, rather than yet another ***** session about prices or availability.

    So, crossing my fingers.

Lovely update and all, but am I the only one who's at least a little bit peeved to be forced to pay for something we've had accessible for 4 years? It just doesn't feel fair towards the non-rich, no-Questionite farming players.

I'm also really interested in prices for: extra aura slot per character or account wide option, the prices of auras themselves in the store, along with binding on purchase or binding on equip.

You underestimate our community, Scott. You could give everybody all eight slots for free, and one free aura for each slot, and there would still be people complaining because they're not getting all the auras.

On STO, there's a thread complaining that there aren't enough ships and costume items being given away for free in the Winter event. "Free" just isn't good enough for some folks...

Am I a D-bag for liking the fact that some of the coolest costume parts in CO have to either be bought or earned with Questionite? I feel that it supports the Game, and ensures that not every n00b is dressed like me.

Just replace "our community" with "people" and you nailed it.

The general MMO community seems to be the worst with this weird sense of entitlement. Somehow the company that runs their game should give everything away for free and still somehow pay their electric bill, staff payroll etc.

On another note, cant wait to get off work to get some of my auras. And kudos to the devs lately who have really shown that they are listening to the community. Keep up the good work.

You get it from the Aura tailor behind the tailors in Rencen.

The Aura slots are...kind of expensive. Especially considering that a lot of us have over 30 toons that we may want auras on and even duplicate auras. The 475 Zen for 5 items we have to repurchase is also bit over the top. I am aware that they can be exchanged between our characters.

The difference here is that a costume set unlocks for all my characters and I don't need to repurchase the costume set for every toon I want to put those costume pieces on.

So please, at least cut the prices in half.

Charging 600 Zen for a fully decked out character is a lot more reasonable than the price of two character slots (1400).

So... let's say I make a new character. Will I have to buy an aura for him, even though he'll (theoretically) have a power which would have, in the past, given him an aura for free? Like let's say I build a guy with Fire Form... will I have to buy the Fire Aura with questonite to make him look the way he would have yesterday?

And I'm probably one of the few players who actually uses different builds. Will the auras switch when I change builds? One of my alts uses Fire Form AND Ice Form... but I don't get two Aura Tokens, correct? To make him work the way he did yesterday, will I have to buy a secondary aura?

Is there any way to transfer tokens between characters? I've got one guy who needs two auras, and another guy who shouldn't have any auras... Is there any way for guy B to give his token to guy A?

Honestly, this just seems overly complicated and designed to just make us spend more money. Why weren't these done as part of the Costume interface, and unlocked per account? This system punishes those of us who have multiple alts.
