actually she survives fine. she can melee gravitar and not faceplant. maybe not melee tank or melee solo, but its not what I intended the build to do. I wanted unlimited energy, good survival, decent damage, and a friggin cool looking combat style and I got it.
So, since your character survives fine, what was the point in all this?
All this being the complaining about pretty much every change and saying how you feel forced to build in a certain way.
LoL You're one of the people who thinks that LR is way too underpowered and should give 10% dodge chance more. You also have stated in the past that you found it stupid you 'NEEDED' to slot dodge and avoidance gear...
This is too far from the truth. Me and seraphim just made a LR IDF super tank build using no dodge gear.
Basically you use STR or CON primary to get 100% resistance to damage with STR or 80% with CON then 14.5k health with STR or 15.5k with CON. You do this by using no dodge or avoidance cores. If you have LR dodge and avoidance is pretty pointless to stack unless it is flat so don't even bother. Offense wise you could get any or a mix of crit / offense / healing to keep balance. By having maxed out CON your ego surge will give 78% crit chance with STR primary or 100% with CON primary.
Use EM / thundering kicks / Crashing Wave Kick to stack dodge ontop of LR so you get close to 100% a lot of the time then if needed use MD to literally be unkillable even if 10 gravitar's were hitting you.
EDIT: and that is before we are talking about using a shield with that./QUOTE]
Yay! Get 100% dodge by stacking attacks you're not setup to use! Whooot! Nevermind that some people are not using Primary STR or a Toggle Form that enhances Melee damage all that well.
Or are you saying I can go STR/CON/INT, pick up Enrage, and still do good damage with my pistols?
Also, those mods people worked for/paid for that now add almost no benefit to them, do they just unslot them and watch them go unused? Worked for ones I can nod my head and go "Okies, time to work for another" paid for I just shake my head and go "Great way to screw over paying customers"
If they're going to have players pay money for items, they obviously need to rethink how they handle the items.

Dodge gear doesn't NOT work and you certainly wont be in trouble when using them. The only differences is that you can now use impact or growth and still get a good, worthwhile bonus. If you really want to unslot your mods, you realise putting them up on the AH they will sell you know?
Also, if you want to hit good damage with your 'pistrols' I suppose you mean 2gm then you clearly aren't trying to be a tank. Although if you do want to be defensive and use them then take vindicator, remember if you are a tank with strength primary you only want enough strength for be resistant to knocks. You mostly want to put stuff into CON as it is pretty much the most 'overpowered' stat seeing s it has no DR. Ofcourse with strength primary you'll also get the same crit severity bonus you get from the dex tree (when not using the mastery) You'll also get a stupid amount of defense.
My point wasn't that this specific combo of powers was some sort of 'must have.' The point I was making is that if you really want to be a tank then stack defenses, don't think you can just pick LR and suddenly have god mode on.
I really don't see how they 'screwed over' anyone with the changes.
Wait... they're forcing people to pay money to get legion gear and high ranked mods? Shoot, better hide all the ones I have before they find out I got them without spending a single cent!
One thing I don't get is.. how are people who paid for this stuff now suddenly ripped off? Did the things get taken away? Did they get completely rendered useless? No on both counts. That legion piece that gives dodge or avoidance? Still gives those stats. Those mods you had that gave dodge? Yep, they still give them.
I think this might be one of those cases where people think if they just keep saying "Ripped off" enough times that they'll get something for free.
You still have all the things you bought. If for some reason you suddenly no longer value RNG defensive/offensive options as much as constant defensive/offensive options, then that's not really something the company takes the heat for.

*rolls eyes* Yes, they gave ways for you to obtain them free. But you know not all got it free that way, and that Legion gear you got, did you use Free Zen to buy keys then unlock lockboxes? Free Zen to buy keys and then sell to get the global to purchase? Farm for those globals and then obtain the item off the market?
Though, I never actually used the word ripped off in my post. So *thumbs up* for trying to say I did!
And that Legion Gear you have, that's only available through Lock Boxes? Yeah, someone had to open the box to get it in the first place.
Those mods people paid to rank up to R9, that gave a higher dodge chance, so they thought were worth it before, may not be thought of as worth it now.
Also, I've rolled with it This doesn't mean I don't see what others are complaining about.
And unslotting and selling, doesn't mean as much, if you don't get as much as they were before.
You also just look at it from a Dodge POV. Look at it from a different PoV. That build you worked on that relied heavily on the Speed Helmet and Impact Mods and where as before it got your powers down just enough to do what you wanted and then they get gutted to where it's just half as effective.
What do you say to that? Oh. It still does what it says, you get more recharge than those without?
While I bought my R7 INT Mods and Legion Speed Helmet all off the AH, I think I'd hate to see them go "Oh hey, their effectiveness is cut in half because you put all that work into getting a 12 second Rimefire Burst and 25 Second Field Surge, and we want to gut it to 24 and 50 Seconds"
I can only imagine how those who spent money on the mod catalysts would feel. It just sets a bad precedence to allow people to pay additional money outside a sub, and then take it away and say "Go buy these other mods now, they work better for what you were trying to do"
Or are you saying I can go STR/CON/INT, pick up Enrage, and still do good damage with my pistols?
For certain definitions of "good', yeah. That's a variant of some PvP builds, and nothing you run into in-game in PvE will need more damage to take down than a high-tier PvP build.
If you don't think people are paying money to get R9 Mods you're kidding yourself.
People actually buy the rank-up catalysts? If they want to throw their money away all they have to do is say something; I'll gladly accept the cash and find a better use for it all. We are talking about rank-up catalysts, right?
*rolls eyes* Yes, they gave ways for you to obtain them free. But you know not all got it free that way, and that Legion gear you got, did you use Free Zen to buy keys then unlock lockboxes? Yes. Yes. Yes.
And yes, people paid for it... but they didn't have to, they chose to. Choice is nice
Those mods people paid to rank up to R9, that gave a higher dodge chance, so they thought were worth it before, may not be thought of as worth it now.
So now those R9 mods are of equal value as other R9 mods that could go in that slot, rather than before where all the other ones were comparatively worthless. The people who have those R9 do not suddenly have less than what they paid for... they actually had more than what they paid for to begin with. That extra amount got taken away, and they now have exactly what they paid for, rather than more.
In accounting terms, you had assets you didn't pay for.. you got to use those assets until the company you acquired them from realized their error and took them back... and they didn't even expect you to pay extra for the time you had gotten to use them. You still end up with a net gain.
Also, I've rolled with it This doesn't mean I don't see what others are complaining about.
So you're not complaining for yourself... you're complaining on behalf of others? Why not just let them complain if they feel it's worth it? Wouldn't that be "rolling with it"?
And unslotting and selling, doesn't mean as much, if you don't get as much as they were before.
Again... you were getting more than you should have for quite a long time there. It's not like they're asking you to give back all the extra you got to enjoy for a year and a half.
You also just look at it from a Dodge POV. Look at it from a different PoV. That build you worked on that relied heavily on the Speed Helmet and Impact Mods and where as before it got your powers down just enough to do what you wanted and then they get gutted to where it's just half as effective.

I'm looking at it from a Dodge PoV because that's the change they actually made. Why look at it from an imaginary PoV?
You should look at it from the "They gave us all 500,000 Zen for free" PoV then... wow, Cryptic is a cool bunch of dudes now!
btw bad news, I hear cooldown reduction is next on the chopping block
I can only imagine how those who spent money on the mod catalysts would feel. It just sets a bad precedence to allow people to pay additional money outside a sub, and then take it away and say "Go buy these other mods now, they work better for what you were trying to do"
If they're rational people with an ability to see the actual numbers involved, they would realize that they actually made out like bandits by getting more than they paid for for over a year, and aren't expected to pay back any of the extra they got. Those people still have their R9 mods, and no there are no other mods now that work better for what they were trying to do... they were trying to raise their dodge, and only Gamblers gems will do that.
Sorry Spinny. Just have to disagree. It'd be like buying a car that I'm told gets 50mpg and then them taking it back and returning it to me saying it was getting to good on the mpg, so had to dial it back to 25mpg.
You pay for something, you expect to get it.
If you buy a console that's said to play a game, and it doesn't play the game you bought it for as advertised, do you just accept that it plays other games?
Changes I made to my character with these changes? I went back to LR from Quarry.
basically this is all setting up for a level cap raise in my view. You only fix things to to make room for something new. And auras are not the last of what is in store.
I was dreading the dodge nerf because so many of my characters rely on dodge gear to layer a defense with whatever else they have going for them. However, something changed my mind. One of my "main" characters is a single blade, and I built her to be a dodge tank of sorts (not an aggro tank, just a durable character). I found that she worked AMAZINGLY well, and she was by far my best character. So after taking almost no damage from anything ever, I decided to let up on some of the defense, and give her more offense. And you know what? She could still take on anything. So I added more offense and less defense, and she would still get all the aggro from pure DPS and still be able to tank anything. After this nerf though, I noticed she was actually not only dying, but dying ALOT. So to fix it, I've had to re-adjust her. It makes me sad that she isn't the uber character she once was, but looking at it objectively, was it really fair that she could do the most DPS in every instance I was in AND be the most durable character? No, it wasn't and obviously it was broken. So now she is back to how I envisioned her originally - a good dodge tank with decent DPS - and things are fresh again because I can't solo 5 man lairs with her anymore and have to actually be creative and face challenges again.

Ooooo interesting theory. It may be this or it may be for new gear, although they did take down that new gear. Maybe they are looking at a different tack on that gear.
The problem would be with a level cap raise is how much new content they would have to make, if they don't make it then then there would end up being more content at 40 than at the higher level. The best way they could do this would be to add some new content with it but also to make hard modes of a lot of the other content in the game, all the lairs would be pretty cool as max level hardmodes especially if they dropped cool stuff.
Just a random idea.
Plus foxi cooldown reduction NEEDED to be changed in some way, if you compare it to something like cost reduction it is stupid but then... if you compare it to CC increase. Hmmm it's kinda like why would you even bother, I wanna take 20 seconds off MD.
The people who have those R9 do not suddenly have less than what they paid for... they actually had more than what they paid for to begin with. That extra amount got taken away, and they now have exactly what they paid for, rather than more.
This is inaccurate. People were not getting more than what they paid for. They were getting exactly what they paid for. The benefits of the mods were presented and a price assigned. People made the decision to buy based on what was offered and their perception of the value of that offer.
In accounting terms, you had assets you didn't pay for.. you got to use those assets until the company you acquired them from realized their error and took them back... and they didn't even expect you to pay extra for the time you had gotten to use them.
This is also incorrect. Players paid for those assets. The asset was presented for sale by the company and was purchased by the player. The company's decision to change their mind about how the asset would function more than a year after the fact doesn't alter the fact that the asset was originally designed in one way, presented/advertised to potential customers in that way, and purchased by those customers who desired that implementation of the assets.
If Ford advertises a Mustang for $XXX, accepts your payment for it, allows you to take it home, and goes on with its business while you own it for almost two years...and then decides they would rather you have a bicycle instead it is not a matter of you having an asset you didn't pay for.
In accounting terms, the company decided to sell the asset, accepted payment for the asset, delivered the asset, and spent the payment. Now they are altering the asset after the fact.
Personally I consider the changes to be positive. But some consideration should have been offered to those to whom Cryptic sold X and then took back half of it.
Wait... they're forcing people to pay money to get legion gear and high ranked mods? Shoot, better hide all the ones I have before they find out I got them without spending a single cent!

Recorded for posterity for what exactly? Being wrong? Or how CO sold one thing as is, then altered it to be something else?
"Hey! You! Buy this and get this more to your dodge!"
"Okay!"
"Thanks for buying! But we've decided it was to much, so we're cutting it in half. Don't worry though, you can purchase something else to make up for it."

Wait, what can I purchase to make up for it ?
AFAIK there is nothing I can purchase to make up for the loss in survivability.

Those people did not pay money for Gamblers Gems, you can't buy gamblers gems with Zen.
Even if they were to "reimburse" people... how do you go about that? Do I get a couple bucks because I have a Legion gear of dodge? I didn't spend any money on it...
Do I get a couple bucks cause I have gamblers gems? I didn't spend money on those either.
Hell I'm still using them... do I get a couple bucks if I just state that I'm not going to use them anymore? What if I get my money, then just start using them again?
Player X bought rank up catalysts... but that purchase has nothing to do with the dodge change.
Player Y bought cosmic keys... but that purchase has nothing to do with the dodge change.

It'd be more like you purchased Car X, and several years after you bought it it turns out the engine doesn't meet new pollution standards and you had to get a new engine that meets the standards but happens to be less powerful as a side effect.
The console example just doesn't apply, because the console would still play the games it advertises. In fact, when you bought it they accidentally shipped you two consoles, and let you keep them both for a year... then they sent a letter saying you have to send the extra one back since you never paid for it, but they're not charging you extra for the time you got to use it.
Your decision to drastically switch the playstyle of your character by switching to a defensive passive from an offensive passive is your own, you can't blame the company for that. Many of us are still using our offensive passives.. hell, some of us are using offensive passives that never gave dodge to begin with.
Recorded for posterity for what exactly? Being wrong? Or how CO sold one thing as is, then altered it to be something else?

Yes for being wrong. I suspect there may be some changes as to how freeform is aqcuired. I'll be curious to see if there is any consistency in the op's views if/when that happens.
Also the claim that one does not pay zen for gamblers' or any other type of gem. They are sold in lockboxes. Which are opened by keys. Keys that can be purchased with zen. Spinny either does not understand basic economics or continues to be contrarian in a seemingly endless attempt to keep people riled up.
edit- Yes Shield I know. Also I'm sure there are probably a small % of people who got a drop, found one in a node, etc and used the z-store to rank it up (at those prices though blech, but it is what it is). I was pointing out that mods can be purchased with zen, and I forgot to mention these, so ty.

Not all of them are sold in lockboxes. Those that bother to search resource nodes and fuse what they get can also end up getting R9 mods eventually. I've got a couple of R8 and R7s sitting around that I've fused up from R1 without having spent any money in the process. I realize that the number of people who actually do this probably a make up a very low percentage overall, but it's not such an insignificant number that it should be completely disregarded when talking about how people go about getting a hold of high-end mods. I'd imagine that some of those individuals are just as upset about their ranked up gems as those that went out and bought their gems outright.

400 Crafting Skill, researching nodes, the odds of eventually is quite low, but then if it wasn't, people might not purchase those rank up catalysts.
The difference though, is that those who spend extra money to rank up mods, were doing it with a "Okay, I do this, I get an extra 8% dodge" only to instead get "Yeah, what you paid for to get that 8% dodge is now 2%"
If people bought a power that was advertised as doing 50k damage at R3, and then they went about and changed it to 5k, people wouldn't be happy This is no different.
It's the nature of an ongoing, online game with regular updates that things change. Change for good and change for bad. It's been this way loooooong before CO. It's not just MMOs, but other games, especially those that have a multiplayer aspect.
I remember in WH40K: Dawn of War, the Eldar's builder unit had an ability to basically paralyze enemy buildings (making the targeted buildings unable to produce units or upgrades). It was an especially effective ability because the builder unit had a huge teleport range (teleport in, zap the buildings, teleport away from enemy fire, rinse and repeat). The ability was removed in a patch a few months after the game's release.
The "car" analogy isn't a good comparison, IMO. A car is a mostly static object when you buy it. There are no expected changes other than wear-and-tear/maintenance or if the manufacturer puts out a recall. Most online games, on the other hand, receive regular patches that change the game. Changes could be to add stuff to the game, fix broken stuff, or rebalance things. To expect the developers to only make things more powerful or never to take away anything is, quite frankly, idiotic.

This. I agreed with everything except for 'IMO' a rather 'idiotic' acronym to use in any conversation in my opinion. But that's besides the point, please take everything including my firstborn.

Lockboxes are a fairly new dynamic here.
Precedents exits for the things you mumble about in general as if they had been or ever were static..translation your examples are utter nonsense.
You are the customer Cryptic loves. The uninformed buffoon with spare time. Type on hero!

There is a difference between paying a sub and knowing things will change, and paying a sub and then paying extra for something.
Let's go with your example. You just paid a lot of extra money for that new costume set! Whooot! It's awesome! It just completes the perfection that is your main character. Then they go and edit the entire outfit and make it look horrid.
This is now not the costume set you paid for, but it is the nature of MMO according to you.

There is a difference between gameplay changes and optical changes. You paid for a costume set, if they change it to a different costume you did not get what you paid for.
The item is a primary defense, they did not change it to a primary utility. They did not change the dodge stat on your item. They changed how much impact a certain stat has. They did not make the items obsolete and they did not change their purpose. They only changed effectiveness.
You can't play a game and expect them to ignore balancing and never make gameplay changes. And a legion item still has the same advantages as it had before. It is still better than heroic.
basically this is all setting up for a level cap raise in my view. You only fix things to to make room for something new. And auras are not the last of what is in store.
Yeah, as much like the whole item revamp we got with On-Alert was all for the coming level cap raise

So, since your character survives fine, what was the point in all this?

If you don't think people are paying money to get R9 Mods you're kidding yourself.
My super cool CC build and how to use it.
Also, I've rolled with it
And unslotting and selling, doesn't mean as much, if you don't get as much as they were before.
For certain definitions of "good', yeah. That's a variant of some PvP builds, and nothing you run into in-game in PvE will need more damage to take down than a high-tier PvP build.

People actually buy the rank-up catalysts? If they want to throw their money away all they have to do is say something; I'll gladly accept the cash and find a better use for it all. We are talking about rank-up catalysts, right?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
And yes, people paid for it... but they didn't have to, they chose to. Choice is nice
I never actually said that you said that... where are you getting that from? Could you quote where I said that you sad "ripped off"?
Yes, I opened the lock boxes. I'm a big girl, I can open my own boxes now
So now those R9 mods are of equal value as other R9 mods that could go in that slot, rather than before where all the other ones were comparatively worthless.
So you're not complaining for yourself... you're complaining on behalf of others? Why not just let them complain if they feel it's worth it? Wouldn't that be "rolling with it"?
Again... you were getting more than you should have for quite a long time there. It's not like they're asking you to give back all the extra you got to enjoy for a year and a half.
If they're rational people with an ability to see the actual numbers involved, they would realize that they actually made out like bandits by getting more than they paid for for over a year, and aren't expected to pay back any of the extra they got. Those people still have their R9 mods, and no there are no other mods now that work better for what they were trying to do... they were trying to raise their dodge, and only Gamblers gems will do that.
My super cool CC build and how to use it.
If by "good damage" you mean enough to complete any content in the game including timed dps races... then yes.
My super cool CC build and how to use it.
You pay for something, you expect to get it.
If you buy a console that's said to play a game, and it doesn't play the game you bought it for as advertised, do you just accept that it plays other games?
Changes I made to my character with these changes? I went back to LR from Quarry.

This is inaccurate. People were not getting more than what they paid for. They were getting exactly what they paid for. The benefits of the mods were presented and a price assigned. People made the decision to buy based on what was offered and their perception of the value of that offer.
'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.
Recorded for posterity.
My super cool CC build and how to use it.
The difference though, is that those who spend extra money to rank up mods, were doing it with a "Okay, I do this, I get an extra 8% dodge" only to instead get "Yeah, what you paid for to get that 8% dodge is now 2%"
If people bought a power that was advertised as doing 50k damage at R3, and then they went about and changed it to 5k, people wouldn't be happy

My stomach is clear and my mind is full of bacon!
Yeah, as much like the whole item revamp we got with On-Alert was all for the coming level cap raise
Desert will be 40-60. Canada 50-70. And VB 80.
