It's been said that perk points have no meaning other than bragging rights - yet typically a player doesn't even get that much.
With Alerts making it clear that some new players (if not most) hit 40 without ever leaving MC, I thought why not see how much of the game people have actually completed. The nice thing about perk points is, you can't simply buy your way to more.
I don't want to announce the prizes just yet, but I do think the winners will be content. I don't have a set date in mind, but expect it to end before the nerf patch. However, I also plan on issuing random rewards so one doesn't need to lead the pack in order to get a prize either.
My main Reiyn as of this moment has 17,680 perk points, and I still have a number of spots I could earn more with a reasonable amount of time, and should hit 18000 before next week. -Edit looks like Ill be stopping at 17815 now that the patch is live. Funny how said patch "broke" the servers.
How many perk points do you have?
- change, with incoming patch - going to simply hand out DAs at random to people who have submitted a score
-Top Prize Complete Set of Backups, valued at over 6k (1 of each)
Random Rewards - Dark Auras
Mailing rewards later assuming one can get onto server.
I like this! Will return later with my perk point totals.

Current Perk Point Total, since I haven't really tried much lately, is 22,840.
Mostly just missing a few of the 5,000 kill perks, a few of the PvP perks since I stopped caring about PvP, and Chapter and Verse because I still haven't been able to find that last book.

I have the feeling that's gonna be the one to beat. Since I'm nearly at 18000 with some 5k perks complete, I doubt I'd be willing to grind the hours required to catch up. With that said, i doubt anyone else who isn't close would either.
Will definitely be impressed to see if anyone else is over 20k.
Kudos to those who shoot/shot for this. I already know without looking that my perk totals will be hilariously low on all of my toons. I've never perk hunted and actually made it a point to try to play each character through different content chains than the last which is pretty much detrimental to getting a large number of perks complete on any one character.
Seems I have some catching up to do compared to others.
Here is what I have and screenshot for proof:
This is off my main and oldest character that I own (*points to avatar*) that if I would try to do perks, it would be off this toon. I could of sworn I had more, somewhere near the 10k mark but guess from changes in the game some perks were removed? I dunno haven't been focusing on perks this year, mainly been Roleplaying. You'll never see me have perk points in the PvP section unless they are from just goofing off friends I dueled before. This total is me playing since January 2012.
On a side note, do like this idea of a thread. I'll go see if I can earn some more points before a end date is announced.
I'll check Happifun's perk total later - I know he has a metric crapload of titles he can use. (Note: 1 metric crapload = 2.3 imperial craploads.)
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
I have 16713 on my perk toon just short of Chapter and Verse (since I'm certain that its broke), Stolen Kisses, and a couple perks I'll never get because of pre-F2P reasons. All those 5k and damage perks are insane to acquire without retconing too often, so I'm sure 17k is a pretty solid cap for me.
Sure, but those won't add much to the total at all. as an altoholic, I'm at a severe disadvantage, but my main guy has like 10,800 or summat.
I thought he had more but I guess not. Too Bad Steam lists don't have the perk point values, if it did we could get a cross reference of all Perks across all characters with no repeats.
I'm updating something on Steam this second so I can't link you now, but I'll update this post or just post later with a link to my Steam perks list.. which would only be missing a few from my main, but also have a bunch I didn't get on him from other alts that got them.
Every time I take someone through the tutorial (usually when trying something new), I take care to get Red Bug Down. It's easy enough, after all - just jump up on the crashed Bugship right there by the Mayor.
I can't recall if there were any perks in the old tutorial...
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
Just checked Offender and he's got 9610. I feel inadequate!
Now if we were talking Perk Points across our entire rosters...
I thought about doing that - but alts are easier to exploit as far as inflating perk point numbers.
However, I may add that as an option just to open up the contest more, splitting rewards so to speak since multiple alts could easily surpass the 22k silverspar lead.
I do think it's neat to see that there are a lot fewer than expected breaking the 12k mark so far.
But like I said before all, post your total as the random drawing I'll have will still give a lil something something to some people regardless of score.
With the mentioning of newer players doing nothing but alerts until level 40 without leaving MC, I'm assuming that the contest is also intended as an incentive to give more exposure to legacy mission arcs for new players.
That's a commendable thing, as is going the extra mile in engaging the community. However in my opinion to give new players a fighting chance against the older veterans who have had the advantage of playing the game pre-alerts and max'ing out perk points, I'd suggest extending the contest duration to say maybe a month? Two months or three?
Just my 2 cents.
EDIT: Actually two or three months seems far too lenient. I guess a month would be reasonable.

Agreed, awesome idea op. Imo, Jenny asking for like a 2 month extension seems like asking for a bit much in this case, but extension of your suggestion and some additional events wouldn't suck.
edit**and just saw your edit, but I think a marathoner type/and alt perk point pool totals could still work event wise.

Well the primary purpose of said contest was to have a a worthy "challenge" to give away some of the nice stuff I've held onto before leaving the game. While I see some much needed new changes, the focus on heavy nerfing to repeat the same old content was my last straw.
Considering that I started in Oct. 2011 and will barely breach 18,000 - based on the submissions so far I doubt anyone who isn't relatively close is going to push to beat the current leader. That's also why I've decided to go with a random drawing to make sure those who alt reguarly are simply forgotten.
Looks like I am still in last place at just under 8k. I am not really a Perk hunter but in the past I have devoted my time to get some of the 5k kill ones. But like the OP said:
With Alerts making it clear that some new players (if not most) hit 40 without ever leaving MC, I thought why not see how much of the game people have actually completed. The nice thing about perk points is, you can't simply buy your way to more.
I think I proved myself that I am not a Alert camper
I am working on some of the easier ones I still need to get like exploration, lore, and knowledge perks.
I checked Happifun last night, assuming he'd be the one with the most Perk points in my crew. He barely cracked 3500. Guess I just haven't been a very good perk hunter...

I don't think it's necessary to do another one, no worries. And it would be seriously skewed toward people like me who have dozens of characters.
but I dont like to "revive" post which not have been used for like half a year. While this post still "alive" (people keep posting here) and is in the forum which is used to ask question.

Mailing out rewards tonight - if you don't have your handle in your post and I don't know it, I can't mail it!
Not that I imagine I won anything, but my in-game handle is also @jonsills.

Hoping it's not too late to get in on this... yeah, okay, kinda a sucker for (chance at) free stuff. I've managed to get up to 7405 points on my main - not too bad for having only a bit over 6 days /played. But, sadly, no real competition to the winners, and I can't even claim chronic altitis; I just haven't been playing that long. (@Morigosa on the off chance that I luck out and win something.)

'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.
I still have a lot to get. Seems that 22,800 is the number to beat. Anyone happen to know what the max possible is if someone had everything?
And are there some that are impossible to get anymore?

I know there's some from the headstart event you can't get anymore. Unless we bother the developers to revive the Qulaar invasion...

Red Bug Down is from the Tutorial, still available. I'm pretty sure there were perks associated with the Head Start Qulaar event.
Edit: http://championsonlineroleplayers.shivtr.com/forum_threads/275069
Not sure if those are obtainable still with regular Qulaar or not.
Yeah there were specific Head Start perks no longer obtainable.

10223
Damn you all have crushed alot of stuff. /salute and offstage step mkII
My main has 10,830 Perk points...
HOWEVER.... can we count all the perk points on all my toons, cuz then I'd be at like 500,000
Guess I've got a lot of perks to hunt down.
