It's amusing how people only really get interested in things when they're gone.
I'm..... going to read more of this thread, yes, but some time ago, I wanted to start up Champedia.wikia.com, though it went nowhere fast, and due to how long nothing was happening (My fault too of course 'cause I guess the more work there is in front of me, the less compelled I am to do it. An entire wiki? Gah...), I figured I might as well delete it. That and I kinda screwed up. Should've called it "Champedia", not "Champions Online Encyclopedia", especially since it adds "Wiki" to the end of absolutely everything, but it seems like you can't edit that when it's in place... and then to top things off, I can't reuse "Champedia" 'cause they only deleted the page itself. They didn't bother to free up the name upon deletion, like many an MMO case I recall with characters.
We could try to come up with a new idea, or... contact them about freeing up the name since it's not in use.
I'm gonna start formatting and such after work tonight. I'm a vet too, and I know a ton about the game. Maybe not as much as Lohr, but enough, and I've got a lot of dev experience with this sorta thing. We want a new official wiki? let's make one. This uses the same software as wikipedia, with a wysiwyg editor for ease of use.
I wouldn't mind some volunteers. O_o
This is just as a reminder that the Evil Taco has actually already started one up. So if anyone is interesting in volunteering, here's what he said, alongside his link. I'd personally volunteer if I knew anything about wiki's... but I don't.
Although I will say that "Socrapedia" sounds wonderful, especially with how it works thematically with the game.
I say stuff and I say things, sometimes together but only when I'm feeling adventurous.
Dec I will have to inform you on the forumites channel Lohr asked for some info to help with the wiki and the devs refused. Lohr liked to have all the proper stats to make the wiki perfect but didnt get the assistance she was used to and consider this if Cryptic arnt going to help her now due to new PW policies why should she bother anymore. It was done in her free time for nothing .
Oh and before others chip in I am no Lohr fangirl. She thinks ima weirdo and I thinks she's a bit of a mooface. I just respect her and her friends hard work.
We did drop the ball on one thing in particular -- we were starting to work on handing Lohr stats on all vehicles + awesome screenshots. The thought was to make it possible to do a vehicle gallery. A little ways into it, though, the devs started saying maybe they'd build out the vehicle gallery themselves. That was a while ago, but it went into the nebulous gray zone of "we still kinda want to make this happen, but are struggling to find time," so my interaction with
(Today I spoke with LordGar, and he officially put the kibosh on making it dev-side and opened it up for any wiki who wants to do it -- he'd rather focus on in-game dev stuff.)
If anyone wants to do any Wiki-type stuff and needs information, always feel free to ask me. I have a bad habit of forgetting about conversations and not following up, sometimes, but ping me if I do. I do want to support community Wikis, whoever runs it.

I will. I'm starting to set things up on my end, gathering info and such, before I start seriously plugging away at it. I'm gonna wall-of-information the wiki in the next few days, I'll hit you up if I need details. Stuff on the vehicles would, in fact, help.

Because a lot of the entries for powers and such are blatantly inaccurate. And because we're not allowed to sign up and fix em without specific permission from a player that most of us don't even know how to contact anymore.
Outdated? How about the new telepathy powers that got added to the wiki?

Both of those links were last updated by Vizzone. Lohr updated the Rogues Gallery Perks page in February, but nobody has touched it since then, except Vizzone.
If you look at the Recent Changes page, and extend the history as far back as I can get it to go, I see a few additions from three others in early July. Other than that, Vizzone has been the only editor for months.
Right now, Vizzone IS the wiki.

You know, the 3 dots and congress of selves and such? I mean, obviously, they're right there.
Oh wait, no. No they're not. neither is rimefire or redirected force. I'd add em myself, but, you know.
This is why I'm sorting templates for a new wiki. Everyone should have access to it, period. It's not a wiki otherwise.
Nor do I know you but your rage-period mindset doesn't sound better, does it?
Anyway, I don't want to start a silly flamewar nor I'm a COwiki groupie so I wish you the best of luck with yours... Period?
His point was that you don't NEED to know him to edit the wiki he's setting up. It'll be editable by all.
The current CO-Wiki, as good as it is, is under a Fort Knox-level lockdown meaning that only a few people can edit it, and - as I mentioned in my above post - only one person seems to be doing any significant amount of work on it.
If it were more open, more people would work on it, and there would be less out-of-date info in it.

Holloweaver, I think you see rage where there is none. My point was simple: We're missing stuff because we can't edit it. I'd like to see that fixed, that's all.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.
Yes, I'm afraid I will "diminish the importance of Lohr to the game", because it has nothing whatsoever to do with what we're talking about. We want a functional Wiki. The "Lohr Appreciation Society" can have the room later in the week.
Pretty much this.
diminish the importance of Lohr? People want an up to date wiki, not to stroke the ego of a long gone player, lol.
I wouldn't mind helping either Lohr's set up, or any of the newer ones tbh. I have personally crafted many a char thru the use of the wiki and thxfully bypassed a lot of painful redo's cuz' of it.
Just puttin' it out there. I'm not a know-all but I've had enough run around experience in the game and character creation exp with all the sets to know enough to be danger... errr helpful. XD
Really???, as if I wanted to change all my forum information to begin with.... Shoulda' left our stuff alone and I wouldn't have chosen vvhore after the forumocolypse.
Can't use Tyger like it used to be, can't use vvhore cuz' it makes someone squeamish
Honestly, I'd be amazed to find out if this whole thing wasn't run on 2 hamsters and a spinny-wheel.
...THAT SAID.
Still interested in giving a hand in either rejuvinating the lohr project, or helping with someone else in getting their wiki up and running.
A) I both own the website and pay for the hosting. When the game went f2p, there was so much traffic, the server blew up. Had to move it. Cost me a lot of money in order to do so. But that's not an issue as I've done it gladly and would do it again for a game and community that I enjoy.
Over the course of me playing this game and editing the wiki, there have always been a handful 5-6 people at a time editing the wiki. It cycles in and out. I gave my heart and soul and thousands of hours into building it up.
C) I have been a hard **** at times, I've had my battles. I've dealt with the trolling, fake crap being put up there and devs who were pains rather then being helpful. Running a wiki and keeping it neat and clean is an extremely difficult thing to do.
D) Yes, it's locked down. From day one, you've always needed to have an account to edit the wiki, it prevents trolling. It's locked down even further because it was getting bombarded with spam, so much so that those who were around couldn't keep up.
E) I've been playing other games, been busy with life. I have a lifetime account and am not going anywhere. Vladcul does have the right to create new accounts. As there has been no other person that has been around consistently, am I supposed to blindly had over admin to the wiki?
G) I don't visit here all that often, but there are people who know how to get a hold of me if something blows up. So with that being said, if someone wants to talk to me offline about admining it, or someone to create accounts, let me know and I'll give you my email address. I see lots of people saying they want to edit the wiki, but no one has asked me/pm'ed me to create an account for them. Don't know if vladcul has any, but in the interrim, I'll be happy to create accounts.
Did I forget anything?
Edit: I've logged in game and I just realized that forum mail is no longer connected to in game mail. Apologies to these people who pm'ed me in game.

Bit of an update. I hit lohr up in game, and we kinda decided (well, ok, I offered) that the best course of action is to just pool our resources. I've been doing a fair bit of research, and I'd rather update the one we have than build a whole new wiki. I'll let her speak as to the other stuff that's going on, I gather she's hitting some people up who were trying to help. Moral of the story: Lohr's still a badass, and the wiki's getting more updates. I'm gonna be doing a pass of the powers over the next week or so, to update the figures to more accurately reflect the current numbers.

Yeah I forgot that forum mail wasn't attached to in game email. One of the benefits of the old forums. Anywho. I responded to various friend requests and people who asked for logins and created one for ET. I'm still not gonna hand over admin responsbilites as there can be lots of troubles to be caused, ip addresses, breaking things if you don't know what you are doing, etc.
So, if you would like a login, send me a pm, forums are easier. Send me the name you would like (assuming it's not taken) and your email address. I'll send you back a password.
Based on my conversations last night it looks like the following stuff needs to be updated:
Powers pass (huge undertaking)
New Perks, action figures and costume pieces
New Questionite store stuff
new Zen store stuff, though I gather there has not been much
and the last alert and then the new mini comic series.
Just popping by to say I hope you took no offense at my earlier comments (none was intended...just frustration and a lack of understanding of the admin situation) and I'm glad you're opening things up a little.

I've grown a relatively thick skin, so no big deal.
This game does not have a large player base and as a result, not that many people want to update the wiki, regardless of its fort knox state. As people are want to do, they are upset when they can't do something and then when they can, don't do it. So I suspect I'll create a few logins for people, they will make one or two edits and be done. If people do stick around for a long time, FANTASTIC!
I'll update what I can, ET was talking about the powers and there are other various things that will get updated, but I'd wager that the overwhelming majority of the wiki is still correct and needs no updating.
If when the new studio is ramped up and they actually produce content, I'll contemplate opening it up completely if there is enough activity to warrant it.

Yeah, it's an attrition game, I'm sure. The only reason I haven't been clamoring for one is I don't want to be one of "those". I'm terrible about going like gangbusters getting something started and then procrastinating like a punk finishing the job (as illustrated by my CoX website and my Champions thread...I have 17 characters and about half as many Nemeses (Nemesi? ) and have only managed to get 5 down in print).

No reflection on your end, but I shall not hold my breath.
