You can ring my bell (Hi-Pan: Fury of the Dragon)

Instead of brain-dead comic comic (or comic parody) tooting his own horn on Hi-Pan's side when you get to the up most plateau, there should be something in the video that indicates that the bloody Dragon disappears when you ring the damn bell at the edge of the court. It's not always easy to point team mates to it, especially when many of them don't pay attention to the chat. There are many players who are, by the way they conduct, relatively experienced, but ignore this mechanic altogether.

Yea I agree with that, the cinematic video should indicate that sort of thing because, for example, in my case, is preety annoying that I`m the one who always ring the bell, and it doesn`t matter which role I play (healer, DSP). NOBODY DOESN`T EVEN BOTHER TO RING THAT DAM F**KING BELL!!!
When I say: "Please, I need some camper at the bell!" Does everyone bother to read the chat or to listen to what I said? Of course not! They are to "smart" to listen to such advices!
They just keep digging in their own stupidity!

Do you need to ring the bell?
    Nope.
Does it help to ring the bell?
    Yes.
Do you want to ring the bell?
Go ahead, if you want to.
Do you want to stand under the bell when the Ying Yang circle drops on you?
    Nope.
Do you know how the Ying Yang circle actually works?
Nope. Because there isn't tutorial for it.(But yea i do)

"Do you need to ring the bell?
    Nope."
Actually yes! if the team is formed by lowbies (lvl 6-15) and nobody cares about the bell, then yea I should ring the bell because otherwise we will lamentably fail the alert. Do you want that? Nope.

"Do you want to ring the bell?
Go ahead, if you want to."
Yes (that`s preety annoying when in 9 out of 10 alerts done by me is only me at the bell) if nobody knows/don`t care about how important is to ring the bell and you are the only one who know that!

"Do you want to stand under the bell when the Ying Yang circle drops on you?
    Nope."
It doesn`t drop everytime! It`s a random thing!

"Do you know how the Ying Yang circle actually works?
    Nope.(But yea i do)"
Actually I do from other players when the alert becamed live! And if you do, congratualtions! You know something a little more about the alert then the rest of the ppl who farm it!

"Don't pug, if peoples "stupidity" grinds your gears."
I don`t "pug" anybody! Others do! If I really want to farm the gear I could actually do some UNITY missions!

"Because there isn't tutorial for it."
You can always ask other ppl if you are really courious what it really do (you means here anybody else)!

...am I the only one who say the GIANT SHINING BELL and immediately thought "...probably gotta ring that at some point", then when yellow circles started appearing when they hadn't before immediately thought "Probably gotta ring it now" ?

Well I mean clearly I'm not since there are people in this thread who figured it out... so I guess I should say how is it not stupid obvious to everyone? I think some people know about the bell, but they just don't wanna ring it because they wanna dps or are tanking.

I don't think it could be any more obvious unless in the cinematic Hi-Pan literally walks over to the bell, points at it, and says "This bell will unsummon..." then walked over to the dragon, pointed at it "this dragon, which is important because it..." at that point the dragon puts down a fire breath circle, hi pan walks over to it and points at it "...causes these damaging circles to appear."

Personally I just tank frying pan and ring the bell... because it feels good.

Add: Personally I think MMOs are too full of hand-holding and "before you go in" explenations. It bugs me in other mmos because the prevailing attitude is "Okay before you go do this fight, watch a video on how it's done". I like a little mystery. And this is certainly a very very little mystery.

LOL, smoochan I love your sarcasm! You really make me laugh!

Anywayz, seeing the Hi-pan explaining how bell and yin-yang circle works in that cinematic, it would be a fun thing to see!

I don't go into custom Alerts as a lowbie. If I'm on a team with a bunch of lowbies, I can run over and ring the bell to try to save them, lowering my DPS significantly, or I can just block before the dragon hits me, and keep tanking Hi Pan.

If the lowbies are so situationally unaware that they're going to stand in an icon on the ground - which universally means "MOVE NOW" in any game I've played - then so be it. If they're low enough level that that's going to one-shot them, then they weren't doing enough damage to warrant the aforementioned massive dip in my DPS.

That would be conclusive if it was the only bell of its kind in the area. Alas, it isn't. You pass by at least one other bell like before you reach the highest platform, and I think there is also one on the platform at which you start - I am not quite sure right now. I did suspect there was something to that bell when I saw the first. But not when I saw the second. Besides, there is no logical connection between the action and the dragon disappearing. He just stops frying the enemies of his master because someone rang a bloody bell and then comes back after a minute or so? Why would he do that.

Keep in mind what this thread is about though. The problem was never that I found it hard to find out. I am a team player, even though I usually play a ranged damage dealer I listen to the chat, watch the health bars of my team mates and keep track of who might have more aggro than they can handle. And of course I notice when someone does ring the bell. The problem is that it would run more smooth and a lot of team wipes (or in some cases everyone except myself, but as a ranged damage dealer all I can do is keep my block up and use evasive maneuvers and gas arrow once I got aggro) would be unnecessary if more people understood the topic.

We may agree on that. There are games where you just have to read and learn the rules. No one will ever become a gorgeous chess player by staring at the board in wonder. But MMOs are about entertaining content and stories; the fun of a game is not merely the abstract motion of pieces on a board, but a concrete scenery. To me it would be like reading the scripts of a film before I watch it in cinema, just so I can make smart comments to my friends on it while it's running.

I agree with you that there's too much handholding in games these days. People seem utterly incapable of figuring out even the most basic things...

I mean, in Star Trek Online, the most common question we heard on Earth Spacedock was "Where's the Admiral's Office." It was only a giant flashing door with a huge "Admiral's Office" sign over it, literally right in front of you when you first beam in... and people couldn't even find THAT.

I often wonder how today's gamers would handle the older games that actually made you THINK and LOOK for things, like Zork, Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master and so forth.

You have to stand extremely close to a glowie to see it glow. I think it's about 10 meters as I perceive distances in the game. So... about 30 - 35ft. For comparison: Most of my powers have a range of 100ft. Focused shot has 120 ft.

While you may or may not be correct with your criticism, I believe that what smoochan was referring to in the given context was a reply to decorumfriends' statement:
First, I read the Wiki and watched a YouTube of someone else doing it.

As I understood she was rather criticizing that the player was, in some contexts, expected to read the "solution" to a given new encounter, adventure by out of game sources, rather than enjoying the the new content unbiased as is... Champions Online is a bad example for that, but, to take an example from a game I know: In Star Wars: The Old Republic, if you make an operation and didn't read the description and watch the videos before the first run, or you do not 100% fill the equipment requirements that most guilds define for an operation, at least on a higher level (i.e. not story mode), you risk being fired from the guild.

Well, I am not saying that the cinematic should tell the player what the bell does, only indicate that it does have a meaning.

While you were able to figure it out easily it's actually neither obvious nor logical for the reasons I detailed above. Though I do have a feeling we won't come to agree on that.

Hell I'll ring the fricking bell just as soon as Hi Pan stops trying to kill me for a bit and picks on somebody else.

Could somebody point me at a thread on how not to do too much DPS in an alert or maybe what to do when your squishy turns into the tank.

I rather play games that encourage strategy without the game telling me how to beat a boss before I even get to him.

All the fun is figuring out how to defeat them. And if your teammates don't know how to do defeat a villain the most efficient way, be a hero and save the day.

Well you know what. If 5 people end up in Hi-Pan together and none of them can piece it together, I feel warm inside knowing they're probably going to fail, or at least have a hell of a time succeeding. At least someone around here should be under the impression that this game has challenges.

Chances are when you're trying to get out of the Yin-Yang that Hi Pan so often uses, you'd run towards the vicinity of the bell to immediately notice the interactive shine and pop up.

If everything was made so glaringly obvious then you might as well be playing a glorified tutorial mode equivalent to your first encounter with Black Talon, instead of an actual boss battle where the challenge involves something other than getting their total health points to zero.

Figured it out almost immediately on the PTS. But then again, from what I've experienced on Live, your typical alert-farming-junkie seems to have an IQ of just 3 above plant life, is so fresh out of the tutorial they don't even know how to move their feet around fully, or might just be playing intoxicated or in a sleep deprived stupor. Call me biased, but since the alert format came out, the teamwork and personal skills of your typical player has plummeted to new lows (even knowing how & when to block is a "huh?" concept to most people in alerts it seems).

I agree whole-heartedly. While a tooltip might be nice if it ran just one, having an unskippable "explanation" cutscene everytime you enter a fight is just annoyingly repetitive and unnecessary.

There's some point where you have too look at the newbies (or noobs who refuse to learn) and just shrug and say, "How about learning to play better?" (aka. "L2P") This isn't to be done rudely, but there's a point in time where it's enough of the hand holding, you're out of the tutorial, it's time to sink or swim. Ya feel what I'm saying?

I don't think that it is anyhow possible to make the cutscene when you reach the highest plateau even more annoying than it already is. I think they are trying to make Hi-Pan funny and with his appearance in the low levels there were some funny moments. How long does it take him to communicate that he's just another mad super villain who wants to "rule the world". A villain without a cause. One minute to communicate a concept that fits in 3 seconds? By repetition and reformulating the idea. I hate every split second of the existing cut scenes.

First one I tried I had no freakin' clue what I was doing and felt like I looked like an utter turd to the rest of the team, so I decided to do my homework first from then on.

Just to refresh my memory on whether or not the interaction shine on the bell is easily noticeable once you enter the area, I just did a Hi Pan alert. It takes a second to notice the bell shining upon getting close to where Hi Pan is situated at the beginning of the battle.

    No more excuses.
