I have solved this issue by wearing a full helmet at all times!

I can't... bunny ears and helmets don't mix sadly :frown:

In City of Heroes, emotes were 50 cents each, or $1 for ones that required work from both an animator and a VFX artist. They'd also come in packs of 8-10 for $5.

Of course, there were people who thought that everything added to the game should be free for subscribers (some even claimed everything should be free for everyone). Other than those people, I never saw a complaint about emote prices over there. It sounds like most people here would be happy with similar pricing.

I also miss CoH's option to buy individual pieces from bundles. I'd buy the Air Guitar for a dollar, but I'm hesitating at spending $5 on it (and 4 emotes that I'd never use). But since that's never been an option here, it's a matter for a different thread.

The emotes were never tested with regular heads. And it shows in a horrifying way.

The face is a little silly looking, but it works fine on my toon.

Been waiting to buy emotes for two years.

Bard AT is next up right?

White Noise no longer has to {play blistering guitar solo} {Aids you with stairway to heaven} she can now air guitar. (actually she will still {plays first lead break from painkiller})

Powers from guitars would be ace.

If it does really well, I hope you look into the currently unavailable but apparently marked as unlock items listed in the post http://co-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=3188101&postcount=69. You could likely form several solid mini-costume packs by grouping those parts, the assets apparently exist (on at least some level), and I assume they would be purchased with extreme enthusiasm.

Defender's boots are missing from that list no? Could even add Shadow D's chest piece to it (the helmets should be exclusive to avoid clones).

I wonder if the dinosaur NPC heads would be compatible with our toons.

I'm disappointed that emotes are being sold instead of just added. I would have wished that what is being added to the C-Store was much more interesting. I would have rather seen become devices (not vehicles), costumes, or even power sets sold in the store. I was told by another gamer that the CO community asked for emotes to be sold? It is my own fault for not playing as often/much at all when the vehicles came out.

Despite my disappointment, perhaps this could be a sign things are turning around with the game's development.

First, THANK YOU for making something we've been asking for! (see the "create an emote" topic in my signature below, along with various other topics in the suggestions forum)

Second, to those who are complaining about the price: It's actually CHEAPER than what some emote pack costs in some other MMO games (i.e.: Electronic Art's Battlefield Heroes). In fact there each emote costs $2. Just like how people complain about the prices of keys here being $0.90 when a key for TF2 is $2.50 and only gets you a hat.

The only two things which I find are overpriced are Rank Up Catalysts and Z-Store consumables (i.e.: Teleport packs, Heroic Recoveries, Triumphant Recoveries, Sidekick devices, etc.)

This is the only emote that CO is missing - IMHO.
    The_Thinker_Rodin-2.jpg

Hardly the only one, but definitely a good one to add!
New emotes are arriving in Champions Online, with the new Dance Emote Pack unlocking five new emotes for 475 ZEN, including the much-anticipated Air Guitar!

Get into Caprice one more time for some chords, because all of these dance-themed emotes are going to make you a juke box hero.

    (Direct link in C-Store)

This is a little bit of an experiment for us. If this pack does well, we'll probably end up releasing more in the future.

Something other than lockboxes? Something the community has been begging for years to get?

    SOLD!

Got my money-vote, bring on the releases!

Now that LordGar knows how to make them, it's not excessively difficult. There's a good-sized list of emotes that are unreleased, and there's enough fodder for additional packs... again, assuming that the pack does well.

Well goodness sake why are y'all holding out on auxiliary content?! Release 'em already!

(Note: There's a pretty hard limit on how much we can do, though, because while using these unreleased emotes isn't too hard, making new emotes definitely is. Just like this one, any possible future emote packs would be made of previously-unreleased emotes.)

(To head off a question players will probably ask, no, we can't use the NW emotes -- they adapted CO emotes into the NW configuration, but there are tech difficulties converting their emotes into CO.)

Use Maya? I can make the animations myself with Maya. I don't really understand the tech difficulties argument coming from professionals. (read: getting paid to develop makes you a professional, instead of an amateur. Higher standards are expected of professionals.)

If an amateur like myself can do it (and actually has done it going back to highschool with Half-Life mods), what exactly is the limitation?

I am thinking the answer is "time". Sadly CO has rather tight resources... so they are going to go and invest that "developer time" in stuff that will give them a return in the long/short run.

I don't think doing animations could be a terribly long process... doing high quality animations on the other hand it might be.

Dunno that's my 2 cents on the mater... but hey! I am all up to seeing some of the emotes and costumes that have been locked... there are some sweet pieces I would love to have, like Valerian arm straps for instance... or the heroic stance that has the arms over the hips!. It's a quick and easy way to generate revenue that I am all up to pay.... actually anything that is not a lockbox or vehicles, I am willing to pay lol.

I bought 1,500 high quality royalty free motion capture animations for $99 a few years back.

Took me a day to write a program in Lua that batch processes them from
the standard motion capture BVH format to our custom animation format.

A few months later I bought a bunch of cheapo 3D models online and set up a
production pipeline to rig them, wham, bam, one night of work I had
an army of zombies and civilians that could dance, answer phones, eat sandwiches. whatever.

Each of those was a days time and I haven't the slightest idea what I'm doing.

They could add more emotes but I don't think that sells the game, not this late in its' life.

Emotes didn't bring players swarming back to this game, especially when Steam is selling AAA
titles to twelve million subscribers for less than Cryptic is selling emotes to the handful of
players it has left to advertise to. Secret World didn't surpass STO's population on Steam
because of gameplay or because they added Gangnam style, it got where it is after
dragging its rear end for a year because it is 50% off again while millions of people are looking for summer sales.

12 millions Steam subscribers get huge discounts, Cryptic offers us an apology for $5.

    Damn straight.

There's a ton of untapped talent in this community if they'd you know... just give us the tools to make stuff. (3D modeling & animation contests, maping contests, and the Foundry; for starters)

TrailTurtle says dev-time is at a critical level as a resource? Well, crowd sourcing would sure as hell fix that. Sometimes a death-grip on the intellectual property is NOT what's best for the business in the long run. In today's software industries is all about being adaptable in staying on top of the heap. Take Apple's iPod and iPhone as examples, and also the backlash that occurs each time they trying to be overly proprietary.

Really, 475 zen for a pack of 5 emotes? That's an outrageous price considering all the issues and lack of content Champions been having as of late. Hell I haven't even gotten my monthly zen in the past 2 months.

People like you, who fork over cash for any overpriced piece of crap they dangle in front of you, are the exact reason the game's in it's current state. Why bother with quality or content when people like you will line their pockets with cash for any crap they release?

If you think Zodii here is part of the problem....then you have no idea what the problem even is at this point. You're just splitting hairs on a pricepoint as the world, almost literally depending on the patch, collapses around you. Issues and Content are not related to emote kits. Issues and Content are related to Issues and Content....and, honestly, it doesn't really matter whether people buy this or not as to whether those things get addressed or not IMO. This just determines whether they consider putting more things in the Z-Store for us to possibly buy or not. It's really that simple.

Actually it has everything to do with that. As stated by someone else Cryptic and PWE aren't a charity. They're a business. They want to make money while spending the least amount of money possible to maximize profit. It's the same reason those expensive shoes people buy are made by workers that earn a few dollars a day. Low cost, high profit.

Creating crap things like emote packs that include mostly emotes that already exist (they added a loop. wow!) costs nothing to create. Someone just copies some files over, renames them, opens then in an editor and changes a false to a true, and clicks save. Probably took someone about an hour to make the emote pack, and they're stilling it for 5$ a pop.

5$ X the number of people who bought or will buy the pack = thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.

Now multiply that by all the lockboxes they keep creating, which cost even less to make.

They are consistently pulling in thousands or tens of thousands of dollars while spending next to nothing. They've maximized their profit. What reason would they have to produce any actual new content? There's absolutely none as long as people keep lining their pockets with money.

If people stopped buying all this stupid crap, I guarantee some actual worthwhile content wouldn't be far behind to encourage people to buy again.

    You want SG bases?
    You want more hideouts?
    You want a new zone?

Don't expect any of this stuff as long as people keep buying keys and these emotes packs. They have no reason to spend the money on the development of any of this stuff. Just look at the last time we had a Field Report. A year ago. That's because you don't need a field report to say "We aren't making anything except lock boxes and emote packs with mostly emotes you already had."

What reason to produce new content ? To make more money of course. If they had the money to invest in CO, with any reasonable degree of certainty that it would produce a significant return on investment, they would do so.

And, for what its worth, thousands of dollars doesn't even pay one employee's wages and benefits here in CA. Tens of thousands might if it were enough tens. The amount of money you are claiming that they are consistently pulling in would qualify as a net loss.

I never knew business worked that way. I guess it's a lot like that time when Plymouth made crappy cars, so people stopped buying them, so Plymouth started making AWESOME cars.

I am going to encourage us all to boycott McDonald's, in order to turn them into a fine gourmet establishment. Quit buying your dern jeans at Wal-Mart, so that eventually they will become the purveyor of the finest clothes attainable in the States.

Obviously, businesses only release cheap/quick products because "people like you" are too dumb to realize that boycotting always leads to the paradise of absolute quality, so you keep buying those cheap/quick things that you want. Stop doing that, for the greater good of worldwide luxury!

I'll admit it's probably a lost cause. But damned if your last few posts on the subject in general aren't bleak as all get out. It scares me when someone I respect says it's basically over.

I refuse to accept this. It isn't over until it's closed down. Along with others I doubt the existence of a dedicated CO team vis a vi Cryptic north.

The silence from them (if they exist) is nothing short of super terrible. Until there is concrete proof that they are either the product of a 2 man interview, or all assigned to STO and NW, I think it's fair to hold out hope for a few more months if indeed they are getting acquainted with the new code. It is possible they are here and that we just haven't seen em.

    Apologies for the ramble.

I bought the emotes within seconds of learning they were available. And i'll happily buy more especially if they are ones particularly useful to my gaming experience and in-character playing.

People, myself included, have been asking for more emotes for ages and finally we got some. Many had suggested selling some and i supported that notion in theory and now practice.

The new emotes are a product, an optional product, which many won't care about and others will find enrich their gaming experience, seems appropriate to me for those who want them to be able to buy them. Infinitely better than random-chance gambling.

And this product allows them to test the waters of the large RP community in champs as a market. It may just start at Emotes and if that works encourage them to make other RP-focused products for the stores. Ones which non-RP gamers don't have to worry about paying for.

    I'll happily buy more too.

Agreed, there's nothing in the game that requires someone to purchase something form the Z-Store. It's all optional "shinys" for the game.

Don't like it? Fine, then show your dislike by not purchasing them. Do like them? Cool, then support it and purchase away! I'm sorry that, instead of being happy that some stuff was finally added to the c-store that others in the community have requested for years (even if it doesn't fit your playstyle or interests) you feel the need to crap on it.

We've seen from the example set by STO that slow, steady growth and effective monetization encourages Cryptic to add to their MMO teams and plan more ambitious expansions; in my opinion, similar things need to happen in CO to get the game support to the place where most of us want it to be. Obviously, growing the game in this way will be a very long and tough slog. However at the very least Cryptic should be encouraged to look for new ways to monetize and grow, even if they're not always going to be what each individual wants, because the status quo of lockboxes isn't going to get there. At the very least the emotes don't hurt the game, so lighten up on this experiment, okay?

    The cut and dry of the matter is this;

    1. Players will pay for emotes if you continue to produce it this way
    2. You will earn profit from continuing this experimental design
    3. Emotes are highly sought after by the player base
    4. Whilst the pricing for these packs might be a little steep (think maybe between 200-350 Zen? Or less?), it is a good idea.
    5. Players are able to gain Zen by playing the game and doing missions via the Q exchange, so these packs are potentially accessible to ALL. (I still would recommend lowering the price however.)
    6. Putting them in the Z-Store is potential incentive to farm missions to get Questionnite to get Zen, and will be more readily accepted, than the horror of lockboxes.
    7. I'm being serious, people prefer to see what they are spending their money on and get a guaranteed result, these emotes are a way to draw on that.

TL:DR: Make m0ar emotes and my purse WILL be thrown at you guys.

My apologies for giving the impression that I believe that its, "basically over." I don't. I do believe that the golden days are gone, and that we are not likely to every see them again. I believe that trickles of content and the occasional cool item available for purchase are the future of CO. Not on life support, quite.

I am not normally one who argues for, "settling," but there comes a time when even I must recognize that CO is not going to fully live up to the potential I believe that it has...had...and that I must come to terms with what it is rather than what it could have been.

My position is not that CO is dead, or even that it is dying. I merely have come to the conclusion that it is what it is and that changes to that status quo are going to be relatively small and slow in coming.

Of course I will be delighted to be proven wrong.

'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.

    MOAR Emotes please.
Another Hi emote, with just an arm raised.
Another Point emote with full hands (in some cultures pointing with one finger is a rude statement)
    faceplam emote
Boombox extentions to dance emotes (You have a boombox graphic at West Side High already, just add to the dance emotes as an extention and add music to it)

Emotes with effects, especially costume change emotes would be most appreciated. :)

YES!! And not just a smoke effect or teleport like you can use with travel powers. I could see a curtain popup or a telephone booth appear that your character walks into!

Hullo, I'm Bronx, and aside from making awesome machinima, I also said I'd be totally willing to pay money for an emote pack in a forum a while back.

And now that we have an emote pack, I have willingly bought it and am very much enjoying it.

    THANK YOOOOOOOOOOOOU!

And I will buy more, if more wander into the C-Store. Or, Zen Store, whatnot.

I have to be honest, if not for having nothing else to spend my stipend on, I probably wouldn't buy this.

Can we have a crossed arms and hands-on-hips emote in the next pack, though? >.>

I wouldn't mind seeing a few weapon emotes.
    • /e Gunsling for a pistol/blaster finger-twirl.
    • /e Heft_Launcher for larger Launchers being hefted onto the shoulder.
    • /e Heft_HeavyWep and maybe /e Drag_HeavyWep for Heavy Weapons.

Those are just a couple examples of course, it'd be great if we could see a pack for each weapon set. Most of the animations already exist in the powersets, so they would just need to be converted into emotes. I'm not sure how easy that would be, but it'd be greatly appreciated!

I'd like to see just a simple emote like /e WeaponBlade_Sheath/Unsheath and for those who have multiple weapons like munitions or gadgeteering, /e WeaponGun_Holster/Unholster_Pistol/Rifle/SMG/Shotgun/Bow/SniperRifle/RPG/etc.

Hell wouldn't mind to have a emote to have you put your weapon on your back! I'd spend money for that.

First off, Air Guitar and Shake Hips are just AWESOME. Very well done! Well worth the purchase for those two alone.

    Request:

/folded_arms - WE NEED THIS NOW (CO NPCs can do it all over)
/wall_lean - WE ALSO NEED THIS NOW (seen STO Romulan NPCs do it)

    Issues:

/dance_dj_mix does a very strange thing with your facial expression when you stop dancing. And it takes a second or two to move your teeth back into position when done.
/dance_cheer does an odd thing with your eyes whenever you do the double hand clap. Something with your eyebrows.

Yes please /me folded_arms and /me Sleep_Ground So when I'm in my penthouse i can sleep on the bed like in STO.

perhaps we could have a few more tailor stances while you at iot, I posted a thread about the irradiates/zombie walk stance earlier...

would be neat to walk like a zombie, in zombie clothing.... saying brain's without a become or being inside a Appoclypse pvp match

My friend Nat would love that!, he would also like a Tardis travel power.... but then again, he already has one in our Sand box MMO
