"Just when the superheroes and heroines of Champions Online thought they had enough problems to deal with in the real world, it looks like there's some serious trouble brewing in cyberspace. Tomorrow, Cryptic Studios will be introducing the first part of Champions Online's latest story arc, FATAL ERR0R. You see, the Champions' semi-sentient supercomputer Socrates is under siege by some sinister hackers, and it's up to players to act as a living firewall.
In addition to the usual globetrotting, players are going to have to go all TRON and head into the treacherous territory of virtual reality to fend off the viruses that plague SOCRATES. The cyberspace excursion will take place in a group instance ideal for two to three players, and players of any level can get in on the action thanks to enemy level scaling. Players who successfully stand in defense of SOCRATES will be rewarded in meatspace with snazzy new virtual-reality-themed costume pieces. Part one of the FATAL ERR0R arc goes live tomorrow morning, but in the meantime, check out the gallery below for a sneak peek at the copious amounts of '80s neon that awaits."
Lizards attack the one city with more superheroes than any other, which lends even more merit to why they're not at the top of the food chain any more.
Suddenly, RINGS IN THE SKY! We flew through them.
We did that real good, so Malvans said COME FIGHT ON THE MOON, STINKY EARTH FACE!
And then our city Computer broke. So we must fix it.

No, the final twist is that Foxbat was behind all of this. He set up the lockboxes and placed 'Cosmic Keys of Power' in the Z-Store so that he could fund the purchase of his Foxbatmobile 2.0, which we will have to race at the climax in order to defeat him! We'll need as many R9 Speed mods as we can get, as well as only the fastest vehicles available in the all-new Fox Battle Box! Plus, you can find new costume pieces such as the Steel Gauntlet of the Battlebots (cloth only) and the Kendrium Shoulderpads of Foxbattling! (jeans texture only)! Everyone goes home a winner, though: you might get 100 R1 stat mods to power up your characters, or maybe even 15 R3 mods! We also have Mercenary and Legion gear within the boxes, so you can most definitely defeat Foxbat (and get 70% dodge chance on an Invuln/Defiance character???) and save the day!
And alongside the Fox Battle Boxes, we're releasing the Archer's Parabox! You never know what you might get inside! Legion Gear? A bow costume unlock? A piece from the Archer costume set?!?!?! It doesn't matter, because the Archer's Parabox includes the ARROWHEAD Grav Bike! because bows are primitive and bikes are the way of the future!
*mfw I destroy a top tier vehicle with an archer character: <*
OK, so, tomorrow, I make a 15 year old Gadgeteer (hacker)!
This must have been the result of a miscommunication, and I apologize for that. The first instance in FATAL ERR0R is coming out on July 18th; we've spoken with Massively and they've fixed the text of their article.
I'm just going to subscribe to Massively, since they get information before we do.
This is kinda the way the industry works -- to get good coverage, we set up an exclusive with an outlet. For it to be an exclusive, we can't post ahead of time on our own site. It's the price of getting coverage. Massively tends to start work earlier than we do, so when I get in the office, I make a news post linking to it.
Hope that helps give an inside look at how MMO coverage works.
Yeup. I played through an earlier version of the instance, and I was pretty impressed by the story. I know that lack of clarity in storytelling has been a big piece of feedback in previous story arcs, and this one really steps it up.

So, it gives me time to get him leveled a little, since I only seem to get about an evening a week to play, anymore.

Not to be disrespectful to YOU, but...
Was that Cryptic North thing an exclusive as well? I mean, I'd think a studio taking over polishing CO would kinda be... important to CO players. Just sayin'. You didn't link that one. Not knocking what you do, or anything... just seems kinda silly to me.
Oh, now I'm curious if we're all going to turn into Security Processes when we go in (since they're the only ones that appear in the screenshots)... because if that's the case, then that's lame.
Seriously, being forced to become something else for a mission is almost always a painful experience. Resistance did it right and the Mega D's were optional, but still awesome. The finale of Aftershock was less awesome because we were forced to change and the forms we were forced into were astonishingly weak considering what we actually become.
If we have to be Security Processes, then this event ain't gonna be too fun.
Even so... I might make a cyberspace costume for at least one of my characters. Maybe...

I'm happy to clarify that: Nope! Between being a little rushed and being on a different computer, I didn't use my normal costumes (which is why you don't see any I.I. in those). I took a few screens of one of the less-awesome characters I had on that computer, but they didn't look as good as the Security Process screens.
Going into the instance doesn't transform you; it's an interior zone; and the only way to become a Security Process (at present) is by winning it from the lockbox.
Hope that helps, definitely let me know if you have any additional questions.
So is this an "Event" where it's something that will only be playable by players for a limited period of time and not be playable at all times by any player who wishes it (example: I cannot run the Lemurian Event at this time), or will this be a permanent addition to the game that I can play at all and any time?
I ask in such overly worded ways because, well, I sometimes feel you guys have been disinginuous about the nature of new things. Like the Lemurian Event. That was neat, and yes, I'm sure you will bring it back at some point, but I can't just go and run it on a whim. It is only playable for a finite period of time. On the other hand, the episodes were not events, and I can run Whiteout or whatever whenever I please. Is this more the former or the latter? Because I'd be pretty stoked if it's the latter, and a persistent addition to the game.

I spoke with LordGar about this one. He's heard the feedback as well, and the plan is that the instances released as part of the story arc will be permanent. The finale, however, will be part of a rotation.

Chance this will also happen with the Lemurian Pre-Missions?
Any chances for a myriad of actual bug fixes when this is done?

ok, that is really good news. thanks, that makes me actually feel a lot better about the game. please relay that to him. A lot of the negativity(from me at least) here is about no new perm content, and this is a step in the right direction. thanks. keep that up(and make some new c storp costume sets:biggrin: ) and i suspect soem fog will lift.
gotta say, i was really this close to deleting co if the event was temp.
We thwarted the Qularr invasion and sent them back where they came from.
We cleaned up Westside and dealth with PSI and Argent.
Rescued Witchcraft and began to learn about the threat of Mechanon starting at Snake Gulch.
We learned about the return of the supposed Doctor Destroyer calling himself Shadow Destroyer now, shut down his factory and on the side investigated some issues with Demon working with Shadow Destroyer and Dark Seraph.
We saved the manimal village from Viper and fought Teleiosaurus along side Qwijibo.
We stopped the Bronze King from firing the Mandragalore.
We prevented the apocalypse by defeating Therakiel. (thanks to time travel mind you)
And on the side we fought Shadow Destroyer head on releasing the real Dr Destroyer, liberated Multifaria, destroyed the Serpent Lantern, saw the end of the Qliphothic realm and had our first encounter with the Roin'esh.
tldr:
That's about it so far. I think that's everything.
If Fatal Error is permanent in its completion, than I'll consider it added onto this list. If the finale is not, than it won't be.
Was that Cryptic North thing an exclusive as well? I mean, I'd think a studio taking over polishing CO would kinda be... important to CO players. Just sayin'. You didn't link that one. Not knocking what you do, or anything... just seems kinda silly to me.

That's good, it's actually nice to know that the devs are gradually learning from their mistakes. It's just unfortunate that it took so long.

Yeah, here's a question.
When can we STOP getting vehicles and lockboxes and get more directly-buyable Z-Store content?
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"

So in order to enjoy the content in its fullest we have to open a gamble box and get lucky?
If that is correct I can see where this path is going to lead us.

Ok, I'll grant you this on the exclusive side but what about using Facebook/Twitter over the actual website and forums for this game on stuff like server crashes and other important bits of information? I could see using the social media outlets as an echo of what's happening on the website/forums but many times it appears the Cryptic doesn't even like it's own sites.
Also, I guess you could use the CO CORE for this....if CO ever gets important enough to count on CORE for anything. *
<Looks at bingo card>
This made me laugh. My only question is...are we playing traditional or cover all? IMO either sounds like a sadly short game.
I did make a Malk once who called himself the Nightwatch. He was convinced that the reason he'd been given the Embrace was because he was destined to be (strike pose) a superhero!
Except that he tended to do things like trying to administer the death penalty for double-parking...

Blah blah blah this is random stuff to make a wall of text about Champions Online's new thing called FATAL ERR0R and my thoughts about it. But really I just wanted to make a cool wall of text in-theme and see if anybody out there was smart enough to decode it.

Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends

4 screen shots as well.
On that note, I'm looking forward to the new cloth-only costumes that don't scale with body proportions.
Nah, I'm kidding. I hope they're pulling off something decent this time. That last thing was a joke.

You can play all of the missions (AFAIK) as your character. Your actual character. No lockbox opening needed at all.
