*facepalm*
Wait.
They simply copypasted star mask from CO Golden Age costume with only a bit more detailed maps?
Oh boy... That game indeed is nothing more than copypaste fest built on CO and STO.
It's not only mechanics, but even models.
Hint-hint. if anyone here want's to bother with NW Foundry or actual gameplay, take a closer look at devils equipped with bat wings.
They are using the same model as CO back piece, this most popular one for demonic characters - dragon wings big.
Yup, The same. Down to polygons, bones and animations. The only things different are slightly more detailed maps, but even those still look like drawn using CO ones as templates.
LOL... how sad @_@ its one thing if its a low budget low income small group of early 20s/ late teens indie game developers.... but for a corporation to do something this lame sad can be the only word to describe it that and travesty or how about...super lame. That mask doesn't even fit never winters "theme" .... zahinder, I understand what your saying about utilizing your assets, and I don't mind the skeletal sharing and model sharing. but make up NEW cosmetics for a NEW game
Point is, CO is never given anything in return. Not even few emotes. Not even non-mechanical vehicles (people were asking about vehicles like horses and others for magical characters, right?).
It's a good example how things are here.
I'd give Neverwinter a second look if they used some of CO's fantasy costumes that are actually good, as opposed to Neverwinter's ho-hum cliche' outfits.
Seems some people there seems so mature and so uptight.
Like mr. viking. I think i'll leave him to his constructive posting. I spilled my beer when i went to read his other posts.

you know after reading both, i really want to say some things to the devs of BOTH games that i really really want to, but if i do that i'll most likely get banned so i'll refrain
sad part is what i really want to say is SO very true and it describes the devs of both games and the company to a T.
They don't care much about CO. They're all but pushing us out the door. And, rather than give my money to them through NW, I'm giving it to SOE through DCUO. They seem to actually appreciate it over there.
So, it worked out for me either way. Thanks Cryptic!
When Champions Online used assets from STO (the emotes), STO complained and we didn't end up getting them.
But hey, don't worry about taking (premium) assets from CO! Nobody here left to complain...
Pretty much this.
Lets complain that they get it when we had to pay for ours so it gets pulled. Or otherwise just port over the emotes they took from us. (The emotes still exist, they were just removed from the command list we have access to.)
It would take about 5 minutes to create that asset (the mesh, at least) in whatever 3D package Cryptic's devs use. An art team just created an entire gameworld for NWO; there's really nothing cynical about any minor resource sharing that does occur.
That star has different geometry, and so different UV coordinates. Cryptic's artists would save virtually no time at all by re-using that asset.
Heh, they're already claiming it's completely different because of a few extra polygons.
Yeah, I read that and that was odd. They're the same asset. I don't really care. But for like 5 pages that one poster was clinging to a variation in graphics settings as proof that they're different assets? Weird and dumb.
It's not the same geometry, not the same UV coordinates, not the same normal & spec maps, and is worn by entirely different character models.
Truth be told, costume parts like masks are adjusting to character models, so it's hard to tell if it has the same geo or not. Character models between Cryptic games share at least bones, since they can share animations.

It's rather different around the nose bridge area.
But more to the point, I don't really see why it'd be a problem to share resources even if they did/do.

It's been said before why some of us would have an issue with it. The last time resources would have been shared was the addition of some emotes made in STO. When the complaints came in that CO was getting stuff for free that STO players would have had to pay for, it got yanked from CO. Now, NW is getting something for free that CO players have to purchase. It may look slightly different but it functions 100% the same. The same way an air guitar emote can and often will look slightly different on a CO character than a STO character due to body sliders and proportions. Nitpick about polygons and geo all you want, the basic premise of the argument holds merit.
Here's my question to anyone who sees this as unfair treatment while currently playing NWO more than they do CO or even entirely so, especially having bought ZEN for use with the NWO more than they do for CO or even not at all:
You've shown that you're in support of Cryptic's new product. You've shown that even with the sad state of things with CO, it doesn't stop you from moving on to playing NWO.
Considering this, do you think you have any solid ground to complain about NWO copying stuff from CO? After all, the mask is just an asset from the game you hardly play or don't even play any longer, why complain?
I don't think it's fair or unfair. The Starmask was just so obvious if you've played CO. They can fling stuff back and forth all they like.
And i play NW, since it's has something new to do. Have i spend or will i spend as much cash to it as i've spend on CO. See i didn't say 'will' on CO.
No.
Never.
Ever.
And i like what kind of rabblerabble this has caused in both forums.
Now just port some CO heroes/weapons/costumes to NW and see what kind of armageddon that causes once revealed.

So you're just interested in the drama and backlash concerning it? Okay then. But to address the initial statement you made:

Oh, yeah. Let me unleash Happifun Security System X-4 against those refugees from a RenFaire in NW - see how well their fancy swords fare against Invulnerability 3, or how their scale armor and shield hold up against Plasma Beams and Micro Munitions...
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
No. I just wanted to see if people have noticed same thing that i did and how seriously people will take it. I even added lil smiley end of the NW post. And it's not like there isn't enought drama on that side of the fence. It soon will be drowned under some new exploits and wrongly muted player complaints.
How can it be, since they didn't take anything. (Or did i punctuate wrongly again?)....

Careful now. While it may be laughable to bring swords to a laser fight, you don't want to peeve off their mages since the laws of physics don't apply to magic like they do to technology.

NOW I SWEAR, IF ANY OF YOU PRIMATES... EVEN TOUCHES ME...
Coming from CoH, I'm constantly seeing and hearing things I recognize. Wings, sounds, costume pieces, which is kind of cool in a way.
Honestly, I don't care about copying one way or another, I care about having a good Superhero game to play. But, after less than a year on this game, I mostly log on to say hi to my main cause I made him and I love him and he's awesome. He's all tricked out at level 40 with gear and there's nothing new to do or anything that's fun enough to do over and over and over.
Honeslty, that's how I feel about having a level 40 with gear in this game. All dressed up but no place to go.
Considering that I don't play Neverwinter, I just found the ported, updated star mask rather quaint. I thought it was just another game based on the popular Forgotten Realms property and I wouldn't expect a superhero-esque star mask to appear in a D&D setting. It'd really get a big WTF from me if it appeared in STO.
Seriously though, I've wanted the extra stances like the Cute one from STO since before it launched, and I'm constantly annoyed for almost five years now how this one way movement of assets seems to be going, with next to nothing returned to Champions, which is extra maddening when Champs launch revenue paid and paved the way for STO and NW development.
Some idiots over at STO even made a stink when we almost got the Air Guitar emote here for free. Nobody seems to care it's in NW for free now though.
Yes, Nepht is here to help us thank her later. I'm unsure why she believes we'll need the help, but I stopped trying to figure out why people do things years ago.

So?
They have a lot of art assets. The point of having one engine is to save on development.
Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?
Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?
Into the Fen Wood: NW-DL89DRG7B : Enter the heart of the forest. Can you discover the secret of the Fen Wood?
...and if they didn't just copy it from CO...and made something better...you would be complaining about that instead.

But I'm not even mad.
It's not even surprising, not anymore.
It's sad at best.
Taking good stuff from one game to the other is good, the best of having one engine in 3 games is sharing resources and costs.

I DO NOT want more fantasy elements in CO. How many powers are in the sorcery set already? Just, not my thing, yuck.
However, if there is a new system or something interesting that can be tweaked for superheroes- then so be it.
