Telepathy Powers Preview

The Telepathy powerset review is on the Public Test Server now, with reworked mechanics and a slew of new powers that make Telepathy effective at controlling and damaging enemies.

GentlemanCrush, the powers designer behind this review, has written up a preview of these new abilities and the design decisions behind them. If you'd like to help playtest them and give feedback, subscribers can hop on PTS now. These powers are going to go through several more rounds of iteration before going live, so we haven't put any kind of launch date on them, but stay tuned - we'll keep you all updated when we get within sight range of launch.

    I approve. Here's hoping Master of the Mind has different look options similar to pets and can be color changed.

    Will this mean the #TelepathyNOW thread hijacks will stop? I'd hope so.

    I'm quite looking forward to the Regret mechanic, me. Mostly because, well, stacking -damage is just gorgeous. And as long as no-one detonates those stacks, it's a lovely stack of 10. After Cryptic-maths, maybe 8% damage reduction.

    I do have to say kudos for gc at getting this back up and running and onto the pts and hopefully a soon live patch. I'm sure those at the telepathy camp will be more than thrilled finally.

    Hopefully there will be some reviews of the might framework sometime within a reasonable time frame as well.

    3 new DoTs. And if I got it right, all of those 3 DoTs will be click powers, not charge or maintain. With Ego Sprites it will be 4 click DoTs. I just love DoTs. I tried playing Infernal Supernatural, but maintaining Epidemic all the time wasn't what I wanted. I really hope this new telepathy will be more like what I expect to see from DoT based powerset.

    I dd a quick test of these new powers and so far IMO they seem to work well both alone and w/other powers. But I want to have more time before it goes live.

    Can someone else detonate your debuffs? My only experience with this sirt of mechanic is Bleeds, and each person can stack up to 5 Bleeds, and if someone Ruptures the Bleeds, they only Rupture the ones that they applied, not others' Bleeds.

    Y'know, I don't even have a character in mind for this...I'm just so tickled to see a power update (particularly telepathy as it's been clamored for since before *I've* been playing) that I just had to chime in and say "yay".

    By "new stuff" you mean a "whole new map with new stuff", right? And buy "stuff" you mean "bad guys", right? :tongue:

    Sorry, my niece uses the word Stuff so often, we no longer have any idea what she talking about.

    Highly doubtful that it will. In fact Mind AT may stay exactly the same.

    Can someone else detonate your debuffs? My only experience with this sirt of mechanic is Bleeds, and each person can stack up to 5 Bleeds, and if someone Ruptures the Bleeds, they only Rupture the ones that they applied, not others' Bleeds.

    Yeah, but AFAIK, the debuffs can stack on each other.. I am glad this is just a public announcement..they need help before hitting LIVE.

    Is it too much to hope that this Telepathy pass makes CC work properly again? That way the Mind AT becomes usable once more. One of my characters below was a former Mind AT PreAlert and I had TONS of fun with it.

    You have already asked to much when you said "CC work properly again" haha.

    The last time I asked if these powers would work on Mind AT, it was strongly suggested a new AT would be formed out of these powers.

    I'm not expecting Mind AT to be changed at all, it would have to change SO much it might as well be a new AT, the play styles are so different, really they are.

    In fact..I can see the stat choices for this new AT being something like:

    PRE/DEX/REC

    INT/DEX/REC

    INT/PRE/EGO

    PRE/INT/EGO

    with the adjustment to Dex via crit chance/severity affecting these powers.. PRE/DEX/REC would be a goodish combo (but PRE/DEX/INT would be heaven for this AT and thus will not be chosen)

    Back when I was a Mind AT, Mentella was my first char and it was hellish to level BUT, boy did it have great controlling attributes. I could actually PvP with that AT and not get steam rolled and stand a fair chance, I even once took on two other AT's (granted they were level 39s xD) and won.

    Those days are more like an alternate dimension CO to what we have no, Ego Storm is...just...Ego Broke, the incapaciderps have killed off CC. Along with Placates, Confuses etc not working in PvP..its just gotten worse.

    Ah well, whatever the future brings for Telepathy, Telepathy Updates and CO, I can only hope it benefits those who have waited for so long for it and does not disappoint.

    Its a real shame since in all games CC is easily a fourth of all combat. Damage, Movement, CC and AoE.

    Heh, I didn't think they'd ever get around to this revamp.

    Well, at least they're making a new archetype, that's a small carrot I suppose.


    However, even given that, I was never into telepathy, so I won't be much concerned with this update.

    Everytime someone makes a character that is an copy of an existing superhuman, Creativity is sad :'(

    I guess along this new stuff to telepathy we can spect two more things along, a new lockbox with shiny auras or costumes, rare items (something like legio gear), and a PSI event... but I am really wating a new telepathy AT.

    So posting a picture of Psymon in his giant armor, and then not giving us that power is a giant let down. :(

    I am pleased to see powersets getting revisions!

    However...

    It concerns me greatly that they are not listening to balancing feedback. Imbue? Epidemic? And oh yeah Ricochet Throw when it was initially released? Very overpowered until we basically had to scream at them that it was gamebreakingly OP.

    I'm sorry but my confidence at the developers being able to take critical feedback and use it in a way that promotes combat & exploration fun in this game is very low.

    While I do applaud the efforts to develop new powers, and content but seeing that many of the new powers share the same animations of powers within the telepathy set (As well as other sets) the brand new telepathy powers just feels..........well boring. As a "Freeform"only character creator and veteran subscriber, seeing the same animations over, and over is repetitive and will quickly turn off new players. To be honest, I did not stay on for long once I realized all the supposedly "new" powers was nothing more but rehashed animations from ranged endurance builders, etc.., with new effects. All in all thank you for attempting to provide something refreshing for us all to experience.

    so why is it , that this Mentalism set is off int/dex/pre instead of ego?
    or are they other stats it works with?

    Hehe, I asked for this a long while back when they were first looking at Telepathy...Nothing is on PTS or has been mentioned that anything of that sort would be happening.

    They probably just took the most recognized mentalists namely Mind Slayer and Psimon as promo material..

    That's my best guess anyway.

    As long as they don't touch my beloved PFF. Battled long enough to get it up to par.

    INT = Manipulator Scaling
    PRE = Manipulator Scaling

    Interesting, I like the effect, just wish they would consider the giant Psi armor or the Psi pets like Medusa...That would be quite swanky indeed. How did you hide you holo-glasses?
