You have no reason to get mad. Don't want to get the costume piece as a bonus for the sale? Then don't, wait like the rest of us for it to be released as a drop on the later part of events. Or as a full set with a 5 dollar charge attached.
Don't assume the worst all the time. They could have put freeform slots on sale for 15 dollars and put the helmet as a bonus with them, and you people would still ***** and moan without noticing.....OH SNAP FF SLOT...15 DOLLARS! They could have put the 1 piece 1 PIECE helmet as a bonus for buying any costume sets on sale for 100zen each in the Cstore, and you still would have bitched about "Oh well I'm not gonna participate in it because they don't have the full costume set with the helmet blah blah, without considering, OH **** FULL COSTUME SETS ON SALE FOR 1 DOLLAR!
The costume piece may become obtainable in some other way later, I'll give you that. But I wouldn't put it past Cryptic to keep it an exclusive piece, even if they haven't done such a thing before.
I think the primary reason why people (myself included) are so mad about this, is because they took something most of us love the most (a costume unlock) and put it behind something which most of us hate the most (a vehicle).
Also don't get your hopes up of them fixing the materials of the helmet. I'm still waiting for leather Gravitar boots.
TBH, I don't see the devs releasing the piece in some other way - the batwing sycthe and teddy minigun from the Harujuku Twins sidekick device was never made available any other way...
OTOH, the piece isn't linked to the vehicles, just the promotion that's on now.. so I guess anythings' possible.

Long-time lurker here, just chiming in on this mess.
I started after Champions was F2P, about a year and half ago, and then went lifetime very quickly after noticing how much I was spending on the awesome costumes and travel powers. I still send money CO's way occasionally, and approaching the 600 day mark.
That said, they are doing this completely backwards. Release a Gladiator Costume Set (for the normal price), and, as as perk, get a complementary vehicle. -That- would get people spending Zen here, and match up with why people are playing this game in the first place.

That might be too much; a free $10-16 item with a $5 purchase?
A better idea would be a full costume set bundled with select vehicles (perhaps a Z-Store version of the chariot) at a discount, along the lines of the Power Armor bundle.

True enough on the price I suppose. Of course, at least to me, none of the vehicles actually seem worth the price they are set at. I think you're right that the Power Armor / Energy Slide bundle is probably more appropriate a model.
The costume piece may become obtainable in some other way later, I'll give you that. But I wouldn't put it past Cryptic to keep it an exclusive piece, even if they haven't done such a thing before.
Actually, they did both of those things in the past.
Shortly after Whiteout was complete, the Roin'esh costume pack hit the (then) C-Store, including the costume pieces that already dropped and a few more that weren't available without buying said pack.
The Winter Event in 2011 introduced the Candy Thruster Jetpack, which was gated behind a Steam account of all things, and as far as I know isn't available in any way anymore.
Yeah but 99% of the crying is devoted assumptions. <===that is assumptions without even analyzing previous events where something similar happened.
As opposed to your 99% naive assumptions? <=== that is assumptions made when you have your head in the sand and can never forsee anything ever going wrong even when there is an apparent declin in quality and care from the developping and distributing companies.

No no, you're just being a moron for the sake of being a moron... As we have REPEATEDLY said, if the costume piece was attached to anything else besides vehicles whether it be TPs, hideouts, costume sets, ATs/FFs or if not that, at the very least, a vehicle that's linked to the event, we probably wouldn't be here having this conversation. And I'd love to see the day costume sets going for $1, lol. I'd love to see the day there's a sale on costume sets, PERIOD. To think there use to be... Or just new costume sets, PERIOD. -_-
(aka it still needs to be patched in a later build but they're releasing it early now.)
I hope you're ready to be waiting a long time. I'm still waiting on a fix on the Fantasy shoulder piece... When did that come out? Two years ago? Yeah...
Show me an "Exclusive" costume in champions online. Show me 1 costume in the game that you only get 1 chance to get, ever and thats it and its not tradeable. I'll wait.
I'd say the llifetimer costume set is pretty darn exclusive. The Jetpack Candy Thrusters also. The 1k days Bird People veteran reward. While obtainable by anyone, 3 years is a godawful long time to wait to get a costume set.

The challenge was for an item you only get one chance to get ever. I think the Jetpack Candy Thrusters are available through Steam every Christma- er, I mean Winter Festival (I don't run Steam, so might be mistaken). The Lifetimer bits are available to anyone who gets an LTS. The Bird People reward is there for anybody who sticks out a sub, LTS or monthly, for that whole fracking thousand days (although I do support the idea of giving all the vet rewards at once to anyone who gets an LTS - by default, their sub is going to last at least that long anyway, no matter how long they actually play).
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
Technically, those don't count either - they were in the game for a long, long time, and have now been totally removed (aside from legacy items). What we're looking for here is something that was available via a one-time short-term special offer.
Mind you, I'd love it if we could at least get the weapon skins back, even sans the power-replacer aspects (after all, with most of those items, by the time you could craft them you'd already found something better anyway...).
Edit: I did just think of one item that fits all of the above criteria - hover boots. Those were available only by pre-ordering CO from (IIRC) GameStop, and were never made available via any other means later. Sure, it's just a gimped version of Flight; on the other tentacle, you could use them in the Tutorial...

Technically the Lemurian Ventilator as well, the event is no longer active so the item no longer drops.
Backpack Gadgeteer is the only preorder unlock still unavailable.
All the Scourge/Cursed items as they were bound to a grab bag that's no longer available.
Rock items as well, but they have re-released some mountain grab bags.

Except that's not what aries asked for. He asked for costume parts that were non-tradeable and a one time thing.
Those stipulations would exclude:
All the cursed and scourge pieces. (tradeable)
All the Rock pieces. (tradeable)
The Lemurian Ventilator (tradeable)
The old weapon skins from power replacers (tradeable)
Steampunk Jetpack (tradeable)
Yeah, this is just dumb. The Z-Store vehicles could at least be top-tier, but noo, you're paying the price of 2-4 costume sets for a Mediocre version of the already-mediocre vehicles. At least in STO the ships you can buy for real money are actually good. A single costume piece is not going to make that deal any less awful. Compared to this, the Harajuku Twins "combo" ripoff actually looks almost decent.
Why is everyone bashing the Harajuku Twins purchase? I think it was actually worth it and should be encouraged to add more stuff like that. $2 for a temporary yet decent device and two costume parts? Better than any lockbox.

Exactly, I bought it just because I'm a sucker for silly animu chicks, but when I found it had two FREE costume pieces included, I was surprised and pleased.
It's $2 for any other Sidekick. The Harajuku Twins are $2. The first time you buy them, you get a couple free costume pieces. Where's the ripoff?
If you're after the costume piece, it's several times more expensive than any other piece, and you get a meaningless sidekick device that runs out. I don't know many people that actually spend money on the sidekicks, they're pretty much a straight waste of money.
Ive got many, if not all, of those on multiple accounts. Not sure that something that can be attained multiple times counts as available one time.
Because they now have been remove from the game... If you've been playing the game a lot pre-Alert then, sure, chances are you got a bunch of them, but if you were to start playing today for the first time it would be next to impossible to get them. The only way to get them now is from people owning the unlocks from pre-Alert willing to sell them, and these are becoming rarer by the day.
