We still exist, have planned content in the works, and an actual future to look forward to. Unlike some of my recent main games that will no longer be with us.

Alot of sad news, on my birth month, here's another to add to that list.

Things like this happen around my birthday every year, which is why I dont celebrate it.

    Quite true.

Sadly not a whole lot of effort is put into retaining newbies or retaining veterans, so our player-base is low. This is something I feel will only be fixed with competitive pricing, new explorable content, and bug fixes (which btw includes spelling errors, incomplete or unclear descriptions, incorrect or unclear waypoints, or even spelling errors; in addition to the more game-breaking bugs.)

This YouTube series is a short and sweet perspective from two newbies playing together:
    1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEVBRlmr1nE
    2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kgqFAYOP-E
    3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2SszxHx8Ho
    4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoVrk823TUM

Take a look and think back on when YOU started the game. Sometimes I forget how amazing some of the little things are for newbies in this game, such as the costume editor, the first time you walk into the powerhouse, or even the "level up" effect

The sad part about Dungeon Fighter is I watched it crumble first hand. And there was nothing any of us the player base could do about it because Nexon never listens to its players. I can understand the whole thing where, due to the fact that their main organization is based in Korea so communication as a whole can be pretty difficult. But the main thought my friend who made this video came out with that I wanna share with the people here and whoever is listening up at perfect world.

"You aren't going to succeed if you can't respect the customers you have."

This should be a wake up call, not to the players....no, because we're here, and we do our part, we log in, we play, we form a community, we support our love of the game. This should be a wake up call to people involved in the industry. Because as it stands now, Nexon didn't just lose a game, they lost a huge amount of players that will most likely never support another Nexon title ever again putting the total count of games that they have shut down to around 4, maybe more, I might be missing some.

Thinking back to City of Heroes, I fully understand just how powerful a shut down can be. Anyone care to check out those NC soft statistics after that happened can go right a head, but I won't be surprised when you come back and compare the figures showing their popularity crash like a meteor in comparison to times before when CoH was live.

As it stands now everyone in the fighting game community is trying to figure out every loophole possible to keep players data in tact, or even suggest to other franchises to buy the game out. But as it stands now, and looking back at what happened to CoH, I'm not getting my hopes up for a transfer of hands when the lights go out.

I haven't seen perfect world make any full on totally stupid decisions yet, and when I mean full on totally stupid I mean full on rage inducing riot forming stupid. Lockboxes...annoying yes, but full on totally rage riot inducing stupid? Not quite.

I'm hoping that Perfect World is more responsible and more caring with their titles than Nexon. And I'm also hoping any moderators or anyone in an important position reading this take what I say to heart when I say, my game died because the people I supported didn't listen to my community.

I never played City of Heroes, Champions was my first super-hero MMORPG and to be frank that's only because I had about four people in a gaming community pull me (dragging my feet the whole way) over to give Champions a try. I gave it an earnest try and loved it as soon as I got my controls figured out and discovered the power of the costume creator thing. By the time I got my first Nimbus of Force device, I was hooked (second day in fact, I was already a level 30-something by then).

Ironically I'm the only person in that gaming community (Sector-Thirteen.com) that still plays Champions post-OnAlert, the rest of them went back to Minecraft.

That said, take special note that after I observed and listened to what happened with NCSoft closing down CoH, I have personally chosen never to pay for a NCSoft title.

    Let me reinforce that:

I won't even try their stuff due to a bad reputation. They lost me as a customer before I even tried their stuff, and I'm a proven big-spender customer too (~$400 in Champions, ~500 in Battlefield Heroes, and ~400 in Valve software products and gifts to friends). So yeah, my lack of business with them won't show up in any shareholder's report, but it does have a net effect in the long run.

Even more so when you consider I will go out of my way to dis-recommend people from playing Guild Wars 2 simply because it's run by NCSoft. That's definitely going to hurt. Negative advertising is stronger than positive advertising, and word-of-mouth is more potent than any other channel of advertising in terms of actually persuading people about your brand image.

Even Cryptic's brand image is tarnished by their mistreatment/neglect of Champions compared to STO and NWO. It's a fact that if people ask for my opinion on NWO, I'll bring up this as a negative point when listing pro's and con's.

    Food for thought.

All that said? Yes I'm (for the moment) happy with Champions Online. But it feels like for me the game is teetering on the edge of a shelf. I'd like it for somebody to put us back in the shelf where we're not about to fall out.

We have planned content in the works?

Let me guess: More temporary "events" content that does not promise player-staying power and more goodies we'd really want to have that are put in gamble boxes. Sorry about being cynical, but that's the current trend of things unless I'm given an indication that it's not. Auras? Word is on the street that those are being put in gamble boxes too. Lovely.

Being "happy" with CO being in the state that it is requires for one to really set their expectations at an all time low. I've done that. I'm "happy" that the game is still around for me to log on anytime that I wish, even though it's mostly stagnating and there's just simply very little for me to look forward to anymore. When I use open and end quotes for the term "happy" , it's because it's the same as saying, "there isn't much to look forward to, but eh, at least it's still around.". It's a very minimal level of contentment that might as well be called a feeling of indifference.

I have no pity for DnF's demise. To have any kind of attachment to a Nexon game is asking for it imo.

But yes, if CO croaks I will probably be a little sad about it

That's not what Nexon is saying. From the "DFO Closing" message from Min Kim:

"Sadly, Dungeon Fighter Online has not attracted enough player interest to properly service the game. Internally, we struggled deeply with the popularity of DFO in North America as the title is immensely popular overseas."

I'm pretty upset over DFO's closing, too; it was my other go-to game when I got sick of Champions. I leveled and outfitted a Brawler, a Battle Mage, a Male Brawler (yes, genders make a difference) and was working on a Male Launcher, Female Ranger (most fun class, barely got to play her due to one of our dedicated team members being really busy) and an Avenger. I never got a character to cap but I still had tons of fun playing DFO and it will be missed. Even if it was a Nexon game, it blew every other one of their games out of the water.

Here, have my Battle Mage. She was the second coolest character of mine, by virtue of giganto-combos, massive damage and being able to transform into an epic glowy lady with a magical murderhalberd of death.

300 million registered accounts but no one I know in Osaka plays DFO http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Fighter_Online would love your input on where these players are. I mean the games home market in South K doesn't even have a population of 300 million.

Since you made the initial statement regarding DFO's popularity, I would say the burden of proof is on you to produce numbers that contradict the statement of Nexon's North American chief executive. I don't believe anecdotal evidence counts.

Champions Online will still be around. Unless Cryptic finds out that its getting in the way of server space for their secret project. That's how little they think of it.

Unless we get a year on par with the year Resistance was put on live, I won't see it any differently.

    .
I'd say they are EXACTLY conjoined in my mind. the coh shutdown did not happen too far from when nexon became the largest minority shareholder in ncsoft...i claim no insight that makes the connection sure, it could easily be a coincidence, but at this point, the stench of ncsoft is all over nexon. pity about dfo, one of the few games with a "martial artist" class that went with a tae kwon inspiration for their animations(for male fighters, female ones were more pro wrestling oriented). I cant say i was a hugely active player, but that was something i appreciated in a sea of awkward fist-fighting animated "monks"

The game itself had an in game event about how many accounts it had. The burden of proof isnt on me the end of the day I dont really give two f@%ks. I am not really trying to prove anything, just saying the game was popular, there was no reason to shutter it. And yes we all know wiki is prone to non facts and typos. I myself think the number was 30 million not 300 but who knows it might have just been that big and if a game tat popular can die well CO can stick its head between its legs and kiss its **** goodbye .

CO is a good game. One of the last super her mmo with customization options if not the last now. But like anything its unlikely to go that is until it happens. In the mean time I'm just going to enjoy the ride. No control I have over what shuts down and what stays. But sometimes knowing death watches like a vulture give a good better appreciation for things. Like many people don't or camt appreciate the air in their lungs until they find themselves no longer able to breathe. If they pull through they usually no longer take those breathes for granted at least for a while.

    CUE PUNK ROCK SONG

When you know that it's all over,
But you've got a lot left to say
Then go on now, and do something about it,
Cause it's all in your head anyway!

When it seems that you won't make it,
You just can't give up on today,
Just break it down, and make ya think about it,
In the end you won't be filled with accolades
    Oh yeah

    You gotta find a way
We know these times are tough
Just try to seize the day,
    What are we waiting for?
    We have everything

When it feels like everyone is out to get you,
And your dreams are shattered, things will never change.
Always remember that I'll be there to help you,
I'll be the boy who will always find a better way.

I will make this on no crossing,
If your world it starts to decay
Go straight ahead forever you can count on me,
I will never leave you floating in the wake
    No way!

    You gotta find a way.
We know these times are tough
Just try to seize the day,
    What are we waiting for?
    We have everything

Crushing existence, what are we searching for?
Too much is there now and there's always a quest for more,
And when you think that there's nothing to left to like,
Just pick yourself up and remember that you're alive!

    Circumventing a Suspension/Ban
You may not create or use another account to circumvent a suspension or ban.

I noticed the dates 'until 03-10-2017', so this game is up until 2017 atleast.

Hey everyone. I've been looking into getting back into Champions Online. I've been reading that it's not doing so well and just want to know what this means to the community. How is the population in game doing? Is it still thriving and are there still lots of players running around to group with? I know there's planned content but nothing like STO or Neverwinter or any of Cryptic's other games, but is the game still fun to play as a F2P player? What is there to do in game? Are there lots of dungeons or instances to run in? What about end-game content and gear? Thanks for the answers and any other additional info you could provide would be great!

I can't make threads yet so I posted here :P

I believe that the forum and the game are two different realities, being the forum the endgame of co.

But someone who is playing more the game might give you a better answer to your questions.

Couple of new Adventure Packs/Comic Series came. Oh, and we have some New And Shiney Temporal Events, like The Nightha...wait thats gone, Destroid Inv...thats gone too, Lemurian Inv...yea, thats gone also. Oh, there's Alerts.
Never played as F2P, Freeform is/was too fun.
    Enjoy.

I find it kind of hard to happy in a game where the community gets neglected by the devs so much and i've heard that planned content line for so long now that i kind of just ignore everything that is said by anyone from cryptic, as far as im concerned its all a load of crap (im still waiting for my action figure to be granted to me on live from the harbinger pts event that was around 2 months ago)

Most of the people i know who played this game have voted with their feet and have decided to leave, whether they be pvpers or pvers, they've all pretty much given up hope of new content being added and that this game will ever be challenging again after that stupid on-alert went live and the op gear was introduced which basically made everything easy street.

Then you don't know me, micro. I'm still playing, and I'm having fun.

Maelstrom, as noted above, you can play for free (I am), and see how you like it. Don't depend on others' opinions, especially here in the forums, where at least two constant posters have baldly stated that they don't play any more, and one has stated that he actively discourages others (they never gave his favorite toon the power pass he wanted, so of course everything sucks, right?).

Stuff like this is why I urge anyone to form their own opinion and not rely on the forums to tell them what fun is or how to have it.

Play and have fun or not. It's entirely up to you. Nobody except yourself can do this kind of evaluation for you.

I want to join in this game, but I'm afraid to type "awful cosplay" into Google.

I'll second this. This game is enjoyable but largely abandoned.

There is a lot to play through for a new player and not everyone is discontented.

Superhero stories, done well, are about modern archetypes.

A Prootwaddle is one of the weirder player-character races in "The Fantasy Trip", Steve Jackson's first published role-playing game.
