Very sad to hear about this.

My brother-in-law became very weak and ill twice, once before an organ transplant and once after that transplant gave him ten years of life.

He sadly passed away but these times can either lead to a recovery or allow people to get ready for someone's inevitably sad loss.

Death is part of life but this doesn't make it any easier.

Superhero stories, done well, are about modern archetypes.

A Prootwaddle is one of the weirder player-character races in "The Fantasy Trip", Steve Jackson's first published role-playing game.

Damn shame, I've always enjoyed bsing with him.

Yeah, if it does go badly, ren cen needs a statue. Dude was with us for a really long time, and a constant stable presence. He deserves a tribute if worse comes to worst.

    Hey all, 8bit here.

I read the forums every now and then, even though I haven't played the game in more than 2 years.

My heart goes out to Angel.

An original Forumite. A fellow Beta player. A hero I adventured with for may an hour.

Someone could try creating a SG in his name and players could join it in fellowship. Name Angels for Caine?

Also, someone suggest it sending him some art work or a screen cap of his many heroic friends mains. Perhaps those involved could alter their heroes to add halos and or soul-patches. As in - image.php?u=34788284000&dateline=1341276160 It's just an idea.

Jennifer, I'm very grateful and a little awed by your openness about this situation and your willingness to share with a community of strangers. My prayers go out to the both of you. If there's anything that long distance friends can do to help, please let us know.

    Damnit.

    Damnit, damnit, damnit.

What to say? I never knew you other than on these forums. I liked you as you presented yourself here, but I never knew the person behind the handle. It's strange that it gets so real some times, even though it's almost imaginary friends other times.

So for what it's worth, from one semi-anonymous forumite to another: I'll miss you.

I guess there's no use in wishing for a speedy recovery (but I do! Dammit I do!), so I'll wish for no pain instead. May your pain be slight.

Go in peace 'Caine, and if at all possible, get well.

Back in the days when I still played this devforsaken game and was known on the forums as skytomcar I rarely had issue with caine. Infact from what I recall it seemed like he was one of the few who actually played enough to be in the know and make valid points if not always ones I saw eye to eye with.

Although he never told me of his illness at times it seemed he was one who truly needed the escapism of a good MMO. For its many flaws this ones ability to cater to altaholics certainly provides that well.

Im sorry to know that this world will be one bright light dimmer in the dark sea of chaos that forever threatens the shores of good and decent souls everwhere.

May the skies stay clear and the sun warm where ever you may soar to next caine

I'm not good at this stuff either.

Caine, best wishes in whatever comes next, and thank you for what you've given us. You were a huge part in making us a community, and not just in game.

Putting aside all the internet nonsense, regardless of what happens going forward, several people here have found like-minded others, and people we can call friend and that kind of effect on another is a pretty big deal that most people gloss over.

Caine's actions - creating the forumite channel, participating in the boards, forums and in-game, creating guides and groups - were all a huge part of that. It may not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but to some of us, and to me, it means a heck of a lot, so thank you.

Kenpo and Jennifer, thank you too for sharing this information with the rest of us. I'm sure it's not easy but its hugely appreciated.

So again, best wishes in whatever comes next, and I hope that given the circumstances, things turn out as well as they can.

Loren Update. Loren passed away about an hour ago. The hospice nurse officially pronounced him dead and the funeral home has taken the body to prepare for cremation. There will not be any viewing as Loren didn't want his body on display. After he is cremated we will have a memorial service here at the house. More details will come later.

    I'm sorry, everyone.

Sorry to hear the news, he will be missed.

I remember when I met him I was standing in ren cen at the mailbox and he complimented my gadgeteer "Pack Rat" for matching my colors in my costume with my muni and heal bots.

If the game veterans get together to honor him I will go. He was a good dude.
I do believe a statue and or AF should be in order.

    Rest in Peace 'Caine.

You will be deeply missed. A great loss for the community here, he had a passion for the game.

Sad, just too... too sad. Now, no more suffering, at least he is at peace now.

Deepest sympathies Jennifer, to you and your family.

    His character-concept description from the Pro Boards;
Among the clans of the Camarilla there is a name.
A name that brings a shiver of terror into the hearts of even the most feared Brujah Warrior...

    ...That name is Assamite.

Among the bloodlines of the Sabbat they are even more feared.
    There they have a nickname...

    ...The "Angel's Of Caine".

But what is only known among the oldest of the Sabbat bloodline is this fact.
That nickname came from ONE source, ONE reputation...

    ...ONE Vampire!

From the beginnings of the clan, to the diversion of the bloodlines.
They never missed, was never seen, and never left witnesses...

...Becoming their target was sometimes enough to cause an intended victim to seek the sun.

The hunter's hunter, the elitest of the elite...
    ...There Can Be Only One...

As my facebook post has already been posted here, I don't need to tell you that Loren passed away today. He had been having trouble breathing since last night and sometime this morning he went to sleep. As he was sleeping his breathing became more labored and then finally stopped. He never woke up and he passed away in his sleep. Even though he was sleeping we kept giving him the liquid morphine so he most likely wasnt in pain when he passed.

The funeral home came and took the body and we went with them to fill out the paperwork. Loren didn't want his body on display so the funeral home is doing a direct cremation and will deliver the ashes by the weekend.

This saturday we are having a memorial for him at home. Anyone who lives nearby is welcome to come. Otherwise I am sure Loren would appreciate anything you guys want to do in game for him. I am sorry he never got to see any of the artwork posted here, but it is beautiful. I have saved it to the computer and will print it out for the memorial on saturday.

I most likely won't be checking this forum or posting here after this weekend since Loren has passed. If anyone wants screenshots of his chars or to keep in touch after this weekend you can do so via facebook. If you don't have access to facebook there are some people here who do and you can get a message to me via them.

Thank you all for your support.

    AngelOfCaine

Almost 4 years ago we met in a game,
Not a day since were things ever the same,
Gabbing it up about games and our lives,
Evenings spent chatting about costume concepts and wives,
Long days spent testing game mechanics and builds,
Other days spent running around a virtual world for the thrills,
For we were heroes through and through,
Championing the good cause as all heroes do,
And then you vanished to take on another fight,
It was a fight for your life instead of a fight for what's right,
Now the fight's over and so is your pain,
Eventually I'll rest too and we'll adventure once more AngelofCaine.

That's a freaking bummer, is the understatement of the year. I've been pretty quiet on this, because I'm not good at this sort of thing. All I can say is that I enjoyed bantering with him, and I had some *fantastic* times with him in game. He was a rare breed, and an amazing guy.

The world will be a little darker without him in it.

    F*#k cancer.

I say we turn ren cen red, in honor of his main. Like tomorrow or the next day, I think we should all meet up in like ren cen 2 in red garb, and have a moment of silence. Say, Friday at 6st?

Losing someone always sucks big time, because a person is out of out lives and we will miss them. In the two wars I've lost friends, and I always thought of it like this...

He went on to a place where things are better. There's no problems there. More awesome than your brain can imagine.

Don't cry because he's gone, because he's happy. Mourn because there are people who didn't know the awesome side, and that's truly their loss.

At least is over, he is not suffering anymore.

It's utterly sad to loss someone, but after a disease like cancer there is the relief that he is not suffering anymore, it's over, it's gone, maybe gone to a better place.
