I was going to jump on the Llano boat, but I'm having trouble finding anyone with a 3530MX (might as well go for broke), or a 3510MX without additional graphics. At this point, I think I'm going to suffer with my Turion for a while longer until Trinity comes out with its Bulldozer based design, and probably 7000 series mobile graphics.
Configure with an A8-3510MX, 8 GB of memory, and a 640 GB 7200 RPM hard drive for $745. You can cut that a bit if you get 4 GB of memory, or order 6 GB and then replace the 2 GB module by your own cheaper 4 GB module purchased elsewhere.
It also offers a larger battery and a higher resolution monitor as available upgrades. It should be able to get you perhaps 40 frames per second in Champions Online at moderate graphical settings.
That ought to work nicely for Bones if he can swing it.
Someone reported getting that model with a 3530MX, but it's not currently on the options list. I don't particularly care for HP myself and their little ******* trick with the memory is infuriating.
I don't think the 6650m and GT540m are that low end in terms of mobile GPUs. I know from personal experience that a GT 240m handles CO at 1366x768 pretty well.
So I have a few questions regarding that thread you linked to me:
You mention that one should have at least a i7 2720, is there a huge difference between that and a i7 2620? Looking on the pcspecialist.co.uk site it lists the 2720 as quad core and 2620 as dual core. However the 2620 is listed as 2.7ghz while 2720 is listed as 2.2ghz. This is a tad confusing and I think i read that CO doesn't use 4 cores anyway?
Also, you say not to go near nvidia graphics at all, but its kind of unclear whether this is due to performance or pricing. How would a 2GB Nvidia® GeForce GT 555M handle CO at 1920x1080. I guessing not very well or at least mediocre?
And finally onto the harddrive / ssd bit. You say that a single SSD of 120GB would be fine for a laptop. Considering the amount of movement I'm gonna have to be doing with this laptop I think a SSD would be far far safer than a harddrive, but I wouldn't look away from the idea of a second large but slow harddrive. Would something like a 80GB SSD drive + a 5400rpm drive work well? So stuff like word and powerpoint documents get stored on the 5400rpm drive whilst CO and operating system stuff get stored on the SSD.
I've attached two images, one of the processor selection and one of the harddrive / SSD bit.
Thanks again for the help though and sorry for my lack of computer knowledge
well im downloading the free ver of this game and going to see how well it runs on my bfg oc 260 4 core amd 3.0 mhz cpu with 4 1/2 gigs of ram i bet i can push 60 to 100 fps
I have 4GBs of ram (2 sticks of 2 gb), when I run dxdiag it reports that I have 3582 mb ram. So I can see where someone might say they would have 3.5 gigs of ram on their PC. Perhaps that is what he is reporting?
I think I have an idea of what it could be in your case, Ashlocke. Windows XP 32-bit only supports up to 4GB of RAM, including that which is on your video card. If you have a video card with dedicated RAM (as most playing this game will), it will add the VRAM to the total first, and then whatever else it can support from the system memory. Alternatively, if you have integrated graphics, it may be reserving a portion of that for the graphics chip.
4.5GB is still an odd number though, as it would indicate more than a 32-bit operating system...maybe it's 64-bit and is tallying the system RAM plus the video card's dedicated VRAM?
Brain hurting. Reading....not so good. Just tell me upfront, is my new computer with an Intel Core i7-960 3.20 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366 and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 2GB 16X PCIe Video Card enough to run this game on full settings?

What resolution? That should play it at close-to-full settings. You'll want to probably go into the advanced settings and turn off Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, and maybe a couple other things, but you should be able to run it pretty high overall.
In the UI options, be sure to set Player Name displaying to mouse over/selected only. The UI and Fonts in this game have a huge impact on framerate, compared to most of the graphics settings.
Well I'd hope to play it at 1920:1080. Oh I also decided to go with the Intel Core i7-980 3.33 GHz Six Cores 12M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366 instead. Now, you can't possibly tell me that with that set-up that I couldn't run this on full and get at least 60 FPS.
Regardless of your hardware with the bits and bytes being thrown around, many things factor into running any PC game, especially an online game.
1) Other programs you have running.
2) Other programs that you have running using bandwidth (music streaming, torrents, videos, IM/VOIP, fractal art rendering, etc)
3) Your network setup and who is sharing it with you.
Wireless is terrible for online gaming because of interference potential. Airplane goes over, bam. An appliance in your house or a neighbor's messes with it, lag/disconnection. You get a cel phone message or call, lag. Location of electronic devices physically between the wireless transmitter and your PC can mess up a wireless connection.
Are you in a work, military, or university setup? Others may be ultra greedy with their bandwidth at certain times of day.
4) Your antivirus or firewall can be to strict and throttling your performance.
5) Your ISP, or one in between our servers and your PC can be throttling game traffic. It happens more than you think it would. EU and Middle Eastern countries get to deal with this kid if stuff a lot.
6) One or two specific graphic settings in the game your system may not like. It can be different for everyone. Take some time and patience to figure out what your system likes.
7) Have a router and/or network modem that is 1-2 years old or younger. You would not believe how much this can help.
The goal of playing PC games IMHO is to have fun, smooth framerate, and to be able to enjoy the gameplay/controls. I purposefully turn down many things in PC games visually, so that I have a fast framerate and minimal lag. I don't care if the game looks like a Nintendo 64 game, I want to have fast reaction times and a super smooth framerate
when i click play a black screen appears 1 sec later says default or lowered settings i have clicked both of them a click black screen apears again and 1 minute later a error comes ill tell you the ticket is 11544750 my sytem information is

i cant should have an other way would it work on pentium d on my dad laptop
Unfortunately, Pentium D and Pentium 4 are both very old and very weak, as far as CPUs go. It is unlikely that either system will play the game well, if at all. You would need a Core 2 Duo or better system and something with dedicated nVidia or ATi graphics.
System Requirements
If the system doesn't meet the requirements of the game, the game will either not run at all or give a less-than desirable performance. To ensure a smooth gaming experience, we recommend that you meet the following settings:
Operating SystemWindows? XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
CPUIntel? Pentium? 4 at 1GHz, (Mid to High Range Dual-Core 2.5GHz CPU or better recommended.)
RAM1GB of RAM (2GB or more recommended for XP, 3GB or more for Windows Vista and Windows 7)
Hard Disk8GB Free HD Space
Graphic Display3D video chipset with pixel and vertex shader model 1.3 supported. GeForce 4 Ti4200 64MB or ATI Radeon 8500 64MB or newer for Windows XP. For Windows Vista and 7, a GeForce FX 5200 128MB or ATI Radeon 9500 128MB or newer is needed.
I have a p4 2.8 ghz, 1gb ram, plenty of hard drive space, GForce FX 5200 with 256MB ram.(2x the listed min) and the game has a bad habit of crashing on load. Accoridng to this thread's first page, Cryptic is out and out telling lies about min sys req???
Your OS is taking all your RAM. The game isn't getting enough to load.
Let me see, 300 MB of RAM at the loading screen.
350 MB at the character select.
494 MB loading into an alert at start (disconnected earlier)

let me isolate this part then

hmm I have 420mb free right now idling with several browser tabs open and a couple small proggies. I can try closing out more to free up some. Thx for being more helpful than the other guy
EDIT:
went from 420mb free to over 800mb free and tried loading again... got the same crash error before even gettin the menu loaded even after the crash there was 765mb free
You're welcome. Appreciation is greatest gift for offering help to other person.
You could try to up the RAM by getting some memory chips. Couple of Gigs more wouldn't hurt.
And try disableing on-demand patching from the Patcher options.

unfortunately this dinosaur is at its limit never buy a dell again -.-
I have 2 questions.
1.Can i run it without lag on Celeron d 331 2.8 ghz.Single core.
N520GT-MD1GD3/LP - MSI-a
1Gb ddr 400 ram.
Wd500gb the wd5000aakx.
asus p5gpl x se
And what setting should use . I disable a lot of them but it still get laggy.
2.I cant log it in launcher with my sky90po name . But can with my mail adress. When i log in sometimes ask me again with no reason to log in 1 more time. And i cant log and here with user name (Sky90po, or sky90po) i try a lot and it wont. I made it 2 times but other 5 it wont let me in.
I did the math and all seems to be well, but I still can't get good fps even on the minimum settings! Here's what I have:
AMD PhenomII 3.0GHz quad-core processor
NVidia GTX 650 TI 1GB frame buffer
Windows 7 64-bit
8GB RAM
The best I can get is 25-30 fps on minimum graphics setting.
Note that I can play Skyrim on high settings without a hitch.
The GPU makes me super leery. I've tried playing the game on a Intel 4600 iGPU once. Had to turn settings way down, didn't have antialiasing, and it ran... Almost decently at 1600x900 resolution.
If your laptop has a lower resolution than that, I think it could have a shot at it.
Everything else, though, looks solid. After checking, your monitor appears to be a narrower version of a 900p resolution, so yeah. You definitely could run this game.

Yeah, forgot to write that down, but the resolution is 1440x900. So, if I were to download the game (which I'll have to look into cuz Mac downloads are always so damn different), how low will my settings have to be run it smoothly?
Comments
Configure with an A8-3510MX, 8 GB of memory, and a 640 GB 7200 RPM hard drive for $745. You can cut that a bit if you get 4 GB of memory, or order 6 GB and then replace the 2 GB module by your own cheaper 4 GB module purchased elsewhere.
It also offers a larger battery and a higher resolution monitor as available upgrades. It should be able to get you perhaps 40 frames per second in Champions Online at moderate graphical settings.
Someone reported getting that model with a 3530MX, but it's not currently on the options list. I don't particularly care for HP myself and their little ******* trick with the memory is infuriating.
Well, that's totally pointless. Which bright spark came up with this pairing?
Thanks again for the help though and sorry for my lack of computer knowledge
can the game handle your computer...
That said, a quad-core Athlon II or Phenom II along with that video card should run the game.
4.5GB is still an odd number though, as it would indicate more than a 32-bit operating system...maybe it's 64-bit and is tallying the system RAM plus the video card's dedicated VRAM?
What resolution? That should play it at close-to-full settings. You'll want to probably go into the advanced settings and turn off Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, and maybe a couple other things, but you should be able to run it pretty high overall.
In the UI options, be sure to set Player Name displaying to mouse over/selected only. The UI and Fonts in this game have a huge impact on framerate, compared to most of the graphics settings.
Hope that helps some!

Unfortunately, Pentium D and Pentium 4 are both very old and very weak, as far as CPUs go. It is unlikely that either system will play the game well, if at all. You would need a Core 2 Duo or better system and something with dedicated nVidia or ATi graphics.
That 256 is graphics card RAM not computer.
And the card isn't that great.
And playing by myself since Aug 2009

Let me see, 300 MB of RAM at the loading screen.
350 MB at the character select.
494 MB loading into an alert at start (disconnected earlier)
let me isolate this part then
it says 1 GB min is required not 2
hmm I have 420mb free right now idling with several browser tabs open and a couple small proggies. I can try closing out more to free up some. Thx for being more helpful than the other guy
EDIT:
went from 420mb free to over 800mb free and tried loading again... got the same crash error before even gettin the menu loaded even after the crash there was 765mb free
You could try to up the RAM by getting some memory chips. Couple of Gigs more wouldn't hurt.
And try disableing on-demand patching from the Patcher options.
