Whether they are intially 'Become Devices' (which replace your powers with specialised vehicle powers while you are in them) - or evolve into something more customisable...
Motorbikes, small but mobile jets, and super fast cars come to mind.
Actually, what I'm hoping is that they can be taken as a travel power that acts like a "become" device until toggled off, and that in exchange for, perhaps, less manueverability, you can get a substantial speed boost. Back in beta they tried upping the speed on travel powers, but you needed a certain level of control to really make use of them. However, if you have the option of bulky, less manueverable, but incredibly fast vehicles, that could be great. Even if they are stuck with outdoors only (due to small doors and such), a large enough speed increase would make them worthwhile, especially since right now there isn't that much reason to have two travel powers, but having a second one that is fast but harder to manuever in small areas could be alot of fun.
Burton-era 'Batwing' - vehicle shape alludes to concept - like NightHawk's looks hawk-like.
VTOL-type batwing named The Bat(in the Dark Knight Rises).
Tumbler type vehicle - become device powers; machine guns, rocket launchers, hubcap mines, turtling-shell (lockdown / lockout shell like in Burton's batman film at the chemical plant), proximity mines dropped out the back to flip pursueing cars (Nolan's BB).
Westside Choppers; (problem of whether tech will allow your toon to appear to be sitting on the bike).
Concealed bike pod ( think more tron-like but encapsulated).
Missions that have you pursuing a criminal across rooftops / along city streets at a fast pace needing you to jump into your vehicle and follow them on a tracking device you've previously shot them with in the mission-storyline.
* 50's shiny silver bubble-domed flying saucer! (Nice!, you could beam-up and beam-down from the become device when its signalled-for). Would be thematic and very cool to have Fifties-style UFO sfx.
One-man Lemurian Mole-man tunnelling scouting-vehicle. Like the stationery ones on Monster island, only smaller, perhaps redesigned paintjob.
Advantage over normal tunnelling? - faster!, weapons loadout on above ground-level.
I'd also like all vehicles to be restricted from Ren-Centre, PowerHouse, mission Interiors, local shared-world interiors and basically anywhere else they could spam and cause a problem.
Let's not get too crazy. I'd be happy if they offered usable versions of assests currently in-game. There's that bike in the Vigilante hideout, the cars in MC, the jets overhead in MC, and the VTOLs in various parts of the game. If they get the mechanics right first than we talk about variants.
Black or khaki van with tinted bulletproof windows for carrying around guns and rest of equipment.
I'd love (if vehicles were ever made to work with maps, ie; recognising buildings and street assets, lamposts walls etc) - that they handle a little more realistically than the moving vehicles on the streets.
I'd love to see a little camber and physics in the handling, even if its only a hint, because that would make all the difference programming team!.
About vehicles, if these are going to indeed be 'become devices', I'm wondering if there is any programming that could support additions to a player-device re: functionality.
I mean as far as different colours you could easily go the 'become brown wolf / become black wolf route' of differing coloured models essentially; eg; become gun-laden loadout / become stealth-plane loadout / become bird-concept livery loadout - same model, just with different configurations and paintjobs that make them look different.
I'd also like to add to my wishlist of an emote calling the vehicle to you by your tapping on your wrist-communicator. I always thought the magic carpet emote would be better presnted by 1 sec of your toon rubbing a lamp or throwing it out and jumping on it instead of it just; 'bampf' - and being underneath you.
So with regards to the vehicles, suddenly 'bampf' and turning into a car / VTOL / whatever - not ideal.
I think it would be best presented If however your toon called a bike and straddled it, or called a UFO and beamed-up, or climbed into a cockpit (even if its only a second or so or animation) - I think that would make all the difference. Still, wishlist 'n' all that.
* A small series of basic frames such as jet, tank, car, bike, winged beast etc
* Then some sliders to adjust basic proportions, not too complex but enough to stretch that car out or make it compact, narrow that jet like a dart or make it wide like a stealth bomber, just length, front width, back width front height, back height.
* A series of costume areas. Wheels/landing gear/feet, Fusalage/hull/body, Canopy/cab/turret/back-detail, Nose/grill/fairing/head, Wings, Tail/spoiler/fins. These to get some simple choices at first but enough to make the following- sportscar, limo, armored car, tank, armored motorcycle. Private jet, fighter jet, stealth jet animal-themed jet. Dragon, Griffen, Eagle, Giant Vampire Bat. These could be mixed and matched.
* A couple colour areas on each part and an emblem spot on the front/top/underside
* Transform effects. A small menu of options like: Teleport, hologram construction (like hologram-man and tron etc), smoke-cloud, sudden speedy arrival (vehicle is drawn a short distance away and drives/flies up to the hero at extreme speed)
When I red the State of the Game, I knew people would go crazy with vehicle suggestions.
Here's a though: The fact that they told us about it probably means that they already have their own plans.
- Costume creation for vechiles
- Remember magic users. There must be magic vechiles also.
- Them must be optional. All superheros does not use vechiles.
- Them must be faster than any travel power.
- Whole team can be transport in vechile.
I would love a winged horse a la the Shining Knight, the Black Knight or Valkyrie (images below)
It might not be possible for them to have your character on a winged horse, what about magically transforming into one though?
If they aren't fully customisable, or at all (please at least let us have colours, otherwise how do we tell all the same jets apart?) , we'll need a number of different styles to fit the different styles of the game.
* Silver Age Tights
* Pulp
* Golden-Age
* Retro Scifi
* Iron Age
* Hi-Tech
* Mystic
* Dark
(any others?)
We should throw out ideas for each of these kinds of categories so that if the devs are going just by wholly pre-made vehicles with little or no customisation that we give them ideas for each era and sub-genre they might not have got to yet.
Certainly my earlier suggestion of a shiny streamlined rocket or bubble-domed flying saucer will suit retro scifi. What about the others?
I really hope that ,as this is a SUPERHERO MMO, they make sure that the vehicles are styled and designed for the genre. BTW, I'm not a total elitist. I do realise that within the genre there are various sub-genres that need to be represented. Vive la difference
The most likely scenario for vehicles would be for them to be fully enclosed, and thus conceal or handwave that our character is inside of them. These could have a system where the power hue applied instead changes their fuselage color and could suit many concepts. Here's some pictures of what I'm talking about:

If there was going to be more customization, I'd expect it to be no more detailed than the level of customization we have with hideouts - maybe 2-3 options in a few places - like 2-3 base fuselage types, 2-3 wing choices, 2-3 canopy options, 2-3 tail options, then 2-3 accessory options - like fins, spoilers, antennae, thrusters, etc.

If its not become devices, I think it might be a system like the weapon costume unlocks where you can have a bunch of preset designs and can at most just change the color of the vehicles. So long as you have a become device. Which would be great because it would at least allow for future vehicle costume unlocks.
Perhaps a buying a 'become vehicle' device of a larger Quinjet-type of vehicle or Van (ie: big enough to carry other team-members) - would essentially give you a team-teleport power which the team would click to accept (or refuse and make their own way there) - on clicking accept it would show those members walking towards and into a space at the rear or side of the vehicle, which could be the back or side of a van or the cargo-ramp of a said Quinjet-like vehicle (for animation-cutscene purposes).
And let's not forget golden age and retro sci-fi vehicles!
I like the car in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (I know where the actual car used in the film rests btw having been behind-the-scenes at local film memorabilia company's barn-warehouse... hurry up if interested its not ageing very well, ps; I think he wants about £50k i think for it) - *ahem*, anyway, where was I?..... oh yes, - and the suped-up car the Red Skull owns in Captain America; The First Avenger.
1.- Just 3 types: bikes, cars and jets/helicopters. Each with different prices and different powers.
- Bikes:
Passengers: 1
Weapons: Light
Shields: None
Speed: Fast
Travel power: Only able to travel inside the map and inside buildings.
- Cars
Passengers: 1-2
Weapons: Medium
Shields: Light

Includes a small inventory
- Jets/Helicopters
Passengers: 1 - Full 5 chars team
Weapons: Heavy
Shields: Medium

Travel power: Able to travel anywhere (not inside buildings)
Includes a medium inventory
2.- There should be customizable or at least have parts that could be customized: colors, wheels, weapons, wings, emblema...
3.- They should appear in the hideout if the player has one. That could mean using some of the unused room of the hideout, for instance the 2 empty domes of the moon (if you're going to ask how a bike got to the moon just put outside of the dome an atrezzo shuttle). This room/garage should just have the vehicle there and you should be able to take your vehicle from there. If there's no room, do just like in the Black Mask hideout.
So people can buy the cheapest vehicle and have its functionality, then the medium priced vehicle with other functionality and the most expensive one with even more and different functionality.
There should be fights with the vehicles. There are viper's ospreys and tanks, flak and AA missiles... Nice fights.

I would love to be in a jet that can hold more than just me and has its own original weapon set.I support this 100%.Also for the hideout part,they can make it into a zone transport to any zone,really they should do that with the vehicle itself,I mean u have your own method of transportation now,why do you even need to ride that Jet in Ren cen,not to mention that riding that thing gets boring.

Umm why only two passengers in the car? Sure some heroes cars are two people only like the batmobile but what about Green Hornets Black Beauty? I'm not sure about The Spiders roadster as it's been a while but plenty of souped-up cars can still have some passenger space for more than just the sidekick.
I'd make the cars 1-5 too, the jet/heli can fly so will be faster.. considering millenium city has a fair bit of traffic at times it'll be WAY faster. And as for travelling in canada, the desert, monster island etc the jet/heli has lots of advantages even if the car is off-road or has Kit style boost jumps.
In reality flying vehicles need to be lightweight to fly and are more vulnerable to damage rendering them no longer functional. Swap the shielding. Jets/Heli should be light or medium at best. Cars however can be tanks literally and figuratively. A family member owned an old Daimler and the hailstorm which destroyed our roof and dimpled the mini till it looked like a golf ball and shattered it's windscreen just polished the Daimler and cleaned it's windshield so tough was the material in the old car.
Make the cars armoured and tough and capable of carrying a whole team.
We need to ensure that heroes of every era and style have a vehicle. Art-deco and Retro-Scifi and Pulp and Iron-Age and Mystic and Hi-Tech. I'm not sure just a little customisation will cover this fully unless there are a few themed versions of each type to build from.

Before I let my imagination run wild about this, I'd like to know if the vehicles are going to be Become Devices or Travel Powers.
For the later, I think they should start with motorcycles and hoverbikes before they take on living mounts, as inanimate mounts whould be easier to create.
I would imagine they would be devices.The vehicles would have to have a power replacement as well as a costume swap type thing just like become devices.They would just need to add special powers to them not available in frameworks,with the exception of micro munitions,and mini gun,they would make excellent weapons for the vehicles,especially copter or jet ones.As for the whole shielding idea.I think that most of the vehicles if all should mainly just have heavy armor that has better defense than regular players can get.Also They could put an option to instantly go from zone to zone with the device on,I mean we have our own vehicles now,why would we have to use that super jet in Ren cen anyways,as well as transport team members too,and go way faster than any travel power.

yea like jets that can bank and pitch when they turn without changing the camera angle than just swerve from side to side horizontally, also instead of that lame turbo boost button the should have a convert flight mode like you hover and move slowly like a VTOL in one mode and the in the other mode you fly like a real fighter jet but you can't stop until you press the convert button.
C.A.U.'s: We keep your dimensional problems in and the other ones out.... :cool:

We should throw out ideas for each of these kinds of categories so that if the devs are going just by wholly pre-made vehicles with little or no customisation that we give them ideas for each era and sub-genre they might not have got to yet.
