PowerHouse Character Planner

PowerHouse is an HTML/Javascript character builder for Champions Online players. It allows for the planning of innate talent, super stats, talents, powers, and advantages. Builds are saved by bookmarking a save link. And there is a forum export option.

It is similar to and inspired by championBuilder, originally written by Moritz Hartmeier and currently maintained by Roxstar, which is a Java application that performs a similar function.

Have a look at the Help section for some instructions on how to use it.

Please submit any bugs or suggestions via the Google Code Repository.

I have no idea. This program is ridiculously easy to use and extremely accurate.

Quite frankly, PW should buy this and make it officially part of the site.

No, i meant i sent a sticky "request" in day's ago for this (and the other one).

(The "community rep's" @Farmer/@Smackwell can't do anything until they get their powers back)

So i sent the request to StormShade, and nothing's happened yet

Hummm, assuming you have Javascript enabled in your browser, force your browser to reload the page so it clears any cached objects. If that doesn't work, give me more information... Your OS and your browser and version. I'm assuming this happens with any PH link you try, right?

    Brizel,

Hi! First off, I have to say I love Powerhouse! I use it all the time, as it's pretty much become my "go-to".

However, I hit a bit of a snag. I upgraded to version 0.9.8 from version 0.9.7, but now Firefox can't open any of the builds I made with 0.9.7. Each time I try to open one of the bookmarked builds from the previous version, I get a "File Not Found" message from Firefox, along with the path for the file.

I tried re-installing 0.9.7, but it did no good; even going through the old version, I still get the same issue.

I posted the issue in the Repository, but I figured I would post it here as well, just to cover my bases.

Any ideas how to fix the issue? Thanks for any help you can give, and thanks again for the Powerhouse to begin with!

So you're running it on your own computer? First off I don't recommend you do that unless you know what you're doing. Just use the web site:

    http://powerhouse.nullware.com/powerhouse.html

My guess is that the path in your browser no longer matches the path on your disk.

Make sure the URL prefix is correct. For example, if you have:

    file:///C:/Users/kyle/powerhouse-0.9.7/powerhouse.html

You will need to change it to:

    file:///C:/Users/kyle/powerhouse-0.9.8/powerhouse.html

Or better yet, rename the dir to just "powerhouse" so your URL's don't change with each version.

Now, what you should do is change all of your bookmarks to start with:

    http://powerhouse.nullware.com/powerhouse.html

So you wont have to deal with all of this. Really the downloads are there for people that want to run the app w/o an internet connection and for your protection in case I get hit by a bus and my website goes down.

Gratz on the sticky, it's an excellent program. My only suggestion, which I know is on your wish list, is full tool tip information for all the powers. I keep switching to ChampionBuilder whilst using your program, in order to check full power information. With this addition, it would be perfect.

Speaking of beta, here's what's currently on beta:

    - Fixed Power Armor: Mini Gun: Infrared Guidance System Advantage cost
(from 2 to 1). (Thanks to Lukas Smith for reporting this.)
    - Added Insert and Delete options to the select power pop-up window.
(Thanks to Lukas Smith for this suggestion.)
    - Fixed typo in descriptive text of Round 'em Up Specialization.
    - Fixed descriptive text of Fighting Claws: Dragon's Claws Power.

Have a look. I'll probably be pushing it to Live soon.

Am I missing something? This app is great for selecting powers, but it doesn't seem to calculate any of the stats. Is there some reason why this is omitted?

I'd like to know how many hit points my character has, for example, but I don't know what the calculation is. I know that super stats contribute more than regular stats, and I think they also scale with level, but I have no idea how it works. If I knew that I could set up a spreadsheet, but that really begs the question of why the program doesn't calculate it for us.

I also don't find anything for selecting gear, which I can see would be complicated because of the possibility of mods and the sheer number of different items.

Is all this information not calculated because Cryptic has left it, well, so cryptic?

Well, the main reason is that I haven't coded it up.

I don't know the calculations either. ChampionBuilder did a lot of this, however, a lot of it has changed and always seems to change -- and so, the app. must be frequently updated.

If I was ever to add gear, I would have the user just enter the stats.

I don't know what numbers or calculations have been given out by Cryptic, but I'm guessing, not much. I think most of the calculations for championBuilder were from people trying things out and taking notes.

Actually, this would not be too terribly hard, everything not SS'd or Talented would be 5 (the un-enhanced base value... I think it's 5...?), then just add the stats up via Primary & Secondary SS and the talents.

However, it seems like a lot of work for what basically amounts to nothing that helpful without a full-numbers type application - which would be onerous to develop and maintain. I imagine.

I think by keeping it basic, focusing on the power-picks and such, it's a much easier and flexible tool.

More detail would certainly be wonderful, but only if it's accurate.

And it's only accurate if you can keep it updated, which can potentially be a lot of work for no pay.

So... It's up to him/her/them if they want to keep track of all that. The accuracy and up-to-date stuff is what's most important, stats detail is secondary.

Actually before stats it would be nice if some of the descriptions were more complete, more like how Lohr's wiki explains things a bit more. Some of it has been updated, but I noticed many of the "Forms" (toggles) are not updated with their advantages or description on what causes them to build stacks. Some of us know this by heart, but it would really help out all the new people.

That sums up my opinion nicely.

The next thing I want to work on is updating the descriptions. It will take a long time to do them all -- I'm guessing about 30 hours of work (and not the fun kind of work). However, it would be very nice to have.

Now that you mention it agentnx5, I should probably just start with the forms, passives, energy unlocks, etc. I.e. the powers that are taken on many builds and those that you really need to see the description of to know if it will work for you -- with your Super Stats for example.

I thought it would be a good idea to allow people to opt-out of submitting stats to Google Analytics if they want to. You can now set this option in the preferences section.

Note: A site visit is still counted so I know how many people are using the site, but no other usage information will be sent if you turn off the option in the preferences section. Also, you will need to do this on every browser you use, since it is stored with a browser cookie.

The following changes have been deployed to Live:
    - 2012-12-18
       - Released version 0.9.15.
       - Added preference option to turn Google Analytics submissions on/off.

The HTML is being downloaded into IE 10, but is not rendering. Might have something to do with the 'style="display:none"' whatchadojiggers in the <div> tags?

Me too! It sure is a boon when laying out a new hero design. The PHCP and wiki are fabulous player contributions.

A question. Is there a chance that a some point you might add places to list pieces of gear and their attributes? Just a place where we could type in the names of the pieces and list what the gear (w/ mods) does.

Also, have you ever thought of adding a "Notes" field where people could type things in they want to remember about their heroes for future planning. E.g. "Remember to retcon SSS as Con?"; that sort of thing.
