Legendary PvE'ers

nephtnepht Posts: 6,883 Arc User
The PvP lot has a thread about the best PvP'ers http://co-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=158731 .

Thought I'd post who I would like to have on my team during PvE no matter if we get on or not ^___^

In no real order.

Kenpo , Brou , Silverspar ,Snakewildlife , Shev (yes Shev the times I have been in alerts with shev we nailed NEM with 1.10 still on the clock ), The Last , Meredy Redleaf, Sgt Mahoff, Some guy called Offender , Flyingfinn ,Chat and Frank the bunneh \o/

Been in alerts with all these people one time or another and we all nailed it with over a min on the clock.

*edit* The list only contains people I have seen in action in PvE over a good few times . Many other players are epic for other reason :D

I will have to look them up! I might be new, but I always have questions ... if you and those listed wouldn't mind answering them.

I'd have to nominate my husband for a "legendary PvE" er. Not because of the relation, but he was kind enough to completely redo his character when my Archery AT was grabbing too much aggro for his Melee to handle. He switched to a Power Armor (?) AT and now we can duo pretty much everything ... except that one stupid Adventure with teh mind dudes ... *sigh*

Would love to read other people's nominees!

    Everyone with the [Teleiosaurus Pheromones]!

Bonus points for collecting the three best lair items: [Necrullitic Elixir], [Neuroelectric Pulse Generator], and [Psionic Accelerator].

Leo the Lion King of Lionland is the only character who has all four. <3

Haha, I don't belong in here. I die so much that my characters start off with Dead to the World!

If it wasn't for people like Tom Q, Falchoin, Dr. Sage and others I can't think of right now giving me build help, I'd still suck really bad. They're the real heroes here!

That says all about how much worth a thread like this is .. its just to praise some people
maybe to get more attention from them or whatever else.

Had a legendary alert 2 days ago all with "nameless" people .. Nemesis down in 12 seconds.

Let's not start a ruckus in this thread, okay?

I do well in alerts and in groups. I was making a joke, because when I play solo, I'm extremely reckless so I die a lot.

Kjj. Granted, I haven't teamed with him in like a year, and he probably had no idea it was me, but he's a freaking scientist. Maybe the best pve-er in game. Also: mahoff, bluhman, ashen (the few times I've had the privilege), Nanners, Falchion, Biff, and the last.

I am going to use my experience with the gravitar alert for picking my favorites, and I am disqualifying tank builds with devour essence by default .

The three characters that I noticed most, and that were doing more then their part every time I saw them, are Persiphony (I think I am writing this wrong), Wolf Fang and Silverspar.
I don't know their handles, they are not on my friends list and I never really talked to them.

Some of the people Ive seen in action that really blew my mind (in no particular order):

    Crosschan
    Vlad Dracul (spelling ?)
    Isometry
    Secksegai
    Falchoin
    Vixy

I may argue with her, and others may do the same, but Silverspar is one of the best tanks ive ever seen.

Ive only included people that Ive actually played with or seen play. There are many others whose capabilities I am positive would put them on this list if I had ever played with them (or against them...Vixy is on the list because of the many times she dropped me from first to second place in event open mission score boards).

It's all about the player, not the build. Well, the build helps, but I'd take a guy who knows what he's doing over a guy with a great build any day.

Cliques: They're not just for High School anymore.

Not sure that this has bearing on the current situation as the single most mentioned individual is far from a member of any clique that may or may not be present in this thread.

I'm not sure that saying, "I think Joe Montana is a legendary football player," makes one a member of any clique. Neither does, for example, my commentary on the skill level of players who are not on my friends list, and with whom I have played, at most, a handful of times over the course of the last three years.

What about Astrocat or Emiliea or Keiko some of the many other PvE legends that haven't been around/active as much lately? Seems like there should be a lot more people recognized than what I'm seeing so far and that's honestly a bit disappointing. Sometimes a really good character makes it look so easy you never realize what they're having to do to make that happen, most teammates never even notice outside their own little personal bubble of awareness.

Oh yeah, and ask Sgt. Mahoff about me sometime Nepht. (he only remembers me by my main, Alyssa Q'Uzixola)

If I had to name top 5 tanks (can pull & hold agro and survive it well) that I've witnessed in-action myself (alphabetical order):
    Captain New Jersey
    Jinx
    Silverspar
    Xadrek
    Xowarex

I know Jinx and Silverspar really don't get along, but they are both really good at tanking.
Xadrek is sort of a legendary tank (slayer of Mega D's) from Aussie Force Alpha, before he got into SWToR heavily.
Xowarex's Avalanche was the stuff of legends in PvE Elite combat with a full team, as in he'd agro ALL the rooms in Aftershock #5 and somehow not die even once. Little newbies like me at the time just ran around picking up glowing orbs.
Astrocat was the first one who showed me how to defeat Vikorin, and he did it when the team was wiped out, alone! (this is a feat I've later replicated myself one day, although it was harder when he did it because Vikorin was bugged; thus I don't consider myself his equal)
Brou punches stuff, and he's good at it; but frankly I've seen him and Captain New Jersey both quite a bit and ol' Capt. is an even more amazing might tank than Brou. And Brou is very good, so don't underestimate what I'm saying here. Capt. New Jersey was literally undefeated by any PvP or PvE battle I EVER saw him wage (and that's quite a bit), and HE PLAYED IN CHARACTER! Epic & funny! He was an epitome of RP, PvP, and PvE all rolled into one, and he never broke that hilarious Rocky-style character, not once. Believe me, I tried to get him to break character, he didn't. Sadly I have no idea what happened to him, he just stopped logging in and never came back, but he's a legend in my book.

As for me, I play like to play some sort of support on the team. Support via AoE DPS and/or Healing & Bubbles. I miss not being able to login as much, but well... duty calls.

What I admire most is a person that not only has skills and a strong build that performs well, but they do the best they can do, have high situational awareness, and help the team with extreme selfless effectiveness (often never having to say a word, their actions just speak for themselves). Many people play selfishly, it's rare to find a highly skilled & truly selfless team-focused player, and it's a lot of fun to play with them on a team.

Whether you are primarily tanking, healing, or dealing damage for the team, what matters is that you're doing your best for the team. It's truly amazing what a group of players can accomplish if they work as a single unit together.

Many of my fondest memories of this are running Elite content (primarily Aftershock) with a full team of good friends (typically all of us on Ventrilo together), or doing cosmic hunting (namely Grond). Sadly I've only got a few photos/screenshots to show for it. *sigh*

Most of the times, i have no idea with who i've been playing for but mostly it's ended in a glorious victory. I think that it's about my witty persona, the awesome costumes i'm wearing, the jokes i keep tellin while these epic battles happen. But mostly i just play with myself because we finns are gloomy and grim and don't like other people.

Honestly, not to downplay pve but I've gotten the impression than anyone that actually knows what they're doing is the exception and not the norm. It's almost as if anyone who plays well is legendary in comparison to the average player.

I mean, some of us, myself included have spent countless hours analyzing data and tweaking this or that so for said persons to stand out is no surprise. But what really impresses me these days are being in a random pug, not recognizing a single name on the list, and yet everyone takes cues from each other and works in harmony regardless of level.

Perhaps I'm just that jaded, but it's one thing to see a first-timer in grav wipe out in under 30 seconds. But when you've seen the same name make the same mistakes as if it was there first time out.... I mean, you don't have to spend weeks crunching numbers to learn from actual experience, at least you shouldn't.

Most of the people that impress me do so without fanfare, and its usually the bad players and leechers I'm far likely to remember. I can easily remember a "legendary" leecher that I hunt with reckless abandon anytime he/she appears in a hero game, but those solid players I see in alerts... I may not remember but respect nonetheless.

In skimming the thread, I however didn't see a mention of @ayona, someone who's impressed me time and again. Don't get me wrong, I've seen a lot of names mentioned that I'd agree upon as well, but I can't think of anyone else that commands that much respect from me. And to top it all off, ayona is sooo nonchalant about it all =)

Thank you sir. It's appreciated.

Look... I know I can come off as an hardass sometimes on the forums, because it's a written media. Service is something I do in real life and using science to help people and the world I live in is something that defines my character. Because of this, I'm a highly team oriented person.

Pro tip (well pro form when I used to play for money on a regular basis in PC shooter games):
Teamplay is comprised of individual skills, team communication skills, and team tactical skills. A part of team tactical skills requires situational awareness of other teammates; a part of individual skills requires situational awareness of hazards and enemy-created threats. Each part of these three parts is essential to making the team function effectively, they're all interconnected. If you're against an enemy team, identify their weakest part and exploit it, relentlessly.

A good way to train this is to have the team train together on a map with narrow zig-zagging ledges that you can easily fall of to your death. You still have to play and move quickly, but if one person isn't watching their step they fall and die and the rest of the team has be observant that they're a player short for a time and adjust.

Now Champions Online is nice because most of the time it's quiet casual. In fact RP is often the very essence of casual, arguably. But there are definite take-aways from competitive play that can allow you casual play to be that much less frustrating and more enjoyable.

One of those take-aways was what you quoted me as saying earlier and another one is the generic "pro tip" just offered above.

One player that always impressed me was a guy called Ahprodizzy. He would use silver ATs and would still get the job done never dieing ( huffs alot ) but a solid player that understood each of the ATs strengths and weaknesses.

That man is an unknown ( but very offensive ) legend \o/

Or a guy called Callmebro he would never be happy with his powers but would be the one guy you would want on a nemcom run ^__^

Some people seem to think I was meaning well known players ...no thats the not the point at all.

Its who do YOU think is legendary at PvE.

That saying I would rather have someone who is a massive laugh to play with. My whole buddy list is full of such legendary peeps ^__^

From all of those the only one I have seen in action is Silverspar as a tank, which was pretty good, at least mantaining aggro, so I recognize his/her status as legend.

Unfortunately, there are many wonderful players that don't play that much, belongs to a famous SG and/or are social players. For all those anonymous legends my recognition.

My picks: @Falchoin, he's influenced much of my Dream Star build. Together, we've pretty much ROFL Stomped through anything, and victory is assured just with us two like here. @Snakewildlife, awesome guy, same with Falchoin. we recently just took out Teliosaurus, though it not much of a feat. He's actually got my grinding, errr farming Psionic Accelerator....

    @Man.of.Light

Yay you're still around?! I was worried you were gone. I'm glad to see you're still around, I was worried you had left since I didn't see you at all in June or July. Yeah you're a personal legend to me for helping me learn a technique that indeed eventually (with enough hours and gold) let me get the Accelerated Aethyric Incancation device. Sorry for not mentioning you earlier... I know I'm forgetting people (partly because I can't look at my in-game friends list with this broken Core Connect thing)

I definitely remember having you and Falchoin on the same team, makes even hard content look easy (I think we might have even broke some time records for beating Shadow Destroyer).

Speaking of which, I passed on that farming tip you gave me to at least a dozen other people. So your generosity benefited a lot more people than you might realize.

I'm trying to remember who @Snakewildlife is atm... What's their main character?

There are a lot of other great PvE players I'm having trouble remembering... A few for the list: Cerebria (this build was ruined with the Ego Storm nerf though), RupchtVanDoom, XMTSX, MattyT, Vergilthefallen, etc etc...

I never quite can tell if Caliga is just joking around being in character or has a self-inflated ego that could fill a castle. I remember attending a Costume Contest he was hosting and all he did was talk down to everybody else there and about how great he was. If you have to proclaim you're so great, it just means you're wanting attention. Better to let actions speak for yourself. I will say though that he's got a great costume that is both memorable and unique.

Thanks! I'm flattered, though since my popularity isn't as big as some of the others mentioned, I haven't had much exposure to those outside of SECRET & Spectre. I often get compliments when I'm on the toons that I've posted guides for here on the forums: Wonder Star, Dream Star, and my fav, Gem Star.

Actually, looking through all the ppl who've posted, I've had some interaction with at one point or another. I've run a few DS runs with ashen, kinda helped agenx5 with Myst Flight Comp farming, and have apygoos on my friends list, but never see'm lol, and Nepht: I've chatted with her, but have never, ever seen in a pvp match of any kind =o

    @Man.of.Light

I can't tell you how many times I've been confused with man of light's toons over the course of this game since I've been here (I think its due to the 'star' portion in my name) But I have seen him in action and yes he is indeed somebody I would respectfully nod my head to in legendary status.
Also I'm gonna chime in @vixy,kane of chaos, straxus, darkonx, blademaster(I didn't forget ya), scarletstrike, kro, bling, sistersmash(good ole smashy),leo, sanguineviper, nesno, and eve.
I know there are more I wanna mention but since the forum change it has been made much more difficult for me to look up @handles so apologies.

Oh and a special nod to jaybezz for giving me the idea to create my own AOAC toon who I very much enjoy playing around with from time to time when I can. JB's *itching is legendary of its own right.

LOL a thread started by Nepht and the words serious dont match ( apart from the region ban ones -.- ) .

You want to call yourself a legend go ahead a good self image is always healthy \o/

Just wait till Caligula posts :D

    Ahem........."PPPPOOOOSSSTTTSSS!!!!"

In a more serious note. My picks would be: Sekimen and Falchoin

I chose Sekimen because he himself designed a build utilizing might and unleashed rage as it's core components, and at that time, it was an amazingly solid build. I never had the pleasure of teaming with him once, but I've seen him in action through Falchoin's youtube videos on PTS testing for new alerts, gravitar, etc etc.

I chose Falchoin because he is a very avid PTS tester and in my eyes, helped very much to shape alot of the number crunching and ways this game's mechanics regarding powers and content have developed. His feedback has always involved solid good ole quality data. Untop of that he is an amazing player with good humble values.

40's suck in Alerts. You've better using lvl 6, that way you surely stamp your epicness into retinas of your fellow players and earn the respect of your teammates.
