Help with a high tech urban street mage (gadgets/sorcery/hw)

benoitseanbenoitsean Posts: 322 Arc User
I just got the wizard's and witches and the urban street clothes costume sets in the zen store and wanted to create a modern-day mage type character that uses some stuff from gadgeteering and also heavy weapons so I can make use of the wizard staff weapons skin.

This is what I came up with:

(Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Hybrid)
v3.45:38

Super Stats
Level 6: Dexterity (Primary)
Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
Level 15: Recovery (Secondary)

Talents
Level 1: The Chiller (Dex: 10, Con: 10, Rec: 8, End: 10)
Level 6: Acrobat (Dex: 5, Con: 5)
Level 9: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 12: Impresario (Dex: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 15: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
Level 18: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)
Level 21: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)

Powers
Level 1: Electric Bolt
Level 1: Cleave (Rank 2, Rampant)
Level 6: Pulverizer
Level 8: Aura of Radiant Protection (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Bionic Shielding (Rank 2, Overloaded Circuits)
Level 14: Support Drones (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Reverence)
Level 20: Concentration
Level 23: Ball Lightning (Rank 2, Triplicity)
Level 26: Soul Vortex (Rank 2, Soul Drain)
Level 29: Resurgence
Level 32: Energy Wave (Hardened Particle Matrix)
Level 35: Energy Shield (Rank 2)
Level 38: Thundering Return
Adv. Points: 36/36

Travel Powers
Level 6: Phase Out (Rank 2)
Level 35: Electro Flight (Rank 2, Rank 3)

Specializations
Dexterity: Combat Training (3/3)
Dexterity: Power Swell (2/2)
Dexterity: Deadly Aim (3/3)
Dexterity: Expose Weakness (2/2)
Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
Warden: Slaughter (3/3)
Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
Warden: The Best Defense (2/3)
Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)
Mastery: Warden Mastery (1/1)

Devices

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Before making any suggestions, can you clarify what kind of role you are aiming to fill? You have a support passive (= low dps) but not presence (= low support/healing).

I was thinking just a hybrid role. Nothing specific. Maybe a little bit of dps with some passive support. I mainly just want the protection for me and my drones. I'll mainly be doing pve.

Well, the Hybrid aura w/o Pres will be very weak for any allies/pets, and won't be that welcome in higher-end content (and the drones can die pretty easily there too). AoRP will be good for your own defense, but you won't have great dps either. The build also lacks a decent single-target attack, and Concentration won't proc on Cleave (which I assume is your main filler attack here). Conc also scales w/ either Ego or Int, which aren't SS'd here. Also, I prob wouldn't get EWave if you aren't getting the Rev Polarity adv to group up mobs with, and its 3-pt Matrix adv is kinda weak for the investment.

I'd like to edit the build, but it could be pulled in many different directions. For now, I'll go w/ Med Nanites and Compassion, and also sticking in Annihilate for some better single-target dmg from HW:

    v3.45:38

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Presence (Primary)
    Level 10: Intelligence (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Witch (Con: 10, Int: 8, Pre: 10, Rec: 10)
Level 6: Lasting Impression (Pre: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 9: Negotiator (Int: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 12: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 15: Diplomatic (Int: 5, Pre: 5)
Level 18: Shrug It Off (Con: 5, Pre: 5)
Level 21: Healthy Mind (Con: 5, Int: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Eldritch Bolts
Level 1: Cleave (Rank 2, Rampant)
    Level 6: Compassion
Level 8: Medical Nanites (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 11: Conjuring
    Level 14: Will-o'-the-Wisp (Guide)
Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Reverence)
    Level 20: Annihilate (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Soul Vortex (Rank 2, Soul Drain)
Level 26: Energy Wave (Rank 2, Reverse Polarity)
Level 29: Support Drones (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 35: Energy Shield (Rank 2)
    Level 38: Thundering Return
    Adv. Points: 36/36

    Travel Powers
Level 6: Phase Out (Rank 2)
Level 35: Electro Flight (Rank 2)

    Specializations
    Presence: Repurpose (3/3)
    Presence: Selfless Ally (2/2)
    Presence: Moment of Glory (3/3)
    Presence: Force of Will (2/2)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (2/3)
    Warden: Slaughter (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Warden Mastery (1/1)

Keeps the Wisp up to roll Conjuring and Illum (and prob also roll Soul Vortex for Dependency and the healing rune). EWave and Cleave can help w/ AoE, while Annihilate is the main single-target attack. Sentinel spec (for its aura and healing boosts) could be considered, though this would lower your dps a bit more. An ally rez could also be considered, though you'd have to make room for it. Gears mostly for Pres, w/ some Int and Con.

Regardless, it may be better to just make it a dps build, or a dps-hybrid build using Invuln, and not lean as heavily on the support-related stuff.

    (edit: fix the build's Talents)

Lots of ways to do something like that. Here's how I'd do it. This is assuming you will be doing group content and want to support those around you. If you plan to just solo stuff I'd take a different approach.

Drones die a lot, so I subbed in Mini Mines with Stim Pack instead. If you imagine yourself fighting in melee most of the time you could take out SBG for some SB or DB power and use a tech sword (e.g. Eye of the Storm (Rank 2, Blade Beyond the Veil)), or some HW power and use the staff. I used Guard for the wizard staff look, but you could use any block you like. If you went with EotS and replaced Vampiric Sympathy and Reverance with R3s you could solo the QWE with a little practice.

Thanks to you both. I will test these out and see which one I like better.

I like your concept :) Here's a melee build option that focuses on Heavy Weapons for your wizard staff. I put in Pyromancer's Blades in place of Ball Lightning. You could easily swap that out for Attack Toys or Dust Devil depending on theme. Dust Devil can apply Disorient for some additional synergy with Cleave.

I forgot to mention that in my build, while Dex is PSS you'd be mostly stack Pre.

The build was assuming you'd still use Wardicator. I was just mentioning Sentinel as a potential alternative there (Sentry, Brawler, or Arbiter could also work, depending on your priorities).

Yea, I took your build and just forgot to edit its Talents at the time. Sorry about that. It's a pretty simple fix, though, and I've edited the build to update that.
